Southeastern train disruption (franchise to be taken over by Govt p191)

  • My train in to London was 20 minutes late - ie 50% late on a 40 min journey. No reason given, no apology, but I did see something at Waterloo East about a signalling problem. A mate on the Dartford line had the same problem. So I assume the work over the past 2 weeks hasn't really helped remedy the ongoing problems of the past 40 years and has knocked out all SE Trains communications facilities. Loved the comparison with hatred of SE Trains and ISIS.

Back in the bleakness of South East London and Kent, night always follows day and South Eastern being an absolute disgrace on my morning journey to work always follows night.

Checked National Rail before I left home and could see that everything was running between 3 and 20 minutes late for no apparent reason. Made a beeline for the 8.17 from St Johns, which was running a mere 2 minutes late. At 8.21 it still hadn't arrived. South Eastern played a recorded message advising that the 8.17 service was "being delayed". This was really useful, as I would otherwise have presumed that the world had stopped turning at 8.18.

I boarded the late-running 8.21 at 8.25 and arrived at Cannon Street 5 minutes later than I should have done. Not a crisis by any means, but for the amount of money these wankers are stealing off us, I thought some form of explanation might have been forthcoming.

Am now keeping a diary of my travelling experiences with ISIS' only genuine challenger for the position of "Most Loathsome Organisation" on the planet. I plan to post copies of it to the South Eastern CEO and Chris Grayling, Minister for Transport later in the year, accompanied by a shoebox containing a sample of my own personal detritus and a list of my favourite profanities.

Brilliant. Please publish this daily :-)

They're really awful Berkshires. Literally have not had a day commuting since start of November without a delay on either the incoming or homeward journey.

20 minutes late to charing Cross this morning not a sausage of an apology.

Missus doesn't commute anymore and none of my colleagues have the misfortune of being subject to southeastern so I can't rant to anyone about it without getting faux sympathetic patronising nods mixed with a sense of "he's probably exaggerating...just humour him" in their expressions.

This thread is my daily safe space.
  • My train was 4 minutes early, yet again, this morning. Ashford / Charing Cross
It thought I would try and bring some balance to this thread.

Come on here gloating again and you'll get a flag! ;)

To be fair you probably deserve some sympathy as to get there 4 mins early it would have probably had to have left half an hour early. In which case you missed your train and are still in Ashford banging your head against a wall.
  • I've e-mailed Southeastern asking for an explanation for the reduced seating capacity on my trains. Don't expect any sort of sensible reply but it's mildly cathartic just to send the complaint in.
  • They'll say the reduced seating capacity is because they have taken out some seats.

@MrLargo I'm not sure of your age, but if you can hang on until you're 60 the NHS send you a nice little kit with which to gather this detritus and even an envelope to post it with. Could be useful to send to the MoT.

37 years old mate. As frugal/miserly as I am, I'm not willing to delay my act of retribution by 23 years just to save on postage!
I'll send you mine it it would help.

Including my own, extremely fragrant excrement....

I presumed your sample had already been sent First Class to Sheffield!
  • Can’t believe it. Tonight the train I’m on has managed to get to Lewisham without stopping for no reason once.

I don’t know how to process the feeling, unbelievable.

Might want to hold it... the toilets are probably out of order!!

I imagine you more than lose those 4 minutes travelling all the way to Ashford station from Keston each morning be fair. :-)
Both of you, as Charlton supporters, should know how train lines are listed. I named the Ashford to Charing Cross line/train. It doesn’t mean I travel from Ashford. I get on at Orpington 25 minutes off at Charing Cross. It does have its downside, I more often than not have to share a table with at least one other person.
I know I run the risk of a flag on this thread being so positive so just letting you all know my train arrived at Orpington tonight at 17:17 and it should have been there at 17:16, it’s not all beer and skittles on my line.

There is no place for positivity on this thread. If you want to publish pro-South Eastern Trains propaganda then I suggest you start a separate thread. In fact, you could do a combined thread - "Great Journeys with South Eastern", "My Favourite Things About Katrien Meire", "Memories of Palace and Millwall's Greatest Trophy Victories" and "Likeable things about Alan Pardew".

Call it "Tossers United" or "The Tumbleweed Thread" or something like that
Point taken, it won’t happen again. As you can see above, my train home was late. I feel my fellow commuters pain.

All joking aside Fanny I never assumed the kits were sent to women. I thought the big bowl cancer push was aimed at men.

    Not at all, Mike.

The colon /bowel cancer early diagnosis kit is there for both sexes.
  • I’d just like to congratulate Southeastern for having reduced services down the Woolwich line during the engineering works by a) fewer services per hour into London b ) fewer carriages c) limiting to Cannon Street only and stopping servicing Waterloo and Charing Cross

But even more I congratulate them on then not even commenting on why, now the engine seeing works at London Bridge are completed, they continue to run this lower grade service despite the significant upgrades to the track layout around London Bridge.

    Fuckers.
  • Been trying to work out why my trains have been even more busy than usual since christmas. I think it must be something to do with the opening of London bridge. I can only assume it means they are running less of some services from Gillingham/Chatham into some London stations so everyone is getting my train to Victoria.
  • Very happy that they have changed the train I normally get from mostly seated carriages to mostly standing carriages.

Makes for a much more pleasant journey in.

9am next Monday morning, South Eastern's Head Office on Blackfriars Road. I'll supply the Viagra, you know what to do.
I got some new trainers for Christmas. I'll see if I've still got the shoebox.

As well as the delays, can you find room to comment on the bad habits of commuters...constant coughing, picking noses, booming voices on mobiles, snoring, general smells, hot food smells, bikes, rucksacks, massive suitcases etc.

Focus on the Sidcup line if you can.
  • Has anyone ever noticed that virtually nobody ever uses the toilet on the commute in to London?

When I used to commute from New Eltham I was waiting for the day when somebody came out of the bog and declared a ten minutes warning.

There is a lady on my (Thameslink) train, that talks on her mobile and puts her make-up on at the same time, a poison double.

Also, this train is delayed everyday by late running southeastern services that are given priority. Mind blowing.
