That explains why we saw Paul Elliott and Richard Murray together in the club reception today.

    Remembered binos today.

From the East Stand looking into Directors box:
At about 2.50 saw Richard Murray with two other younger guys possibly his sons?
Richard Murray put on a silly striped woolen hat and Katrien Meire arrived at about 2.55 with a security guy and sat next to Murray with the security guy sitting on the aisle seat to Meire's left. The others had moved away.
Arriving just before Meire was Harry Redknap (strangely also accompanied by a minder who sat in aisle seat to his left about 3 rows in front of Meire and Murray).

Later, in same row as Meire and Murray but separated from them by a few empty seats was a guy whom I think from the hairstyle might have been Paul Elliott (if the reports above are correct). He was seated with the guys who may originally been with Murray but can't be sure.
Any truth in the rumour that Redknapp gave Meire a ' my old woman could run this club better than you' jibble?
No, he said that his dog Rosie could though
    Na. Rosie's after Joyes job!
  • I've been giving this some thought overnight. The £38 million is maybe the opening stance, negotiations then take place and a more realistic price is agreed, but with add-ons. The PE or RV consortia buy the club for £20m upfront and then as the club, hopefully, rises again then RD will get extra cash, which eventually could rise to the total of £38m when/if we hit the Prem league, as a separate part of the negotiations they could then add extra over and above the £38m when we get CAT 1 status on the training ground, for example and extra 10% (£3.8m). This would mean that in potentially as little as 2 seasons time with CAT 1 and the club in the rich land of the Prem, RD could get a total return of £41.8m. In the meantime he relinquishes his loans to the club from Strapix, gets £20m now and that allows the new owners to invest in the playing squad in order to achieve promotion as soon as possible.

    Brilliant!

Except that Charlton isn't worth £20m now.

If Duchatelet is serious about selling the Club. I think he will be selling any player of value in the Summer and not investing in any new players.

I agree, especially given what happened at Standard. That said, I think that either way there will be a big clear out this summer, either because players don't want to play in League One or because they aren't good enough/we can't afford them in League One. It'd be great if new ownership came in and were able to persuade some of the players who might be on the fence (Bauer, Tex, maybe a couple others) to stay, but I think we should expect any player with quality to depart.

£38million must be the right price, I mean the barrow boys over the river just paid £15million just for a stadium, whereas this £38m gets you a stadium, a shop, an NHS call centre, the best outdoor screen in the land, a half built training ground, a laundry van and 25-odd below average footballers

You left out the biggest asset - the sofa !!
don't forget the senior management team either

That's a good point. He'll sell off the Crown Jewels before selling the club. Let's hope these various buyers are serious. If RD flogs the core of the team and we're struggling, THEN the mystery buyers walk away...it could well be League 2.

I'm so optimistic this morning, as you can probably tell.

Yep agree @Chizz that we might not be worth £20m currently, more like £15m, but I cant see him agreeing to go for less so I was trying to second guess what a megalomaniac would turn his head for (other than KM of course!!)

£15m is closer. But still way over-valued. In my completely unqualified opinion.
  • Still can't help thinking this figure of £38m is his figure and it's more of an attempt to "put to bed" suggestions of selling rather than a starting point for negotiations.

Even Roland is aware that £38m is ridiculous even in terms of a starting point for talks.

It could also be an attempt to deflect the protests.

In order to pass judgment on what the aim for the "leak" was , we need to know who leaked it to AB/RE & card ... Could be an attempt to push the club into talking to potential suitors and get the ball rolling OR. An attempt to shut fans up and reduce protests - all depends on what party it came from!
  • Is it 100% confirmed that work at Sparrows Lane has stopped and if it has do we have an official reason as to why ?
  • Surely releasing a statement wouldnt placate fans but actually drive them to protest harder. I know I will be.

I'm not sure why this is worth a LOL but I'm sure someone will tell me.

  • I got some hefty scowls in the West Lower today when I stood if I wanted them out. It wasn't the most vociferous rendition but I felt some waves of hates when I stood up.

Well, you did have your cock out at the time
Is that what it was? I thought it was Richard Murrays little toe.
  • It's a rumour.

Don't like the bloke. Don't want him running our club, but I guess anything will do right now

Do you know him personally ?
Always seemed very articulate to me.

Or the fact that after a "Business deal" lost him money he called a Charlton Legend a N.............

I'm surprised that he didn't realize that Richard Rufus just wouldn't have the business nous or acumen to make the profits that were projected without it being based on a template of a Ponzi scheme.

I don't see how Duchatelet can possibly get £38m for a League One club, but its a big step forward to extract a price from him when he's been telling everyone he's not selling. He has made his 'investment' and by any measure has absolutely failed to add value too the business. There is no way a new buyer is just going to let him out with zero loss. He has done severe and long-lasting damage to the club and this will be reflected in any sale price because it will take a shit-ton of cash and hard work to fix.

His only calculation in a sale is how much is he prepared to lose whilst getting rid of the club before ongoing losses mount to an unbearable level for him.

He's not even going to get half of that asking price. His stewardship has been an absolute dog's breakfast. He has seriously devalued the club through getting us relegated, wrecking the management of the club on both the playing and non-playing sides and has seriously undermined the relationship with his 'customers' and other stakeholders. They are all issues created by his own and Meire's incompetence and someone is going to have to pay to put them right. To build on Weegie's house analogy, his property has structural damage. Self-inflicted structural damage. He has only two options. He can either pay out up front to fix those problems, or he can drop the price to a realistic level that would enable the new owners to repair and make good. Either way, he pays.

One thing is for certain though, If he stays, he will lose money hand over fist. They are about to find out just how much nonsense Meire was spouting when she talked about the unimportance of fans to their financial model. Between those fans that are actively boycotting next season and those that are passively drifting away because they can't stand his brand of Eurodross any longer, there are likely to be fewer fans at The Valley next season than in any since our return. Add to that the massive difficulties they will have in finding sponsors for their toxic administration and they have engineered themselves one major headache.

He has massive personal wealth, but even he could drain that away if he continues on the reckless route he's been heading down. He needs to sell up, but to do so he has to be realistic. Asking for £38m isn't so much pissing in the wind as having diarrhoea in a tornado.
Diarrhoea in a tornado, best line ever.
