Hatton Garden robbery

It could be the biggest ever robbery in the UK. Although, how they will ever know, is beyond me, as they are safe deposit boxes.

Sorry Hercule, if you were talking about an underground fire at Chancery Lane I might be inclined to listen but not something that happened in Kingsway.

I wonder if there is any connection to the underground fire in Kingsway that caused more disruption in the area ? ( Just to add another plot twist for the film). The robbery does have echoes of the robbery of safe deposit boxes in the film, 'Sexy Beast'.

Thing is, and this despite me being employed by HMPS, I actually have a slight respect for such a caper. No one was hurt, only the pride of the vault owners and it sickens me that if caught they'll go down for a substantial stretch yet molest or rape a child and it's likely you'll serve less time. Priorities all wrong.

I did see it and I have to say I'm glad I wasn't in the job back then. I've spoken to fellas who were there (on both sides) and it sounded feckin' scary. From an officer point of view, it was as described, lumps of masonary flying past your head, scaffolding poles used as spears. The choking smoke on the landings, shouting and screaming in the dark. Cons balaclaved up running about in the gloom. I've jumped into situations where there's been twenty cons beating the shit out of each other to restore order but I've never experienced a full scale riot and hope I never do.

Funnily enough though, I remember Strangeways when it happened. I was eighteen and I thought the rioters were heroes, striking a blow against the oppressive, fascist bully boys (still under the influence of the Socialist Worker Party back then). I certainly never saw myself ever being a screw. Funny how things work out.

Regarding how things were done back then and whether or not the riot was justified is a tough one to call. I've heard stuff that went on back in the day and let's say if some of the stuff went on now I don't think I could remain in the job. However when you speak to prisoners who've done years of bird, they'll often say that they preferred the old days because they knew where they stood. They say it's too wishy-washy now and too PC.

I guess things have changed, it's just the challenges are different now.
