The river walk would be ok once the flats next to the ferry have been finished and the river path reopened.seth plum said:I wonder how many minutes it would take the average walker to get from the Woolwich station to the Valley?
Mind you walking that route would not be a pleasant experience hard by that lower road.1 -

I'd imagine that stepping off a train already creates a sense of arrival, but what do I know?!4 -
1 minute 10 sec and you can see the wife's car go down the road without a tree sitting on it.Off_it said:

It takes me about half that. I walk it most weeks.cafctom said:Takes about 50 mins to walk direct from Woolwich Crossrail to The Valley.
The riverside walk has a point where it is usually flooded before Anchor and Hope Lane. It can be negotiated by stepping along the kerb and hanging onto the chain link fencing.1 -
I usually walk from West Thamesmead down the river path and then will cut off back in-land just past the Woolwich ferry. You’re right though, it’s quicker than 50 mins from the Crossrail station now I think about itCrusty54 said:

I used to walk from Woolwich ferry to 5 mins past Blackheath Standard in 45 mins, back in the day, when I'd missed the last bus home.0 -

Don’t think I’ve ever been described as a gent before.Raith_C_Chattonell said:I had a walk round some of my old haunts in the city recently and was pleased that Crossrail had almost finished with Finsbury Circus.
Crossrail had taken it hostage for ten years and turned one of the few green city oases into a gigantic hole in the ground.

I took this photo while having a cuppa - reminiscing a time where once a brass band could entertain the city workers during lunch time on a Summer's day. Gents would be indulging in a game of bowls, birds would be singing, pretty girls all around ... and I would be skiving as usual. Ah halcyon days.

Can’t wait for this. Massive game changer for those around Woolwich. The idea of getting to Paddington in less than 30 mins is mad.7

its going to transform london i think. It makes living in places like west ealing etc feasible for millenials like me who otherwise might not fancy giving up rented places more central to buy in those less fashionable areas whilst maintaining a good commute time.cafctom said:Can’t wait for this. I think acton hanwell etc could transform into being the next "cool" areas, along with woolwich, atm basically nothing goes on there and they're a bit dumpy. Or was when i was a student in the area about 10 years ago!2 -
My daughter is going to UCL next year for her Masters, 14 mins from Abbey Wood to Farringdon instead of 45 mins.9

I see the new line runs from Reading (BERKSHIRE) in the West to Shenfield (not far from Brentwood in ESSEX) in the East. However, in the good old South East in runs as far as Abbey Wood. And thats it. Still no tube lines in Kent, or even in the London Boroughs that were once in Kent (like Bexley or Bromley).
Us poor old South Eastians or dare I even say the word, Kentish folk, get shafted once again. I dare anyone to look up the tube map based on proper geography & see how far it stretches South Eastwards compared to North, East & Westwards.
Argh !!!!!7 -
24th May start date according to that. Excellent.clive said:0 -
I am intending to go on it on the 24th.
Best to get a journey in before all the seats are ruined😉8 -
