This has to be welcomed by all but the terminally sceptical.
More due in as well. Finally after the shite of the last couple of cash starved years under Tweedledumb and Tweedledumber, something to be well pleased about.1 -

Whether it's CoG or another, let's trust we get our big man up front, good in the air with decent holdup play.

Quite amazed you can't see positivity in my post - saying we need a few more players which you accept is a lot - I would say it is less now that we have signed Morro up - If it is done all well and good! But it isn't done until it is done!thenewbie said:
So everything that has happened so far and still no positivity? Not denying that work yet to be done, a lot of it in fact, but frankly this seems a case of moving goal posts (metaphorically). We've signed a highly rated young striker, a decent enough prospect from Arsenal and a proven midfielder in his prime, our best centreback seems set to commit to the future, but because Poyet hasn't signed yet, it's not positive?MuttleyCAFC said:Work to be done still - the squad needs strengthening - we should start getting positive when that has happened - this is a sign it might, but let's see it. Poyet signing is probably my tipping point to positivity. You can then look at arguably the two best full backs in the league and two future internationals in midfield in Cousins and Poyet and a 3 million Euro striker with loads of pace - which I think is a big thing at our level. a few more of the right quality in and what was weak starts to look very strong.
We are looking much stronger already than we did last week. There is a long way to go yet but 2 or 3 more signings of the calibre of Buyens/Vetokele and frankly I am expecting midtable as a minimum.0 -
I can't see any positivity in what you posted. You specifically said when 'the squad needs strengthening... we should start getting positive WHEN THAT HAS HAPPENED [my emphasis]. Also to quote, 'this is a sign it might' - but by implication, it has not yet. What I am saying is, this is just not true. The squad is to my eyes already and indisputably stronger today than it was last Friday. I agree it needs strengthening further - but let's not whitewash the work already been done. Poyet staying or going is secondary - it won't make or break our whole season, simply alter how we progress forward.MuttleyCAFC said:

Oh alright then 2.

I reckon Davo55 has it pretty much spot on, what about Ansah, is he a wide player?0
-
I noted the potential saying we had the two best full backs in the league, Morro, Cousins a 3 million euro striker etc.... I was illustrating the potential that could be built on. But it still needs to be as you acknowledged!!!!!!! Unbelievable!

That is entirely my point. To hell with the potential, can't we acknowledge that this is already an improvement? You very clearly specifically said you wanted more before you would switch from negative to positive, I am asking why? Serious question. If Poyet doesn't re-sign but we spend 2-3million apiece on another couple of players, would that be good enough for you?MuttleyCAFC said:I noted the potential saying we had the two best full backs in the league, Morro, Cousins a 3 million euro striker etc.... Because I can see where we are short and want to see it addressed- there is time but it may not be addressed. I looked at the January transfer window where our business was terrible - I need to see good business to change my fears. At least I am in a position where I change with the evidence though - rather than negative for the sake of it or dare I say positive before the evidence arrives!0

Exciting times ahead, genuinely exciting prospect. I don't think a lower premiership team would be too disappointed if they signed Vetokele and Buyens1

You're wasting your breath. Remember this is a poster who crticised the £150.00 season tickets, claiming they were too cheap.thenewbie said:

I am excited about what Vetokele may bring to us - but I do need to ask following that statement - have you seen him or Buyens play? We have to wait and see but I base my excitement on the amount of money we have paid. We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves - the next 3 or 4 signings may define our season. And one of those would be a re-signing.0
-
Hmmm slow down. Agree with Mutley. Let's see how they perform in Charlton shirts. But it is positive that we're spending money - and on players the manager has worked with.nichorob said:Exciting times ahead, genuinely exciting prospect. No I have not seen either of them play. I had not seen many of Powell's signings play either - all I knew of Kermorgant was THAT miss. Dervite, Morrison, Wiggins all of them I knew by reputation at most. I am not basing my hopes on fees, we spent stupid money on shit players before - under many managers and owners. But these are highly rated almost universally by people who HAVE seen them play. That's good enough for me, until I have seen them. I really don't see why the next 3 or 4 s ignings should be any more definitive than the last 4 (Buyens, Ansah, Vetokele, Morrison renewal). All I care about is the team at the start of the playing season, and on current evidence, that will be a stronger, better team than last seasons.MuttleyCAFC said:I am excited about what Vetokele may bring to us - but I do need to ask following that statement - have you seen him or Buyens play? I knew a bit about Kermogant and a lot about Wiggins before we signed him. But that means nothing - I don't think it is stronger yet - It has the potential to be stronger - we have some positions to fill and I hope we do so well!0

Then we'll just have to agree to disagree, because you seem pretty sensible and nice and I have no intention of starting some sort of feud. We can be stronger, yes. But I still maintain, we have improved already. Thanks for the discussion, and for the lack of name calling and childish abuse - genuinely. But I am bowing out of this one here.MuttleyCAFC said:I knew a bit about Kermogant and a lot about Wiggins before we signed him. Same could apply if we signed Suarez, Ronaldo and Messi. The two players mentioned are proven and well respected in the top tier Danish and Belgian leagues and in Europe as well, if we can't get excited about that then what's the point!Valley11 said:

I would be more excited if we signed Ronaldo and Messi - would rather we passed on Suarez - but not for football reasons! But we would all have a greater idea what they would do for us - If we signed those three - we would win the league!0
-
They could be terrible in Charlton shirts though!0

Ansah according to Arsenal hasn't progressed has hoped - possibly due to injury issues. Now, that doesn't mean he won't be great for us - but it could also be an educated punt on the clubs part!0
-
I actually think we could have got an absolute steal in Zak Ansah. He's gone a little under the radar, with the news of Yoni & Igor, but that takes all the pressure away from him.0
-
As he was originally one of us, and his dad is a fan of ours, lets hope he makes it, like we would if had come through our youth team.2

Waiting for seriously_red to come on here slagging off RD for setting a precedent and breaking FPP...
