Resurrecting an old thread here. I've just finished Boadwalk Empire (amazing!), and about to start something new. I've already seen the like of the Wire, Breaking Bad, Homeland, GoT, Sopranos, True Detective, Band of Brothers, Luther, Prison Break etc.
Thinking of starting one of the following, none of which I have seen any of:
Mad Men Entourage Dexter
Any recommendations as to which one I should go for next?
if you enjoyed boardwalk, the wire and the sopranos then mad men is definitely for you. Dexter i couldnt get through season one the writing was so shite. Entourage i've only ever seen the odd episode and it's alright. But mad men is one of those that might squeeze into your top 5
In order 1) The Sweeney - Writing and acting superb and the relationships between Regan, Carter and Haskins are brilliant. 2) Auf Wiedersehen Pet - The best bunch of characters ever assembled, and the best ending line of dialogue. 3) Inspector Morse - Simply oozed class, the cream of British acting appeared. 4) Minder - Arthur Daley, no more need be said. 5) Howards Way - Corny and far fetched but wonderful 80's escapism on a Sunday night.
The Soprano's Band of Brothers Broadchurch - but only the first series the second was pants Homeland - First two series after that it got silly Tinker Tailor soldier spy
Special mention to The Sweeney, Spooks, Auf Wiedersehn Pet, Happy Valley, Prime suspect, Clocking off and The Street
The Blacklist is excellent tv & is definitely recommended.
I've watched all of them so far and I find some of the characters annoying beyond belief. It was good that the boyfriend of computer geek got snuffed out, irritating or what. I hope a few of them get written out the same way. Namely the head of department and moody lead man. I cant see how they can make 27 episodes of this, first one I thought was quite idea but its beginning to get a little samey and predictable now.
Series 2 of happy valley coming soon Can't wait hope it's as good as the 1st Silent witness Morse Waking the dead (and he was good in shoestring) Trial and retribution Frost And the inbetweeners

Kind of agree. I wanted to find out the relationship between Lizzy and the lead man (forgot his name). After about 20 episodes still none the wiser so gave up. Enjoyed the twists and writing tho.
1. Breaking bad 2. Buffy the vampire slayer 3. Jonthan Creek (earlier ones) 4. Criminal minds 5. Lie to me
I have not seen GOT, or True Detective which I guess would rank highly.
No comedies allowed etc.
You know the kind.
On a nostalgic theme - some personal favourites
1. A Family at War - following the Ashton family through WW2. Made in 1970s only ITV programme approved by my Dad! 2. Taggart - best ever UK detective series with great theme tune. 3. Homicide: Life on the Street - 1990s Baltimore cop series 4. St Elsewhere - 1980s Life in Boston teaching hospital -forerunner to ER 5. Thirty Something - 1980s Philadelphia baby boomers
"Buffy Game of Thrones Being Human (UK) Misfits Sherlock
Honourable mentions to Orphan Black The Returned That 'partially dead' series on BBC 3 at the mo."
I can't remember what the 'partially dead' series was so that couldn't have been that great.
I'd revise two of my top five. GoT I thought went off the boil in season 3, as did Orphan Black in season 2, and the last Sherlock was too clever for its own good. So, a new top five
Buffy Being Human (UK) Misfits The Sweeney Hill Street Blues
Of what's on at the moment, I'm liking iZombie and Daredevil but neither will get in to my top five.
