Don't we normally do most of our business after the window has shut and free agents are desperately trying to find a club, any club, to regain their fitness levels?
Would we have got more for Pope, Cousins and JBG had we held them until today and been able to sell Watt to some desperate Championship club like Derby.
Maybe, but would we have been able to sign some of the players we already have and desperately needed if we hadn't shifted a least one of two of those players already?
As always, shades of grey with all these issues - never black and white.
Yes as we are owned by a billionaire so £5M in or so on those 3 did not have to make all the difference to our in comings. JBG and Cousins were certainly sold at such low amounts I can't believe we could not have got more by holding for an extra month or so.
Rule of thumb with the club this transfer window has been if someone bids and the players wants out, it's done. It's resulted in ridiculously low value sales, but it also indicates that Fox has decided he doesn't want to leave to go to a higher division for more money, he wants to stay with us. He deserves a lot of credit from the fans for that
I don't rate Cousins or Fox, but Fox is certainly not worth same amount as Cousins, very strange.
Sheff Wed be a bad move for Fox anyway he's very much a confidence player, you can imagine the massives getting on his back when things don't go their way and the atmosphere can be toxic up there.
Someone offers 1.5 million for cousins we accept. Someone offers 1.25 million for fox we say no. You couldn't make it up
Difference is Cousins wanted to go, Fox doesn't!
Well said. Cousins wanted out. If anything Fox should get respect for staying and not insisting on a move to a club that was in the play off final last year and are spending a few quid .
Agreed. I'm probably in the minority, but I like Fox. Come through the ranks, has taken a bit of shit, he just gets in with and never hides. He may not be the best player in the world, but I've seen a hell of a lot worse.
Yet we still get some complete and utter mugs that boo him.
Ok as much as you all (myself included) don't want to admit it..
But if we have rejected up to 4.5m for lookman and 2m for Fox then credit then credit needs to go to the club for doing so.
Although it's not 11pm yet...
But we're still short on players. Considerably. Why should I give them credit when we supposedly have a top six budget and Kevin Foley as our first choice central midfielder?
Not that I am an apologist - far from it - but he's not. He's here for five months, presumably while Diarra and Kashi get fit.
Whenever that will be. The fact remains that we've started a promotion campaign with Kevin Foley in central midfield.
If we'd been offered 2m for Fox six weeks ago we'd have taken the money and run and most fans would have agreed it was good business. But having sold THD we simply cannot. Meire would be in an even more untenable position, selling our first choice left back with four hours to find a replacement. She must be kicking herself she sold THD for 200k now bids of 2m have come in for Fox!

Do we still need to be patient?
Are those 48 Slade hours finally up?
Will we sign those 2 extra players?
