Works in insurance now, my mate works with him and I had a good chat with him over a pint at the BIBA Conference in Manchester a few weeks back
Top fella and very very complimentary about all his time at Charlton
When he might have been very bitter about it and/or given the game up. A lot of youngsters do but he probably, unlike some, actually loved playing football.
I remember him catching my eye for his all energy style, not knowing his background at the time, when he played for Stevenage at the Valley. He was their standout player, they only just missed out on promotion and he ended up playing 56 games for them that season. The following year he was back with us in the Championship.
Mate of a mate was so bitter about being released by Charlton at 16 that he became a Palace fan!
He bounced around non-league for a while (Sittingbourne, VCD), but you could see why he didn't make it as a pro despite his ability and pace.
similar to my eldest boy, released by West Ham at 16 .. turned down an offer from the mighty Leyton Orient and was so cheesed off he later took up ice hockey where he could 'let out all his anger'
