If she was a ponce as some on here make her out to be, she coulda not bothered being the 'Queen', jacked it all in and still lived an extremely privileged life without all the hassle that goes with it. But, she's stuck with it and her service has been exemplary IMO.
If you are a republican then fair enough, but surely that's an argument worth having on another thread
A lot of people do not seem to realise this but where other monarchies have been downgraded or are no longer have a role at an official or national level, they are still considered to be royals, except they mostly just enjoy a life of huge privilege without returning much if anything back to the country, since they still own their wealth and property. Royals entertain other Royals but otherwise they are just there for the sake of it. If we jacked in our monarchy, the House of Windsor would lose a couple of palaces but would otherwise still be very much a rich and powerful family except now no longer burdened by any official duty. They still own most of their own wealth and property in their own right. Instead, we have a Queen who is very much a public servant and who has tirelessly worked to put her own position of privilege towards the greater public good. They certainly contribute far more at the moment both in terms of money and national prestige than if they were dethroned and were instead private citizens paying normal taxes.
I agree in an ideal world there would be no monarchies or royal families but what we have now is certainly better than what we would have if we dethroned them tomorrow.
