Curbs speaking about us on 5. Oh dear. Clearly not supportive/ totally unclear of what the protests are about telling the fans to get behind the club and sort the issues out on this summer. Disappointing.
I agree with him... Need to get behind the team and concentrate on making the Valley the fortress of noise it was of old.
Once were safe the protests can restart!!
The last time the Valley was a fortress of noise was the Cardiff game when CP's job was on the line. With only 8000/9000 regular supporters in the ground, I think a fortress of noise is a pipe dream.
One other point. Were I to be giving media advice to Katrien, then based on my working as a journalist I would advise her to do exactly as she has done. Speak to agencies and not directly to individual journalists other than those you believe are more receptive to your message. Agencies such as PA and Reuters have a wide client base and so do not ask probing questions, They are not investigative and allow the interviewee to pretty much get their side across unchallenged. She is also speaking to foreign media (ie Belgian press) as, again, they will be more receptive and probably less informed. I would also have advised Jose Riga to do exactly as he has - distance himself from the regime, appeal directly to fans.
Expect to hear more use of "our club" "engage" etc and for constant repetition of phrases which imply the club and fans are closely allied. Much of what is being said now is carefully crafted to get a constant message across, aimed at the less commited fans and the media, and to marginalise the protesters. Whether this works, however, is dependent on one thing they cannot control - result on the field.
She doesn't have "permission" to be heard at this stage and even if the result turn around I don't see that changing. The astute thing to do would be to remove her and bring soneone
Someone should make Curbishley sit through the Roland videos. Then let's hear what he has to say.
Without a proper understanding of what has come before, these vids might actually convince people that our owners seem to know what they are doing.
That is exactly what the aim is. All recent interviews - Murray a classic example - have been utter bullshit, but bullshit designed to convince the media that the club is in safe hands.
Do any of us know Curbs well enough to give him the low-down on what this is all about? I don't but am always amazed by who knows who.
Similarly for Steve Brown on BBC London.
Several weeks ago he would only comment about the on-pitch mess as he didn't know much about the off-field stuff. Yesterday evening he went further but he is still obviously not up to speed. A more-informed Steve Brown and Bradley Allen will help to consolidate the excellent coverage given by Phil Parry which amounted to many minutes yesterday.
We made it in to The Observer Sport's Saturday Sundae (p11):
MOST CONSISTENT
Maintaining their 1005 shambles record this season: Charlton's owners, apologising after a photo of the wrong club legend was used during a minute's applause. Fans stood to pay tribute to the late Graham Moore as the screen showed a shot of Alan Campbell. "The club wish to apologise."
I suppose, in fairness, it was wise that they didn't say that the club is sorry, because that's a statement we could all get beind.
Curbs is the fence sitter that never slags anyone off in public. Of course he knows what's going on. He cares about the club but he's just a bit annoyingly cautious sometimes with what he says.
Lazy reporting again, we followed Liverpool and Arsenal revolts, we were doing it before them. Fans angry over players that were let go, including Poyet, he is with us on loan, for the good it does us, read the squad sheet Joe Hall and do some proper reporting.
The Charlton news account I maintain on Weibo (China's equivalent of Twitter) caught the eye of a reporter who writes for Football Weekly, the most widely circulated football magazine in China. He asked me if I was interested in doing a small Q and A interview. I thought why not. So we had a chat last week and the interview was published this week. I managed to talk about Charlton Life, our ongoing issues, the CARD's campaigns and the Varney email farce. The reporter was kind enough to put it all in the piece. It probably won't help to any extent and I guess readers are much more interested in the articles on all those big clubs in the magazine but nevertheless it's great to have helped spread the word and it's nice to see us get some publicity here.

JessieAddick Don't underestimate the power of the media. That's sterling work of yours in getting the Charlton ownership fiasco into the China football forum which must be one of the fastest growing on the planet. You just never know who might see this (plus Roland may get wind of it) or where it might lead. The wider the area of protest the better. Lets go global. Spain (Alcorcan sponsors) and Hungary (Ujpest sponsors) now targets and Roland's electronics companies have a subsidiary in USA. Roland should come to realise that every area of his business and football network empires should come under scrutiny for potential protest events and pressure on his sponsors. As a businessman first and foremost (despite his other crackpot ideas) he must eventually respond to concerted pressure. Good for you Jesse.
Thank you all very much. I have so much respect and admiration for all of you. You have been doing everything you can to support the club in the past many decades. I think I just did the least I could do. It's been a very frustrating year but CARD and all the other groups and individuals have done lots of encouraging things on and off the pitch. I feel I'm witnessing something like the Back to The Valley Battle of the 90's. I decided to support Charlton partly because of that very very important part of its history and I feel proud we've got so many great people who are again making every effort to fight for the future of this club. It is very touching and encouraging.
I believe I'll one day go over to visit The Valley, thank Fanny, GlassHalfFull and many others who have generously done things for me, and meet the great people I got to know through this website.

I'll take his advice on campaigning when he takes mine on football - neither of which is happening any time soon.

100% not 1005 (hate this keyboard).

If only you knew how much you were loved in this part of South East England. We'll get you over one day - sooner rather than later.
Keep that candle burning.

We all look forward to the day we finally meet you.
