Ha, cheers mate. Just when I think I'm too pissed to be posting late at night a pal rocks up the ante!

I'll never be embarrassed to be Charlton. Be I'm finding it a hell of a lot harder to relate to other than a bond and friendship with fellow fans.
  • Sorry mate, I'll never be embarrassed to be a Charlton fan, but, this is the least proud to be a Charlton fan period I can ever recall, been going since 70's

Never be embarrassed to be Charlton playmates. Just happens that 90% of the time we are what it says on the tin... Shit.

Life sucks. Made even better today by Chelsea not winning. I was on £345.25p for a £1 stake on my Premiership accie.

So all round a stonking Saturday of football and me sitting here feeling like I've been mugged and then received a bill for it!
  • Nah,never embarrassed,we are mostly shit and I accept that. I get the piss ripped out of me by the blokes at work for supporting Charlton but I'd be more embarrassed if,like most of them,I 'supported' Liverpool,Man Utd,Chelski etc from the comfort of my armchair and took the piss out if people who pay their money to go see their team.

Exactly mate. Good or bad on the pitch you should never be embarrassed to be charlton, the reason? Because no one really notices you.

I'd be more embarrassed by your prem years when you bussed in pikey gillingham fans from Medway. "Come and watch Christian Ronaldo okay at the Valley". Talk about selling your soul.

Embarrassed? No, slightly disenfranchised though, as well as angry and hurting about the destruction of the club. RD's Charlton are like a thin tower thrown up quickly with thought of foundations. He needs a new architect or it will soon all come tumbling down.

@colin1961 I don't know whether to admire you, laugh at you or pity you. Whatever occurs you defend the regime, I suppose you think RD has to deliver at some point, well he has he appointed Riga (then looked elsewhere for a manager). You keep saying about new signings etc, but unless I have heard of them and know their merit, I doubt they will lift the club's and my current malaise.

7.49am on a Sunday and you are up posting on a rival fans forum! Go on 'Millwall Fan' give in to that urge. Is the pain becoming almost unbearable now? Is it really tugging at your conscience to the extent that you 'need' to read Charlton Life first thing on a Sunday morning? It's nothing to be ashamed of, just let go and let your heart rule your head. Politicians defect all the time, but you could keep it a secret from your mates. Is it your love of the colour red or the chirpy tune of 'red red robin'? Maybe it's because deep down you have a guilty pleasure that is finally defeating you but you just can't bring yourself to accept reality. Don't be afraid my friend, it's natural to want to better yourself. It's just whether or not you have the inner strength and courage to embrace what you really want.

Good heavens no, why should I be embarrassed just because some Belgian megalomaniac is ripping the heart and sole out of the club I have supported for 55 years. I'm just a victim of circumstance right now. Maybe it's because I'm too long in the tooth with everything I have experienced 'Charlton wise' down the years but I have been an Addick since I was knee high to a grasshopper thanks to my father and will be until I die.

Owners, managers and players all come and go, the club is the only constant. There have always been far more lows than highs, it goes with the territory and this is another dip in the curve of fortune but I'm still proud of where I have come from and always will be. There'll never be any hesitation from me when asked 'so who do you support then' to answer 'I'm a Charlton boy'! COYRs.
  • Been called a trainspotter too many times over the years to be embarrassed to support Charlton.

Am always PROUD to support Charlton.

Perhaps all of us who have bought the postcards for the Valley Party should send RD the one that says, "Remember when you were proud to come from Charlton" and see if he gets the message.

Its funny that Millwall have collectively the biggest bunch of thick supporters in the division and we have collectively the biggest bunch of clowns , nerds what ever you want to call yourselves.
Example: To slaughter Lepoint and make up your mind after 20 mins is absurd.
To sing you dont know what your doing after 2 games in charge is just as absurd.
Yes at times i am embarrassed of our so called fans.

I travelled up to London last night feeling sick as a pig the way things are going, especially the late equaliser. Then something came along that put a smile on my face. I started to see the positives and felt much better. I remember Alan Clarke taking Leeds players down a mine to demonstrate how lucky they were to be professional footballers.
What did I see? Well, the train passed a rusting monstrosity called the New Den. I started to think about Millwall. Their ground, their history, their fans and their league position. Suddenly the world didn't seem quite as bad after all. So, if your feeling depressed think of life as a Lions fan. Exactly.

Annoyed, frustrated, even angry sometimes but embarrassed?

    Never.
  • Negativity is so contagious, especially in forums.

I can only speak for myself but I've been on this roller coaster since 1967... more lows than highs and I share the same pain as expressed on here BUT, for god's sake let's give the new manager and the players a chance and please let's not go into self-destruct mode, i.e. booing your own team.

I've always been proud to be a Charlton supporter despite everything... it's part of my identity. You be embarrassed if that's what gets you through; I'l remain proud till the end.

  • Embarrassed? No. Having been a supporter for over 50 years, there have been some poor teams that have run out to "The Red Red Robin" - just like most other clubs have had bad phases.

My concern at the moment is that something 'feels' wrong. The team that won the League 1 title were a bit special - and, arguably spoilt us. I remember the fans chanting "We've got our Charlton back" when promotion was clinched. Little did we know what lay ahead. I don't think that team was particularly fantastic in terms of ability and I would concede that we were probably lucky to win the title so clearly and with 101 points. However, it was a team and manager who wanted to win and work together and, consequently, often picked up results when there was nothing in it.

That team has been deliberately dismantled for whatever reason. Maybe, Kermorgant was asking for too much money. Maybe, Morrison isn't as good as Bikey. Maybe, Stephens had days when he disappeared. Yes, I get too that Jackson is a few years older and past his best too. The thing is - and, here's the rub- that that team did its best 99% of the time. It's why we came 9th after promotion. Again, you could argue that 9th flattered us, but you can't argue with the fact that we did indeed end up 9th.

I don't feel that the current bunch are doing their best 99% of the time - frankly, I wouldn't want to put a figure on how often they are doing their best. Whether that's the fault of the owner, the squad, the manager or the fans, you can argue all day (and we do!) but something 'feels' wrong, which is where I came in.
