Nothing much in this wicket for the bowlers, at present.

We need to limit them to under 450, if we can & then need to get a 100 lead, if we're going to win.

The weather is set fair, for the Test, so a result is likely.

Australia have to be favourites for this one and we don't have an impressive record at Lords.

I can see us losing this by an innings probably on day 4.

If the Aussies post 500 odd will be interesting to see how our batsmen will approach their innings.

All very well blazing at 4.50 an over in innings 1, but can they grind out an innings when there is already a big score on the board.

204-1. Not a high chance now, of limiting them, to less than 450.

If Bell had taken his difficult catch, an hour ago, it may have looked, a bit better.

I think they will get 500+ and we will need to do the same.

The wicket has been taking spin this season, so we will have to bat well in the 2nd innings as well, to save the game.

It's possible, as the wicket looks pretty dead.

We've slaughtered them the last 2 tests v OZ at Lords.

I know. But generally, Lords seems to inspire the opposition.

Let's ignore the 18 tests against them before those two though....

Been a while since an England bowler got a hat-trick... Surely we're due one? :-)

Yes, not a fan of flat, slow pitches. And that would apply if England had batted first and slowly accumulated runs

Posted this earlier on the Kent thread, but no takers so far. Anyone on here want them?

FREE TICKETS FOR KENT vs ESSEX NEXT WEEK

Calling all long suffering Kent fans on this thread.....

I have two tickets for the Kent vs Essex match at Tunbridge Wells next Tuesday (21st). I was going with a friend but unfortunately for us something has come up and we are going to re-schedule another time. So these two tickets, face value £20 each are available to anyone on here who wants them. I don't want any money for them, but if the eventual recipient wants to make a £10 or similar donation to the Upbeats that would be great.

PM me asap if you want them. Best to make it both rather than split them. I'll need to know today so I can post them tomorrow (Friday).

    337-1 at the close.

This has got a declaration around the 650 mark and bowl England out twice written all over it.

Australia 337-1 at the close. I think we'll call that Australia's day!!

You can't win a test match on the 1st day but you can put yourselves in a position where you can't lose it!

The way our top order capitulates under not a lot of pressure means we will struggle to make it to day 4! Cook needs a real captains innings when we eventually get into bat.

We also need a plan b to Smith. It's all well and good bowling wide and hoping he edges but we dropped him when we got the chance and he's made us pay because he is class. It's not hard for him to suss out what our plan is and then just leave anything really wide and play everything else.

I have to say our bowling was ok. It wasn't great, but we didn't do too much wrong.

They will obviously get 5/600, so we've got to do the same.

I'm hopeful that we can, because unless the pitch alters, there's no reason why we shouldn't.

It's as flat as a pancake. It's just the amount of spin it will take later on.

We need one of Cook's daddy hundreds. Perhaps he can have a go at beating Gooch's 333, which was also made on a flat lord's pitch!

    Far from it.
If OZ make 600+ by an hour after Tea , (which is likely), and we lose 1 or 2 wickets as we usually do, then we are in trouble.
We need to make 500+ in order to even get close to making this a draw, because if we do, then it is likely to mean us batting until early on 4th day, with, say ,a 100 deficit, then Oz will be going full pelt for the rest of day 4 to get a 350+ lead in order that they can make us bat all the 5th day on a turning pitch with Lyon bowling - ok, he aint no Warne, but he aint bad either.
For us to make it safe, we are going to have to get as many runs as they do and make it impossible for them to set a meaningful declaration target for 5th day.
  • I feel that the ECB have instructed the grounds to make flat pitches to nullify Johnson. Could make this series quite boring indeed!

Could be a bit like Charlton taking an early lead and then shutting up shop for the rest of the game.
I'd take a 1-0 series win ! - somehow don't think its gonna happen though.
