The point nobody is answering is why it was not announced up front as a CAFC XI. That makes it perfectly clear up front about the game.

Assuming that nobody involved tonight will feature in the first team I would suggest we should expect the following for Bolton (and on to QPR):

New GK (don't think Pope or Taylor will start)
    Solly
    Bauer
    Sarr
    Fox
    JBG
    Cousins
    Ba
    Bergdich
    Makienok
    Watt

    Subs:

    Pope
    Diarra
    Ceballos
    Kashi
    Vetokele
    Jackson
    New winger (not Henry)

I reckon Diarra will start (against QPR)

Does Mitov look better than Pope?
Confidence wise as well as "goalkeeping "?!

Either way Mitov should be nowhere near the first team.
    Really worried about Pope though......
Yeah we probably shouldn't have loaned Dmitrovic out, let's hope Henderson isn't out too long

The U21's should be having their own pre-season matches, our first team should be having theirs.. Seems to be the U21's playing our alleged first team ones (list it as a Charlton XI for the fans sake atleast eh), it's a bit strange so close to the season start.

Played 7 pre-season friendlies, and only KAG & Jackson has scored goals from our first squad starting contention, and both won't be starters. I'd personally try to get players like Makienok gaining as much confidence in the pre-season as possible against lower league English teams, before he's up against good Championship defenders. I'm sure Luzon's and co. have got it all under control though

Sorry if already mentioned - cant see how this was ever gonna be a first 11 slap between two top level games

Then why was it not called a CAFC XI game? That's all that needed to be done.

Just got in. Southend just about edge it although we finished the stronger.

Pope at fault for the first goal and Lennon looked shaky. Bikey was ok and still think he may be worth a place in the squad if budget allows. Mitov looked good second half.

Holmes Dennis impressed me and can see him taking morgans place this year.

Reza Looked sharp when he come on and his movement was the only time there defence looked like it could be moved out of position, again if budget allows would have rest in the squad and let grant go out on loan and play a full season of senior football.

How did Kashi look? Is Jacko looking like being a bit part player at best this year?

Kashi hardly noticed for first 20 mins but to be fair the whole team was slow to start. Kashi looks a bit rusty still but the little he did do was dropping deep to pick up the ball from the defence and a couple of sidewise passes.

Jacko also still looked rusty but did try without success to get the ball moving into the forwards feet more than kashi

Guy has said in his post match comments that Igor won't be fit for Bolton. Bit of a blow that. If it drags on much longer with him I think we might see a loan come in.

He also is still talking about Wiggins as part of the squad ..

Pretty pissed off with that £12 to watch the bloody reserves!

This was billed as a first eleven game, where were last weeks two signings? Surely they need game time, even 45 minutes would have been nice!

Igor's injury is a big worry. He's the only goal poacher we have. And a new one will cost big bucks.

Agree it should have been called an XI friendly..

Surely guy knows his starting 11 for Friday?

If so then surely those on the bench for that game and are only likely to get say 20-30 mins could surely have managed 45 mins today.. then we would have had more than 2 first teamers playing!

Agreed - pissed off paying £12 for that. Hadn't expected our first XI but certainly a few of the new signings to get 45 mins. Thought Mitov looked much more assured in goal compared to Pope who played like he's unsure whether he's good enough for this level. Think another season out on loan is probably best for him.

Probably wouldn't of gone if id seen the team at half 5 When we left. Not much to shout about , Kennedy impressed me the most . Pope very shaky with his kicking as mentioned earlier . Harriott offered nothing, like usual , felt sorry for pigott, he looked frustrated as there was no one around him really. He's very good with the ball at his feet though. Reza looked lively for the 20 he was on , gave all the fans a clap at full time.

Might be worth putting Reza in the shop window while Igor gets more treatment and less game-time that won't help his recovery. I wonder if his rehab was managed properly in close season, honeymoon aside. I doubt we could get a loan in of sufficient quality.

Hope they didn't clap back. He's all about himself, if he struggles somewhere he cries and wants to move on, if someone doesn't want to play for CAFC as it doesn't suit them at the time then quite frankly I don't want to see them in our colours again. Will be disappointed if he's involved in our first squad this season.

Sounds like he played well and I hope he is in contention for the match day squad. He's back, give him a chance.
