surprised by the amount of people who think the Championship is any good as a league, for all the hussle and bussle the quality in the league is pretty low
Does anyone here even remember last summer? Oh yeh, I know what you did last summer. You waited. And you waited. And you waited some more. And NOTHING HAPPENED.
Oh yeh and then just when you thought it was over we signed Church and Sordell, as you were saying nothing happened :-0
It's all a load of uncertainty right now but feels better than 12 months back. If you want certainty and success in football then the only way is to support big four/six or whatever. We're on a journey back to the Premier league which is more than many fans can say. As posted before I think 2015-16 looking good given the Massive restructuring of the squad this last six months. Some players will work out and others will go out on loan.
You were doing fine, sr, until you decided to mention the Massive....

Just testing to see if @operationpig was reading. He wanted to bet a tenner but seems to have gone all shy after our second week of signing players
I would never have put you as a child of the early 70's, amazing what can be done with photoshopping these days :-)
I'm a child of the early 70s, (42 in December) does that really make you middle-aged? If so, forget worrying about the state of second tier Romanian football, I'm more concerned about how long my hips have got left :-(
@AddickUpNorth No not on reflection mate, according to the definition it is 45 to 65. I am happy to be though for a little bit longer :-)

Made my day that, and I am fairly young for my age so I'm told.. woke up 43 and middle aged, now feel 33 and young, CL better than Gok Wan!

Damn !
Don't you want me to be happy then @FannyFanackapan anyway age is only a number, you're as old as you feel and you don't look a day over ..............think I'd better stop there before I get into trouble :-)
It is funny that some see English football in the second division far superior to all other countries
The only thing that is better is the support it receives in its lower tiers that is all
the championship is devoid of quality full of overpriced and shit old English or uk players with loads of overrated European players normally on loan from premier shit clubs who bought them to stop others doing so
There are scatterings of quality youth players that come through the ranks and leave before they should
The signing of George T is pretty logical and low cost move by RD, particularly when confronted by the high transfer fee and wage demands that usually go hand-in-hand with seasoned Championship strikers. The fact that George is clearly surplus to requirements at Standard Liege doesn't mean that he won't do a decent - or even more than decent - job for us. If it doesn't work out, he can, as others have commented, probably just move elsewhere within the network.
I hope that he can settle quickly in England and adapt to life in the Championship because we know that, understandably, not all players find it easy to do so. Leaving aside our own experience earlier this year, look at Bournemouth, who paid Malmo a club record £2.5 million for the South African international striker, Tokelo Rantie last summer. In the event, he was not a regular starter last season and went on to contribute only 3 goals to the cause.
Whilst we have strengthened in other offensive positions, with the acquisitions of Franck Moussa and Johann Berg Gudmundsson, it is important that George makes an impact, or I fear that a disproportionately heavy goalscoring burden will fall on Igor Vitokele, who is himself looking to settle into the English game. Although we are all hoping for much better this season from Reza following his World Cup performances, our other strikers are either not up to it or still at the development stage. It may be, of course, that RD will, in consultation with Bob Peeters, see how we fare over the next 5 or 6 weeks and, if necessary, make a move for someone more proven at Championship level. I hope that this type of contingency plan is in place (always assuming that no one else is already lined up) because think it is likely to prove necessary results-wise if our new players take some time to bed into the English game.
I'd like to put on record my thanks to all the Belgians who give positive vibes and opinions about our new signings , your input is gratefully received and i totally agree with your opinions
and now for those johnny foreigners who think they can say that someone we sign might not quite be up to scratch, you can do one , i'll wait to see what they do with my own eyes and form my own opinions thank you very much
In Jan I stuck up for RD saying that his transfer policy looked on the face of it "a good one" - it obviously wasn't
* Thuram was a highly rated 'nearly' french international - NO HE WAS A SHIT LIEGE CASTOFF * Reza a nippy finisher - SEE ABOVE - 1 IN 17 WAS IT? MAYBE HE'LL COME GOOD HE LOOKED OK AT WC * AA a highly rated youngster/not realised potential - THE ONLY (60MIN) SUCCESS * PP the new (700k!!!!) kerm - LOL * Nego - LOOKS OK/NIGHTMARISH ONE MINUTE TO THE NEXT
Now this window seems rather similar in principle.....
*Buyens - LOOKS OK - BETTER THAN POYET? HMMM *Vetekole - £2.4M - BIG BUY, GOD I HOPE HE IS THE NEXT DARREN BENT *TBH - LIEGE CASTOFF *George Tucudean - LIEGE CASTOFF *Bikey - LOOKS OK - BETTER THAN DERVITE? HMMM *Moussa - LOOKS GOOD *Icelandic Geez - AGAIN LOOKS GOOD BUT WE SAID THAT ABOUT PP/AA/REZA BLAH BLAH BLAH
I don't think it's worth getting too excited just yet
I'm not 100% convinced Roland has got to grips with the quality of the championship, the signings may have cost more but on the face of it look rather similar to january. We shall see how it all fits together
Ungrateful. Just remember where we were this time last year.
Ungrateful or objective?
Roland has done a MAGNIFICENT job on the valley, for that I am grateful.
The new lads may be incredible and they also may not. None of us really know anything about them bar a bit of youtube.
Another interesting signing. We won't know for sure for around eighteen months, but my guess is that the wage bill this season will be somewhat less than it was in the first season in the Championship, perhaps materially so. It may even be lower than last season. On an accounting basis (the FFP measure) Duchatelet is almost certainly net positive on transfers too. That's the context against which to judge the signings made and the team's results.
If we are comfortable in the Championship next season, i.e. aren't in danger of going down for most of it, then it will have been an impressive achievement, especially given that we can then expect to improve as our predominantly young squad continues to develop.
I doubt Riga would have been as active in the market for players as Peeters has been - he's not as current and connected and that may be part of the problem at Blackpool (only a part).
The key, of course, is whether Peeters can pick a player and whether he can then blend them into an effective unit. Right now we simply don't know the answer to that question and nor will we until at least 5 -10 games in. What I think we do know though is that had we continued to try to build a squad of "proven" Championship players within the wage budget allocated we'd have been sunk. Given that, the approach being followed is a very attractive one. Let's just hope Peeters knows what he's doing. My intuition is that he does. If this works Duchatelet will have played an absolute blinder.

Welcome George, do what the likes of former unknowns (to me), like Andy Hunt and Kermogant have done - come in and achieved legend status for their commitment and eye for goal. Good luck fella!

how do you calculate he is net positive?
The fees received for Kermorgant, Smith and Stephens along with the non contingent (on appearances etc., sell on) for Poyet will all go directly through the P&L. On the other hand, the fees paid for Parzyszek, Reza and Vetokole will be amortised over the terms of their respective contracts.

I think the standard of the signing we have so far 7 yes that SEVEN reflects that RD also thought the standard of the Championship was shit--- its not great but better than Standard Lieges 2/3 stream.

cant see what people are moaning about.
Just out of interest how many of our signings are English?

Cor the days of Walsh,Nelson,Humphrey,Grant,Leaburn,Robson,Salmon seem like an eternity ago. Will we ever sign an English man again?
Wish we had a striker like Andy Hunt playing up front for us.
