Diego Poyet revealed his delight at making his return to The Valley after re-joining the club on loan on Monday afternoon.
The academy graduate made his Addicks debut during a hugely impressive 2013/14 season which saw him named Player of the Year, before leaving to joining West Ham United in the Premier League.
But after being presented with the opportunity to return to the club which he first joined as an 11-year old, the midfielder admitted he could not wait to get started in the red of Charlton once again.
“It feels good to be back,” said the midfielder.
“Karel Fraeye first made contact with my agent and straight away I was really excited about the idea.
“I spoke to him and we got it done as quickly as possible. I’m just looking forward to the rest of the season.
“I was a little bit nervous last night, but excited about coming in and seeing the boys. I didn’t tell any of them that I was coming in, so it was a bit of a surprise to some of them seeing me pull in this morning!
“It’s been really nice to see everyone, including staff who have known me over the years, so it’s been really nice.
“I’ve finished my first training session, I really enjoyed it and I’m glad to be back.
Reckon this would have been a nice lift to some of the players seeing him turn up out of the blue
It feels good to back, please don't make me laugh, he couldn't wait to get away,, couldn't even cut it at the franchise, I hope he's up for the fight or this could get ugly.
People only voted him player of the season because they wanted to sign up again for the club, ( cousins got my vote)maybe it's not a bad thing that he'll have to prove himself to the fans.
Is he the same player who left us? If he does not play well, how long until the crowd gets at him? Why do MK Dons not want him? I think we could have made a better choice - too many risks attached to this one!
Reading the general reaction when we let him go, it was not that angry, more along the lines he was not as good as he was made out to be. Now he's coming back that all seems to have changed. What I can't see is, from the board's point of view, why has someone we thought was not important enough to keep become someone key to keeping us up?
Because RD, Meire & the mysterious recruiters are a complete bunch of fuckwits.
I know i'm going to get pelters for saying this , but i'm really not looking forward to the next 5 months of the season, having the ball being passed sideways and backwards , i was pleased when Diego went, but not at the manor of his departure (ie no fee) i really hope i'm wrong, sorry if i've upset anyone.
Agree with the backwards and sideways passing. Rarely forward - but maybe that was the team at the time. Happy to give him a second chance and hope he can put his passing skills to good use but in a forward direction!
Happy to give him a second chance lol. I'm happy he's giving us a second chance. Played 20 odd games, was MOM in most of them, won POTY and then we offered him a derisory contract.
Welcome back Diego. A midfielder that can control a ball, hold off the opposition without losing it, pass a ball to a team mate and run all day long.
I think we're going to agree to disagree, he's here now anyway, and I will put my differences aside for anyone that puts on a Charlton shirt and gives 100% we are right up the creek and need help.

No way , he was outstanding and won on merit, constantly man of the match in the games he appeared in
I hold no grudge for him doing what he thought was best for him , it probably was short term wise financially, he'll be a long time retired and if he'd signed he'd only have been lining the Belgian fruits pocket
DP was a water carrier in his spell for us but can do much more than that. Like the way he immediately moves when he gets the ball, opening his options. Can see him at head of a diamond threading passes through for pacy runners like Igor & Lookman.
Not the fittest - nobody is saying he is - but way more creativity in his left peg than anyone else we have in the middle of the park and he scored goals too.

Eh? I don't think he's scored a goal in his pro football career
Back to planet earth after the weekend guys, when we were getting a mention around the world. Poyet is and was the defensive midfielder who can protect the centre backs, feed the attacking full backs, his fellow midfielders and on his 20 plus games last time, pass to someone wearing the same shirt as him, which should be mandatory, but has been a terrible problem for most of our players. Diego Poyet is NOT Hoddle/Wilshere but just like when he played for the academy He is the Link man, (good short passes)but not the Playmaker, JBG is on his day the attacking midfielder or number 10 really, and Jordan Cousins has the legs to run all day but need to work on his close control.
A great signing for the rest of the season, maybe to help keep us up, But unless we get new owners he will be gone in the summer, Because as others have mentioned his contract offer was poor last time considering he had been MOM in most of his matches for us.

Think it's fairly clear West Ham don't really fancy him so he needs a permenant move probably in the summer. Doubt he'll get a gig at a Premier League club again until he shines for a season at least in the Championship.
Given our league position I wonder whether we have his loan until the end of the season with perhaps a view to buy should we retain our championship status. No way would DP want or us afford him if we get chopped.
I am fully in line with soapboxsam on this one. He can play the role that Ba is currently doing (and not very well as passing to a red shirt seems to be a problem for him) despite the fact that I thought his behaviour towards CAFC when he left was disrespectful, I think this could be a terrific signing if he can reproduce the form he showed before.
I liked Poyet he showed levels of maturity a a player than many players never achieve.
I believe he left for the increase in wages (something we can't blame him for) and the opportunity to prove himself in the Premier League. I think he might have achieved that at West Ham had they not gone out and bought more players with the new Sky deal.
I have no problem with him coming back. His reasons for leaving were selfish but so are most people's decisions and I don't believe many of us on here would have behaved any differently. This is especially true when you take into account Chris Powell's sacking and the influx of 'jokes' from SL and the rest of Europe. He had every right to think the club was going in, completely, the wrong direction. Why would he have signed a long term contact with us under those circumstances. We currently have fans of decade walking away and Poyet was offered thousands of pounds a week to do so.
My only worry is that he didn't tear up the Championship last season for Huddersfield (under Chris powel) and can't get in the MK Don's side. Maybe our side was just set up for him two season ago, maybe he's lost something. If he can be the player he was two years ago then this could be the signing of the season, if he can't replicate it then this might turn out to be very underwhelming.
Either way I'm glad to have him back and have no problems with him.

I imagine he wasn't expecting West Ham to then sign Alex Song, someone who plays in his exact position!
