Katrien arrived at the stadium as a passenger in Wolves CEO Moxey's Porsche Cayenne .. are they just good friends or was transfer business on the agenda ? .. Henry was by far the most consistent, dangerous and positive attacker on the field and Wolves will now surely be very keen to keep him unless Henry really wants out the Molineux door ..
We looked good in midfield and defence and impotent in attack after Big Mak's very early injury .. our goal was down to a decent shot following a good Vetokele lay off, BUT Ikeme should have saved it .. a bad day at the office rather than a hand wringing disaster, we had two strikers injured before kick off, three after 20 minutes of the first half .. we persisted in long balls up to Vetokele who was mastered in the air by the tall Wolves centre backs ..
.. it was even Stevens until Wolves took off 'play maker' MacDonald and replaced him with the very pacey and aggressive Ojo and the little goal machine Le Fondre came on for their injured striker Dicko who'd been well held by Bauer and Diarra, as was the new 'star' Afobe .. Ojo and Le Fondre along with Henry (moved out of Solly's way to the right wing in the 2nd half) changed the whole Wolves dynamic .. extra pace and aggression allied to our retreating and tiring midfield.. wiley 'ALf' knew a little too much for the excellent but still learning Bauer, he won several free kicks and scored a typical poachers goal .. IF IF he'd been wearing a CAFC shirt, the result could have been reversed ..
Wolves only just deserved the win .. no room or need for despondency, when our strikers are all fit and with a little bit more nous and guile in midfield, we will have a very good season .. Pope had little to do, was beaten by two scrambled but neatly taken goals and as I typed above, our defence and middle were solid if not spectacular .. our 'attack', such as it was .. impotent .. MOM ? .. Solly, a captains' example of toughness and organisation along with very fair play towards the Wolves players .. I enjoyed a tense if not compelling game
Though we competed all game and as for Henry, he looked like a decent player, but it'd take a lot better player to get the better of an in form Solly, who yesterday had Henry in his pocket. Henry may be a great addition to our squad. He seemed hungry for a player maybe with his mind on a move away.
Wolves were a decent team but nowhere near a Derby for me. I know Derby are struggling a bit but their quality will show over the season. Don't expect Wolves to be pushing for promotion on this showing. We'll be safe again with this squad but nothing more. If RD wants better than that, then he may have to put his hand deeper into his pocket to achieve promotion. Money doesn't but promotion as Derby found out but it gets you closer. There may be a surprise package this year but money or indeed quality (in-depth)across the team is what's required to make the dream a reality. As others have said, we've achieved above estimation so far, but when you go on a run nobody likes to see it come to an end. Luzon will kick some arses, let's hope RD's is one of them!
We are looking much better this season - tougher in midfield. We have beaten QPR and Hull, both teams just dropped from the Prem. We made then look ordinary, even dull.
Yes, we wobbled horribly in the last 20 minutes at The Valley last week. Yet, we are much smarter than last year. Do you remember those games the season before, when we couldn't get over the half-way line and muster a single shot on goal?
We are now playing with authority. There is a vast difference. You know those hospital balls on our left midfield, where a pass is slammed ten yards back to the man who couldn't play it first? A minor kerfuffle, and the ball spirals out. We lost possession, and everyone troops off for water.
We are tougher this season. Able to extricate, pass away from danger, get forward and worry our opponents. There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't storm through the league this year.
Difficult for Henry, if he'd have been shite would have had them singing for us to take him and us saying stay. As it was he played well with a couple of poor deliveries thrown in and Solly getting his own back for most of the second half. He proved he was worth a place to both managers.
Suspect he's staying for now but if they don't pick up much then could be useful addition to a tired team in January. Maybe I'm easily pleased by signs of progress rather than the need to win every game at this stage but for me there were many positives in yesterday. I'll stick to the two main differences between this team and those of the last few years. Firstly all the players are comfortable receiving the ball tight and we kept the ball for decent strings of passes looking to go up either flank and then into the D. Secondly If that's a poor game then we can look forward to a decent year. We took control of the game after half time and should of been two ahead. The lifting of our tempo, harrying of their players in possession and successive probing moves into JBG and Igor looked like it was going to take us away from them. Sadly we then ran out of steam and they came back at us through their subs neither of whom we dealt with. So I've seen us at Forest and Wolves and I like what I've seen even though the one point return should have been 4 to my mind and could easily have been 6. JJ walked off talking to Henry yesterday hope he was offering him a settee for the late night dash next week.
Why didn't Bergdigh just cross the ball to Igor when he nabbed the ball off Doherty? It was a certain 0-2.
Seriously selfish play. His attempt at goal was pathetic.
From his twitter... Degouter de ne pas avoir vue igor sur cette action... Next game ! On apprend des erreurs @IgorVetokelehttp://t.co/AoVkcqiYN3
Translates as... Taste of not seeing igor on this action... Next game! We learn errors
I'm no linguist ( careful !) but suggest he's saying " I deliberately blocked everyone else out of my mind. And Igor showed me the error of my ways later..."
We had a good start last season but the depth of squad caught up with us. We certainly need to do something about this as we will be reaching a point in the season where we are blooding 3 youngsters in one game which is a couple too many. Fulham away last season showed up our weakness and it is important we have learned from it.
Henry would be a good signing still. Solly is the best right back in the league so you can't really gauge his performance on that duel.

Now, we need shooting practice...
