I can't remember what the deal was with cafcnick but it involved Reza and I am calling to collect right now. I think it involved kissing his feet every day for the next 50 days. Something like that. Or a profile picture. Whatever.
Great result today, well done everyone involved. Shouldn't paper over the cracks though. Whether we're winning or not, the way things are being run behind the scenes is unacceptable and the ownership should recognise that. Well done Charlton for the performance, well done protesting fans. Keep both up
Sounds like the players turned up and put in a shift for the first time since the end of August. Makes a huge difference. At the end of the day they're the only ones who could affect the results on the pitch
Seeing as that was the last eleven senior players who were fit enough to start that was very pleasing. As many others have said, Diarra was immense in midfield, Ba had a superb first half, and big Mak and Reza were a constant pain for the SW defence. One swallow may not make a summer but I'm going to enjoy my post match pints tonight.
Diarra was excellent - apart from a mad 5 minutes by Sarr who made 3 poor mistakes everyone did well. Ba put in a real shift as did Makienok and having Reza up front instead of Watt made a huge difference. THD did really well and was very composed and Jackson showed the determination we need. Great pleasure in beating the Massives so easily! JBG unlucky not to bury his free-kick and we could easily have scored more.
One of my first thoughts is for Redmidland with whom I have to often suffer the match threads, although I get the respite going to the Valley he steadfastly does them all, and I'm glad he had today.
if anybody can honestly say they saw that coming they must not be a mere mortal like the rest of us. I don't believe any Charlton Athletic player was less than good today, and a few considerably better. However Sheffield Wednesday were remarkably tame, maybe our pre match doom and gloom had got to their players and fans because they were not at the races, their goal was after a slip (more later) from Saar, but I don't believe I can remember any other on target effort from them for the whole game. Are we their bogey side or something?
The structure of the team was refreshed, with Ba more right, JBG more central, and especially Diarra in midfield. In a good performance Diarra was very very good indeed, I wish we could shave ten years off his age as with Jacko too. What is there to say about Jacko that hasn't already been said hundreds of times already? Jacko is the guy who can do it so often when it matters. His goal was a combination of both raw power and willpower from a great corner by JBG, just like the Fulham goal except the corner came from the other side. A stunning goal when you think about what has happened up to today's match. Good work on the left from Reza, who like Ba had his best ever game for us, let to an easy tuck away from Mackie. Mackie set up Fox to set up Reza for the third, which was a good strikers/poachers goal. Amazingly Reza stayed on his feet for long periods of the game, and cut down on pointing hither and thither, he was the Reza of the Iran World Cup, and contributed well, including in the air. Saar is rapidly improving, Bauer like this is easy to take for granted, THD had to come on unexpectedly for Solly (wasn't that foul by Solly handy as he was trudging off?) and THD was very very good...also his best game for us so far. Hendo had little to do, JBG slammed the bar with a good free kick, and we may not have been the better team but we absolutely deserved to win if that makes some kind of sense.
Nice moment when Fox secretly told the ball boy to slow it down, and the ref only added 4 minutes which was good. I would like to add that the players need to sort out their stud choices because too many of them slip too much.
Following Charlton Athletic is never routine (how I would KILL for routine mid table right now), but one swallow and all that. We have a long long way to go, but if we play teams with the attitude of Sheffield Wednesday every week we have a chance.
Best first half since...I can't remember really. Three key factors 1/ Wednesday thought they just needed to show up for the points 2/ The Iceman was a revelation behind a hard working front two 3/ Diarra played in his best position.at last... absolutely brilliant. All goals were quality...a great team effort. The only way is up.
I said on here after the Fulham game that the team are an enigma.
Well, they still are.
So so different from MK Dons in every way.
Bossed the game throughout. Were Weds poor or did we make them look poor? Bit of both maybe but we fully deserved that win.
The formation suited us.
Diarra is better as the shield in the middle with Ba (best game) and the super goal scoring skipper yet again proving his doubters wrong.
JBG in the hole means he sees a lot more of the ball. Still not convinced by Reza but played well and scored. Ditto big Mak but why didn't he shoot late on when set up by the very sharp looking Lookman?
THD did well although he have harder games, Fox the same but that was a lovely run and cross for Rezas goal. Credit to Simon for the dink to play him in.
Sarr was much better, helped by having Diarra there. Air shot for their goal though.
Man of the Match the RSM
A lovely feeling after going to MK Dons but we will be tested by better sides that Sheffield and we've been here before when a good result or two papers over the cracks in the squad.
Wasn't expecting that. Good performance. Reza was absolute class - couldnt believe it! Think Ba's performance deserves a mention too - don't know why some people want to slag him off so much (some ridiculous ratings on the marks thread again). Lookman looked clever in his brief cameo as well.
Wednesday showed very little - hard to believe that's their first defeat since early september
Did anyone else think Lookman had the appearance of a super fast 10 year old? I'd not seen him before and he is tiny but he is shit hot fast.
Beautiful to see Diarra in midfield and strangely sarr, who has previously looked poor all of a sudden looked mostly commanding. Sarr and Bauer was supposed to be our centre back partnership for the next 5 years and looked promising for that for me today. Maybe a bit shielded by Diarra but still a different player sarr.
JBG and Reza seemed to work well. Good to have big mack back although he really should have scored another rather than trying a touch that went nowhere. YOU JUST SCORED MAN, get some confidence and please I have a tenner on you scoring 10+ this season.
All round for me and the boy, we were dreading it and thank goodness we had a good afternoon. I wore my red and white and a black and white scarf. I support greater transparency and fan ownership, we joined in the protest but good god I'm happy we won.
Much more like it, and like everyone else I never saw that coming. A good positive performance particularly first half, 3 nicely worked goals, and although we gave away the obligatory cheap goal to the opposition you can't complain about a 3-1 win against a team unbeaten in 11 before today. Keep playing like that and there's a chance we might still be a Championship team next season.
Diarra in midfield was the difference. Ran the show. Impressed with THD at right back. Ba much better and nice to see JBG getting some form back. Shame Sarr slipped for the goal as other than that I thought he was excellent.
Nice to see two strikers scoring as well.
Yup on Diarra, surprised it wasnt tried sooner, and Ba.
Most unexpected, I think Wednesday were a bit complacent, but they should know we have a good record against them!
A good formation (4-1-2-1-2) with Diarra in front of the back 4, and JBG in a free role between the Ba/Jackson and Reza/Mak. Congratulations to whoever chose that way.
More importantly, we looked hungry, so much more lively than MK Dons on Tuesday, you'd have thought we had a new manager already.
Ba was much better, Reza had a good game but I thought he was one of our better attackers on Tuesday (well least bad) when compared to the unfit Watt. Plenty of running, and decent in the air.
We were completely dominant. Diarra was superb and Jackson ran his balls off. Reza owes us and played like he knows it. What a difference it makes when you can get players to the by-line.
One swallow doesn't make a summer but I thought Carole got her tic tacs spot on today. 4-2-3-1 worked for the players that we have available. JBG was superb in that free role. And Reza made some great runs. Wednesday thought they could just turn up and take the points today but they weren't really in it. Did Henderson make a save of note? Agree that Diarra is better suited to central midfield. Anyway, onwards and upwards
Great performance, typical Charlton for all of the rubbish they have been churning out recently they come up with that.
Diarra was a key difference. JBG was class today, and he looked the player we saw numerous times last season. Reza put in a decent shift, now he needs to maintain that on a regular basis. Ba although still lost the ball needsley at times, his physical presence was vital and he was a real nuisance to Wednesday.
Never seen Lookman before but based on that 10 minutes he could be a real star
Jacko is still the heartbeat of what is left of our club. Despite our CEO not wanting any history of our club, Jacko's relationship with the fans should never be underestimated
The fans were fantastic from 1st minute to last, despite what the owners may think, we are the club not them.
Wow what a difference. Hard work, positive offensive line up Diarra running midfield Henderson hardly a save to make, am I asleep or did that just really happen.
Take my hat off to the team today full of running and endeavour so so much better, brilliantly led by JJ and Reza was a revelation, more please Charlton.
The truth is however it was all down to the sofa being gone,KM your next.
Great win today.Everyone played there hearts out today.Special mention to Diarra who was class above today. Also Sarr and Ba who have had a lot of stuck recently (rightly so) were superb today. How much better were we today without Watt? Gudmundsson in the middle is the way forward.RED ARMY RED ARMY!!
It is likely Sheffield Wednesday had us watched at MK Dons and set up accordingly. Karel made significant and successful changes to the players and their positions today and it paid off handsomely.
However I think we can be sussed out again, and again when we change further. This is the toughest of leagues, and the ultimate question is whether tweaking the formation is the only solution. We still need a stronger, much stronger squad, and we still need to be much fitter, and we still need to know about the opposition.
It was great today, even if very weird too, but I would be careful to make too many assumptions based on a one off. If we win the next nine in a row then that's a different thing entirely.
More organised, More commitment, Diarra brilliant in his normal position and very vocal to the others. Sarr had another good game apart from one mistake in the second half although the whole team did tire towards the end. Never expected to win but was surprised as mentioned how better our shape was with the full backs pushing further forward. Also thought Holmes Dennis was good.

Who are these Charlton players who can hold onto a lead and win, and where have they been for 3 months?!
Listen to the Charlton roar
You can laugh, you can shout
We still want the Belgians out
Well, they still are.
So so different from MK Dons in every way.

Typical Charlton not following the 'script'
