Just a silly little game to keep us amused between seasons. Curbishley will always remain a hero to all Charlton fans but we've had some weird and wonderful managers since he departed the shores of SE7. Based upon the quality of football played, style, their acquisitions (possibly not valid for last 3) relative to the budget, how would you rank them?

I've gone for:

1. Chris Powell
2. Phil Parkinson
3. José Riga
4. Guy Luzon
5. Bob Peeters
6. Alan Pardew
7. Iain Dowie

I've excluded Damien Matthews, Keith Peacock and poor Les

I agree with most of your rankings but would probably swap Pardew and Dowie

Guy Luzon - too early to call.

All the others are joint last and just a dreadfully inept group although give him his due Pardew has been successful since and I am sure Parky is a good bloke.

This for me. Hard to judge Luzon just yet but maybe switch him and a Powell actually.

    Riga
    Luzon
    Peeters
    Parkinson
    Dowie
    Pardew

I genuinely think Peeters could have done good things. Revisionists praise Parkinson but he was part of Pardew's regime and barely won a match in his first 8 months

    In order, it's been

    1. Iain Dowie
    2. Alan Pardew
    3. Phil Parkinson
    4. Chris Powell
    5. José Riga
    6. Bob Peeters
    7. Guy Luzon
    8. Ivan Vukomanović

Who are these people who think Powell was manager before Pardew ??

Only two off that list achieved anything of note CP, promotion and keeping us up, and Riga for turning our season around.

As much as i love the guy, the football was pretty turgid under Chris.

Although excluding Powell, most people's lists roughly in reverse chronological order - so getting better? clutching at straws?

Pardew and Dowie are the rank Charlton managers, the rest were okay or better.

Based on this, I'd say that the only manager that we've had who's been good over a long period of time is Chris Powell. Jose Riga did better over a short period, but wasn't here long enough to judge properly. Guy Luzon is currently doing well. Let's hope that he can prove himself over a longer period.

Edit: Probably a bit harsh on Phil Parkinson wo deserves more credit than he gets.

Phil Parkinson presided over the club's worst ever winless streak and relegation to league one. he was, rightly, fired and Charlton achieved promotion with SCP. Phil Parkinson is a competent league one manager, nothing more.

I agree with this. Oddly, we're in a minority
