I agree with this minority. People are giving him credit for what he has done at Bradford. The football and tactics under his regime with us were poor as were the results.wmcf123 said:

I too dont understand this Parkinson being in top 3 malarkey.
Took on longest run without a win.
Took us down from the Championship.
Failed to get us out of League 1.
Lost to a non league team live in TV in the cup.0 -
Parkinson always had us challenging for promotion in League One when the club was in a horrible financial situation. I don't think anyone would have kept us up in the championship that season.
I think had Parky stayed he would have got us up. That's not me discrediting the job Powelly did (he made some terrific signings in the 11/12 season), but Parkinson always seemed like a decent manager to me.
A lot of us had an affinity towards him because he seemed to care about the club and was a genuinely nice bloke.3 -

2. Guy Luzon hard to get used to him and his twitchy persona but rescued our season
3= Phil Parkinson inherited the ponse's detritus and never had a paid for transfer in, dignified and likeable despit his impossible job
4= Chris Powell hugely likeable but only did well with the most expensively assembled squad in the division, struggled before and after
5. Bob Peeters early promise succumbed by his unpleasant personality
6. Iain Dowie he must have been thoroughly plausible at the interview (if not 1st choice) his record since speaks for itself
7. Alan Pardew results temporarily better than Dowie's but first hand accounts of his time at Charlton and Southampton will rank him bottom until an acknowledged lower form of life is recruited to the post (e.g. David Mellor, George Osborne, Josef Mengele)

Blaming Parkinson for that season is like very unfair, the damage was done well before he took over.2 -

And were in the play-offs when he was sacked. It was a bad run under Powell that left us in mid table.
If Parky had a striker like BWP we'd probably gone up that first season in League 1.2 -
I've had a little play with the rankings that people gave. Here are the results. It was remarkably consistent with all three measures of central tendency giving exactly the same rank order, so it seems fair to say that in the opinion of Lifers Chris Powell is the best manager since 2007. Bob Peeters was the most consistently ranked person being awarded 5th place on 23 occasions, 4th once and 6th once. Phil Parkinson was the one most likely to divide opinion getting a range of rankings from 1st to 6th. Personally, I think that reflects that there was some disappointment with his results but recognition that he was managing in very difficult circumstances (that of course is my spin on it though). Dowie was ranked as the worst though a handful of lifers marked him more favourably, perhaps belying the feeling that he might have turned things around given more time.

That season the three teams above us were Norwich - they had Grant Holt - Millwall - they had Steve Morison - and Leeds - they had Jermaine Beckford.
Charlton? An over the hill and semi fit Deon Burton.
Oh, and when Powell took over we went from Play Offs to bottom half of the table - underlining that Parkinson was getting the players to massively over perform.2 -
Parky (assistant to Pardew so knew the players) had a worse points per game record than Pardew in our relegation season and managed the team for more than half the season (think it was 28 league games he managed us that season)
That was as lame as an attempt at staving off relegation as you're ever likely to see
And that is as big a reason as any for his low ratings as any , he was part of the problem and was never gonna be the cure in that most pathetic of all seasons
