Yep I think we need to go back to Taylor at 3 and Bopara at six, with the option of switching 3-7 around in the order if things are going well. We need to be flexible in our ODI approach.
Ali, Bell, Taylor, Root, Morgan, Bopara, Buttler as our top seven gives us a better chance of making decent totals than what we currently have IMO.
It could easily be Ali, Bell, Morgan, Root, Buttler, Taylor, Bopara in situations like we had last night.
Of course that gives us seven bowling options again and could take the pressure off some of our more underperforming seamers (Broad, I'm looking at you).
I'd also be looking at last chance saloon against Sri Lanka with Bell and Broad as Hales and Jordan/Tredwell (depending on conditions) wait in the wings.
Hales for Bell and Bopara for Balance and anyone with four limbs for Morgan.
Disagree in dropping Bell for Hales. Hales' form has been rather poor this winter - hardly set the Big Bash alive did he? Also, was poor in the warm-up matches.

If you applied that logic then we wouldn't have a team. Hales has been probably the best English opening bat in One Day cricket over the past few seasons, deserves a longer run.

I wouldn't drop Bell but would include Hales for Ballance.
I would open with Hales and Bell. Whoever comes in next would depend on who departed first. Ali for Hales and Taylor for Bell. Then Morgan or Buttler for Hales/Ali and Root for Bell/Taylor.
That way we always have one big hitter in with the other batsman's job to punish the bad ball but, at the very minimum, to rotate the strike.
Once we get to the last 10-15 overs and assuming we are no more than say three or four down, we should then be in a good position to take advantage of the batting power play.

I like that a lot!! The stubborn bigwigs at the ECB would never agree to such a novel, attack minded, 21st century approach though!
At 0-1 Zimbabwe probably thought they had a chance. Only issue became how to separate Gayle and Smith which, unfortunately, they didn't do 'til the very last ball of the innings.
Total world record one day partnership of 372. Gayle 215 (147) - equaled record number of 16 maximums and third highest individual score ever - and Samuels, by comparison, a pedestrian 133* (156).

Smith only lasted 2 balls.
Indeed he did, my mistake. But I did later say Samuels got 133*.
Joyce has just been "bowled" by the medium pacer Javed. "Bowled" in the sense that the ball hits the stumps, the bail is dislodged and lights up but then falls back into its slot.
The big difference between the likes of U A E and say the Irish is the fielding.
It isn't just the basics such as dropped catches but more that there is no intensity about their fielding. By that I mean sloppy ground fielding, not attacking and running around the ball, poor throwing etc etc.
That's probably cost them 20-30 runs in this game and is enough to be the difference in the result because there probably hasn't been match between the two sides batting and bowling.
think back to a couple of hours ago, the umpire took a run away from Ireland because someone(I think it was Joyce) ran a bit to short, I wonder if that will come back to haunt them

Our tail is to long with Broad who is certainly no longer an all rounder.
And Treadwell for Balance.

(& were 165-1 after 35 overs...)
Thing is, nobody in our team can do that
Shaiman Anwar became the first U A E player to score a ton in the WC and in the process hit their second ever highest score - 106 off 83.
Could end up being a decent game.
ball hit the stump, lights went off, the bail jumped up but stayed on the stumps so Joyce remains

Luck of the Irish.

36 off 32 required.
Just 23 off 24 required.
259-7 needing 20 off 18.
12 off 15 with both batsmen on 0 and just two wickets in hand.
Maybe not
