Looks like neither Belgium or France are on the 2023 Calendar.

They'll be replaced by Las Vegas and South Africa
If I were in charge I'd skip the whole South of France altogether, keep Spa and sack off Monaco
If there could only be one event in the region, then I'd sack off both the French and Dutch GPs and keep Spa.

Apart from a great disco... the race @ Zandvoort was fecking awful last year.
Agree - also it would piss off the Orange Army / Verstappen clan so positives all round!

But seriously no chance of dropping Zandvoort with Max doing what he is doing.

Gutting to lose Spa….. and Monaco is a borefest now.
Ironically Max was born in Belgium, so could argue that Spa is his home race - Saw yesterday that there will be 50k Dutch fans going to Austria next week - Red Bull basically have about four home races at the moment.
  • Problem with Le Mans is they can't use the 24hr track for it, and the Bugatti circuit is dull as ditchwater
  • The big test for the new regs , can they make a race at Paul Ricard actually watchable?

F1 needed that race with all the drama. It has been dull as ditchwater this year. And what a rendition of the national anthem!!!  Sam Ryder really went for it.  How refreshing.

You must have a short memory because last year’s race was actually exciting.

Honestly had completely forgotten that! So yes short memory ;)
  • I recall going to the British Grand Prix with my dad the year before he died. He was a Ferrari man but I was a Nigel Mansell fan. I had models of some of his cars and pics of him in my room as a kid. It was a special day and great spending quality time with my father who had been diagnosed with cancer.

We were perfectly positioned to see Mansell overtake near the end and win the race. There was a mexican wave of cheering as people clocked around the track he was going to win. Hamilton is definitely the GOAT in my view but Mansell will always be my favourite driver. My dad was a Mansell fan for the day and the whole place was buzzing. It is up there with our play off victories.

As for Sunday. I think if Mercedes had given Hamilton a better pit stop he would have been ahead of Sainz on the road and would probably have won the race. That proves what a great driver the man is and whatever you think of him, you have to accept that fact or you need to look at yourself.
Was that when Mansell won and Senna had run out of petrol and he gave him a lift back?
  • For those of you too young uns that may not have seen it...F1 was very different back then lol

Makes no sense, change the regs to promote close racing, then remove a track like Spa that is one of the few tracks that allows for organic, non DRS, overtakes.

Part of the reason we got such a good race on Sunday is because the track layout at Silverstone allows for actual passing in different parts of the track. If all that turmoil has happened at, say, Singapore then we probably would have had various cars up each other's jacksies, after the safety car, but much less overtaking.

Going on the description I would guess that was 87 when he chased down Piquet and passed him at the end of the Hanger Straight selling him a dummy and sending Murray Walker wild.

Mansell picking Senna up was 91…. I ran on the track from my start line seat as an 11 year old and was standing on the edge of the pit lane as Nige drove past … nigh on close enough to high five Senna

It was this one. Mansell has to come in as he lost the balance in one of his wheels and gradually pulled Piquet in and overtook near the end and we went nuts. It just wasn't on. Everybody went nuts. Mansell would have won that race in a tractor by the way. He called it people power.

I've never seen that before, although I've seen that final pasding move about a million times over the years, thanks for sharing.

I was 11 in '87.  Didnt really start watching until 90/91 from memory.
  • Nigel Mansell, my alltime favourite?
You can see why his neck was almost wider than his head, if you watch the way it was being thrown from side to side on the straights never mind the g-forces in the corners!
  • Christ the stewards / FIA or whoever really are terrified of penalising Red Bull arent they!!

Deleting lap times during the whole of Quali instantly.

Perez does it, when he's at risk of missing out on Q3 - Will be investigated after the race
  • Very very very confused by the stewards decision with Checo. But will be an interesting sprint race tomorrow with the pace of the Mercedes.
  • Yeah shame both Mercs crashed in Q3 - Things would have been very interesting otherwise

Least we can dispel the myth that its only the English fans who lack class when a driver crashes
  • Did Sky have their timings right for verstappen on that last lap? Two yellows and a green for each sector but took pole? His last sector must have been ridiculously quick but still not the fastest?

Sector times don't mean that much right now, because of DRS and the very different ways the cars are setup. For instance I saw a map of the mini sectors in Montreal, and there was about 7 different teams on it, for instance the Alpine carried a lot of speed through the straights, Haas were great under traction out of slower corners etc etc

Was very pleasantly surprised that they didn't just give him a five place grid penalty (I thought thats what he'd get) - But instead had the lap taken away, so starts where he should.

Probably one of the better steward decisions this season.

Just a shame for Gasly, as he would have started ahead of Hamilton at the very least as well, but he still got screwed.
  • here we go for the sprint race
  • Ferrari constantly shooting themselves in the foot, Sainz and Leclerc so busy fighting each other in the opening laps, Verstappen slips off in the distance. If they worked together they'd have a chance of catching him and overtaking
  • They need to rethink Sprint races if they're going to stick around - Only way they can be made exciting is if they copy the format used in F2 and F3 where its reversed grid for the first ten places.

That would than have to be a separate race, as in F2, and not to decide the starting grid for Sunday as it is now.
I'm not a fan of sprint qualifying, as the drivers have to balance the chance of making up a place or two for the grid with completely ruining your race for Sunday. Most choose the sensible option, which is why the sprints tend to be mostly non-events.
  • Seems there’s more going on at the Austrian Grand Prix than racing.

Multiple reports of sexist/racist/homophobic abuse from a certain section of fans.

    Not a good look.

The world feels very 1970’s right now 😞
  • A friend of mine is at the Red Bull Ring this weekend and said the behaviour of the Dutch is unlike anything he has ever known at a GP race. They are all totally shitfaced, and it feels more like being at a 1970s football match than a Formula One event. Tonnes of monkey noises every time Hamilton goes past….. lots of abuse for Leclerc / Sainz as well. He reckons he saw a kid and a dad in Ferrari gear have to leave a stand because they were getting stuff thrown at them by a load of Verstappen supporters. I mean - a fucking kid with his Dad?

That’s not what a race is meant to be about.

I was at Silverstone in the 80s and it was incredibly partisan towards Nige (like Lewis et al now) but not in the least abusive towards likes of Senna or Prost.

Dutch GP could be fun this year then... Hope it doesnt just get disregarded because its a fun / disco venue.

Notice that once again Red Bull arent rushing to condemn any of this - Especially as they bloody well own the track!!
  • As a British F1 fan I used to think Monza was bad - but the Tifosi are tame in comparison. Zandvoort is the last race I would go to, and frankly my old favourite Spa seems a lot less appealing now as well.
