Nego looked the best passer in a Charlton shirt. Phillips did well in goal and Gomez looked the part. Generally there was a lot of long ball and not a lot of guile. Looks like a lot of players struggled with the artificial pitch. Doesn't matter...it was just a training game.

Joe Gomez looks class. Nego needs to work on his passing but intercepts well and adds something when attacking.

So who actually won the Stayen Cup?

Or is the answer in the name - all teams Stayen in the cup, and nobody gets knocked out?

Nego done very well when he came on but we weren't allowed to form an opinion on his 45 minutes yesterday so I'll keep quiet :-o

Like the look of little munns. Gomez didn't look out of place one bit and I'm looking forward to seeing the moose next season.

No goals in a training game and people say never mind? If you can't do it in training it's unlikely you'll do it in a competitive game.
  • I hope we give Bikey a deal, looked decent enough.

Bloody hell, that was unwatchable. Hopefully did the players' fitness good

It was better than yesterday, but St Truiden were worse than Standard de Liege. For me it was our home grown ones who were particularly good, Fox, Phillips and Gomez in particular.
A fitter squad on a grass pitch may be better, we need to add about 80% to what we have seen so far.
I liked Bikey but he showed flashes of unnecessary poor temperament in the first half so I have my doubts. Cyska was an eager beaver, and if Nego can learn to make a quick decision to deliver a good out ball he may even turn out to be decent.
We were not that impressive up front though, it may have been lack of service. PP did not look to have progressed very much since last season.
Our number one priority is a senior/additional goalkeeper. Not because there is much wrong with Phillips and Pope, but I don't see them carrying us through the season.
My worry is naivety about the opposition we will face in the Championship. They are going to be tough and merciless. In the very brief flashes I have seen of Yoni he does not look in any way talismanic and unless he has more to offer he will not be the answer to withstanding the players we will be facing.
OK, I know we have to sort ourselves out first, but once done we also need to be very aware of the dangers of opponents.

Seth, first we have to have a full pre-season - both our Belgian opponents have been training for 3 weeks already, as their season starts 2 weeks before ours. Of course, we're going to look sluggish and not up to speed by comparison.

Secondly, these 2 games have just been a squad run out for fitness purposes. It's just an exercise.
It's nowhere near a first XI picked for a League fixture.

Finally, the manager has said he is expecting to sign at least another 3 or 4 player shortly.
IMO we should let him get his signings on board and playing within a first team squad before we cast judgement.

According to some on here we might as well give up now and let the other 23 teams fight it out for the two remaining relegation spots.

Personally I'd rather use these games to get fit, try out a few different formations and see which players fit with what Bob P is trying to do.

The proof of the pudding will be how we do when the proper games start.

Pre-season is just a way to get ready for the real thing.

    Just my opinion.

Gutted I only caught the last 30 mins, got times mixed up. I think people are being a bit harsh, end of the day it's practice. There could potentially be others watching that aren't Charlton so I expect us to be holding back a bit and not revealing too much.

Nego seemed decent, good back up RB in my eyes. Only saw a bit of Bikey but he seemed ok, played a bad pass but that's the only negative I saw. Buyens didn't really notice much. Gomez looked very promising, seems like a confident kid that reads the game well for his age, think he'd make a good back up until he gets a bit more experience.

Did I miss anything important in the first 60 mins? Barely got to see Vetokele how did he get on?

I agree with all of this, and I am not really casting judgement (am I?) so much as responding to what I have seen. It is about five weeks until the start of the season and I am hoping to see big strides beyond what we have seen this weekend.

  • I can't believe people are seriously getting worried and fearing the worst after a 0-0 friendly draw in our first 90 minute game of pre season and played on a 3G pitch

Oh I can, I know it's hard for all the doomsters and gloomsters but altogether now 'always look on the bright side of life'.
