Privately-educated Premiership footballers

There are many - possibly a majority, at some clubs - privately-educated players in rugby and cricket. But far fewer footballers (in percentage and actual terms) have come from "Public Schools".

Frank Lampard went to Brentwood
Diego Poyet - Eltham College
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - St John's
Victor Moses - Whitgift

Anyone else..?

  • Raheem Sterling.

No, he went to a comprehensive in Brent
  • With a name like Ward-Prowse you'd hazard a guess that he can be added to that list.
  • Rio Ferdinand

    Where did he go ?
  • Rio Ferdinand

    He went to Blackheath Bluecoat.
  • Robin Friday - "The Greatest Footballer you never saw" - went to Borstal. Does that count?

Don't think it was a private school, CofE I think. Closed down in the last couple of years.

No, he went to Oaklands Catholic School, which is state-funded.

Voluntary Aided. Shithole as well. Ferdinand was a first year when I left I think. It most definitely was not a public school...

If double barrel surnames are the mark of middle classness then we must have been scouting private school teams heavily in recent years !
  • Will Hughes of Derby

Not a Premier League player but still...
