The sort of player who sums up the 'old' Charlton. Full of heart.

Did you see him in the Brighton home game?
    Last season? Oh yes. ;-)
The irony is that was one of the few games last year that he started in right midfield - likewise this season - the 2 performances couldn't have been more different though - I was never in the Wilson is shite camp but that performance this season was abysmal - I don't mind players making mistakes as long as they make an effort and he couldn't even be arsed

Yes - he had been well and truly 'Peetered'. He was poor - but I think his confidence had been destroyed long before he got on the pitch...

Same here. I've never thought he was shite but he hasn't been at it this season for whatever reason. As I said earlier, he needs a run of games to put performances together, which he isn't going to get here. He needs to move on.
  • He's our back-up RM, who would we play there when JBG is out?

Bulot? Surely he's back from the African Cup

Where has Bulot gone? Mane and Kouyate were back for Southampton and West Ham respectively this weekend. I doubt we'll see Bulot in a Charlton shirt again.
  • Was superb last season and has been mismanaged. How's Chris? He will be back at the Valley before too long.

    Yeah, on the 28th.

  • Just like Simon Francis, he will thrive at a club that appreciates him and fans don't constantly give him pelters before the match has even started. If I was him, I'd be chomping at the bit to get out of this mess of a club................

You mean the Simon Francis who was unappreciated by.......Chris Powell?

Lawrie Wilson is one of the most popular players at the club. He is one of the few who is unlikely to get 'pelters' from our fans, along with Solly and Jackson.

I have always wonder if Powell did not fancy him or know he had to get rid of everything negative from the last few years and SF was enemy number 1 with most fans with Mc Oxo Tower.

Suppose having Solly made his decision easier either way.
  • He was the runner up in last seasons Fans Player of the Year vote but more pertinently the Players player of the year.

Best position right sided midfield, but can also play right back, absolute gash on the left though, which he has never claimed to be any of his positions, but where the belgians put him in one game.
  • Wilson was excellent last season; he was also quite decent until the last few games of Peters' reign. Seemingly he has lost either desire, or most likely confidence
  • Better at right midfield than right back in my opinion. Has a decent finish on him too, but is prone to passing backwards when in semi-decent wide positions.

Gone backwards this season but that could be down to confidence/lack of faith in manager.
  • To be fair, Francis was an awful defender with us but good going forward. Give some credit to Eddie Howe who has improved him as a player.

I realise that Powell was the one to get rid of Francis, but the damage had been long done by the time CP arrived, so he made the ( correct) decision to move him on.

As for Wilson, he's been a marmite figure since we signed him, and despite coming runner up in poty last season, I would constantly hear supporters shouting abuse towards him at every opportunity.................. Haters gonna hate I suppose.

He was also player of the year at Southend ! He was great before coming to us but shite for us then great again when he moved on!
As was Wilson he was great before coming to us
I think i can see the common problem here?
  • Ok player in Midfield if you are looking for someone who will get up and down for 90 minutes. Can chip in with the occasional goal. Probably a good lad to have around the changing room as well.

    Cannot play full back though.

  • It's funny how football works, pre season I said he was one of our best players and has to start every week now people aren't that fussed if he goes. I think he was quality for us when he got going.

If we do lose him then that's another character gone. On his day he is a good champ player and has that team player mentality we lack. He must feel a bit hard done by after his good season and as everyone says his confidence is probably gone.

If Huddersfield do get him you can bet any money he'll turn out good for them and everyone will cry about how we let him go for nothing.
  • His two goals vs Brighton were one of my highlights of last season. Ironic that his peak as a Charlton player came in our last home game pre-RD.

Love the way he responds to his chant with a grin and a shrug. Nothing precious or big time Charlie about him.

A very relatable player who, on his day and with a run of games, can be pretty effective too.
  • Nice guy, limited footballer and crappy hair.

Was a consistent good enough player last year and absolutely toilet this season, granted due to huge loss of confidence.
  • Must be hard for a player when he knows the manager doesn't rate him. Bob made this very clear.

POWELL: I’M A PROUD ADOPTED YORKSHIREMAN

  • Generally been a good servant until this year. Solid if unspectacular.

This season though he was clearly out of favour from the off, and hasn't grasped any opportunities when they've arose. Looks unhappy here (he's not alone), and desperately looks like he wants and needs a move away, where no doubt his form will pick up again.

He will play out of his skin for Powell. i am only surprised JJ has not gone there as well.

Well he's got the flat cap
  • I think it would be a good move for him, a confidence player who obviously likes Powell and no one would blame him for wanting to leave the circus that is CAFC (assuming that is the case).

I think he's a more effective full back than he is a winger. No idea where the opposing sentiment has come from.

Don't forget he played MULTIPLE games at full back last season while Solly spent most of it on the sidelines and he almost won POTY.
