  • It is very rare these days for us to get a decent start and even when we do wickets tend to follow:

These are the fall of the first three wickets in the last half a dozen Tests (total runs made between the loss of the first and third wickets):

    1-1 22-2 34-3 (33)
    15-1 20-2 52-3 (37)
    125-1 159-2 164-3 (39)
    11-1 13-2 18-3 (7)
    0-1 38-2 38-3 (38)
    14-1 25-2 74-3 60)
    17-1 25-2 25-3 (8)
    47-1 61-2 62-3 (15)
    177-1 215-2 238-3 (61)
    17-1 22-2 73-3 (56)
    7-1 42-2 43-3 (36)

Let's hope the trend is bucked today!
  • Agreed, Lyth doesn't look, Test match class, to me.

The review of his dismissals this summer says it all. He doesn't know where his off stump is and plays at far too many balls he could leave alone.
  • Ballance b Johnson 23

    28-2
  • Now would be a great time for Ballance to prove his doubters (including me) wrong

    Oh well.....
  • Oh dear the snail has departed. We have a real problem at opener and number three.
  • Ballance was batting as well as I've seen him bat. But, yet again, he has been found out by the full ball because he plays so far back in his crease.

I did say three months ago, when his average of 65 at that time was being thrown at me that he had technical issues and that I would be sure that NZ and the Aussies would see that too. This isn't just a trough in form as he scored a lot of his runs against poor bowling attacks.

    Bell b Hazlewood 1

    29-3

Look what happens, when you bowl at the stumps !
  • Bell out as well 29-3

  • Amending my prediction from 'bore draw' to 'exciting draw' ;)
  • I am going to go read the Kent thread as it is not as bad as this one.
  • For whom the Bell tolls.
  • 383-3 v 29-3.
  • Very predictable.

Would like to say that hopefully we won't see Bell again after this Test but not sure who we would bring in?

  • Root c Nevill b Mitchell 1

    30-4
  • Be over by tomorrow morning
  • 0-1. I predict This will be all over by sunday afternoon

That was a mistype. I meant Saturday afternoon!!
  • Write off those horrible Aussies at your peril.

  • Welcome back England. I've missed you.
  • Oh dear...well they always were going to fight back.
  • Rogers b Broad 173

    362-2

We're right back in it

Not sure that's good news. The wicket might be deteriorating!
You all laughed when I said it but the facts speak for themselves:

    Yesterday - 337-1
    Today - 259-11

    I rest my case ;-)
  • Cooky is now going to do a Root and smash his way out of trouble.

I can only get the bbc live score update at work, i'm fuming

You're the lucky one. The rest of us have to watch it.
  • The wicket may have altered slightly, but the difference is in the batting & bowling, not the wicket.

Poor batting by Lyth, Ballance & Bell. Root also played a poor shot, but Johnson, worked him over beforehand.

Starc, Hazlewood and Johnson have bowled with hostility and at the wicket & man.

We bowled 90% outside the off stump.

This is the difference, not the wicket.

I was being slightly tongue in cheek ;-)
  • Yes, I did realise.
  • Don't think there are many things worse than a gloating Aussie sports fan.
