Jimmy deserved that, bowling beautifully with the new nut.
  • That is high, high class bowling.
  • Yess! Huge wicket
  • Jimmy snares Haddin

    304-8

Psychologically a hundred lead would be a big deal. And be honest. How many would have said that before the game let alone straight after the World Cup?
  • And Johnson!
  • Big one, lead over 100 will be well useful.
  • Johnson gone. Caught by The Snail at mid wicket off Broad

    306-9

    And still 124 behind!
  • Me and a pal were questioning cooks decision to bat, and feeling vindicated (amd pissed off) after the start we had.

Again, credit to cook he has got this one spot on. Rough up the tail now and keep our foot on their throats

Haven't managed to see as much today as I'd have liked and missed nearly all the wickets but I'm liking what I'm hearing
  • 308 ALL OUT
  • Serious catch from Root. The lead is 122

  • 122 AHEAD
  • 308 all out. A fantastic mornings bowling by England. Definitely in control now
  • What a morning
  • Definite platform now if we bat properly in the second innings.
  • Great catch by Boy Wonder at slip to dismiss Starc.

All our bowlers did their bit too:

    Anderson 18.5-6-43-3
    Broad 17-4-60-2
    Wood 20-5-66-2
    Ali 15-1-71-2
    Stokes 14-5-51-1

And Cook is looking more Brearleyesk by the day.
  • Wouldnt want to be chasing anything over 250 in the 4th innings on that pitch. Although the Aussies have been good chasers in the past.
  • Yes!!

Fabulous display with the ball. We have continuously picked up wickets throughout the innings and almost always seemed in control.

Not only has the batting become more attacking but so has our bowling. We have really pitched the ball up, meaning that the boundaries will come more regularly however the ball is moving so it will only be so long before the mistake from the Aussies is made.

    Congratulations Cookie and the bowlers.

Two things stick out that will give us a mental advantage that will get our players really believing they can do this.

    1) Johnson going for a ton, wicketless. No scars re-opened there.

    2) The tail hasnt blown us away.

These were two of the main reasons why the 2013/14 tour was such a disaster. This time though, so far so good.
  • With the rain forecast to be on/off on Sunday, we've got to get ourselves in and then look to really up the tempo. Don't want Aussies saved by the weather!
  • Starc not on the field!! Good sign!!
  • Starc's not on the pitch ;-)

Or is this an Aussie trick?

Seen walking round the boundarywith a "define limp"

Naturally he will now blow our top order away with a devastating opening spell ... :-)
  • I think I'd be looking to get 250ish (depending on how long it takes) and then declare.

If they get 370 plus fourth knock then frankly they deserve it.

All part of the act ;-(
  • bat them out of sight until tea tomorrow (or before if they get a wriggle on) and then stick them in needing 400+
  • Hope he comes on, I don't want the Aussies with any excuses.
  • We're being a bit premature here, but any declaration, must take into consideration, the weather forecast for Sunday.

The forecast is changing, so it's a wait & see.

Starc is out there now, but doesn't look totally fit.
  • Lyth to get some runs here would be lovely
  • This innings could also be the perfect platform for Bell to rediscover some touch, should (hopefully) we have added a decent number of runs by the time he has to bat
  • Uh-oh. 17-1
