Terrible tournament. I think the standard of football has dropped massively. I wonder how the European teams will fare against the rest of the world in Russia 2018?
Can't find a scenario (admit I haven't looked too hard) where this has happened in a 24 team tournament before but I think it shows that it needs to be urgently looked at for the 2020 tournament.
I'm fine with there being 24 teams in the tournament but keep it to the top two teams progressing from the groups.
Obviously have to solve the issue of having 12 teams left from that point on.
The four best group winners get byes into the quarter finals.

Either 32 and half the games are pointless or 16 and boo hoo uefa and the TV companies miss out of dosh... or 24 and even more games stink
The standard is low in general, and would be even with 16 teams, but Portugal are the worst thing happening to this competition. I would have preferred if either Poland or Croatia beat them, or if Turkey/Albania qualified for the knockout stage ahead of them.

In the Russian cup a few years back, Alania reached the final without winning a game in normal time, and even more impressively without actually scoring a goal.
They got through every round by drawing 0-0 after extra time and then winning on pens. They scored in the final though............and lost.
Glad to hear that our multi millionaire Footballers, dropped in on a Calais migrant Site on their way back to Britain.

Not looked at this thread since our "performance" on Monday. He's a complete knobjockey but we can't deny Pepe was awesome last night.
If I were in the Wales squad I'd be buzzing right now. Vermaelen suspended, Vertonghen out, Hazard not 100% fit. We saw from Italy what a well disciplined and organised side can do to Belgium and I think Wales could do the same thing. Bale v Ronaldo in the SF's, can just imagine those dramaqueen Real fans moaning when Bale has the nerve to tackle him.
Also echo the thoughts of others, general standard of this tournament has been poor. The majority of the smaller nations that made it through didn't or couldn't compete i.e Austria, Turkey in the group stages and then the first knockout round, N.I, ROI, Hungary, Czech Republic etc.
I can't be the only one hoping Belgium smash Wales tonight? All this 'let's get behind the welsh cos they're the last home nation left' is doing my head in!

Not me, I hope wales beat Belgium to show our FA how its done. Although they have nothing to prove as they have already done better than England by getting to the quarter finals.

Was rooting for them, as I had nothing against them, until I saw this:
fuck em hope they get battered and bale has a shocker, up until that silly video i wouldnt of minded them doing well, 58 years to get to a major tournament and couldnt even beat a very poor/average england side
Yeah, the England team would not have done that if Scotland had just lost to Iceland would they? We deserved to be mocked cos England are shite
Players are no different to fans when it comes to things like this, good luck to them
Once again, there's absolutely no way England players would have celebrated Wales losing a game, or even Scotland. There would have been laughs but they were full on going mad. I wouldn't even expect Charlton players to celebrate like that if Millwall or Palace lost in a final. It's really weird, especially when most play in England and are English themselves!!!
Those English come Welsh players should be ashamed to call themselves English and it clearly shows they are traitors to their own country. Personally I don't give a stuff about Wales but might do a silly celebration too when they go out tonight.

Of course England players wouldn't.
It's tinpot.
Why care? If they're that small-time, leave them to it, I say.
This whole Wales video balls is nonsense. Many of us go on and on about players being out of touch and having no connection with their supporters. On a rare occasion the players are shown to have a reactìon similar to that of their fans and they get pelters for it from some. Weird, not meaning unique.

Teams playing for non-participating governments could have some illnesses or poor refereeing decisions possibly.
Wales and Iceland would have gone into the Qualifying Groups whilst Hungary wouldnt even have reached the competition.
True. But you could also argue that they haven't lost a game either.

you could theoretically have a tournament where all games are drawn
but more realistically Chile got out of their group in the 98 world cup without winning a game and that was a standard top 2 from 4

If this tournament format stays the same it'll be a regular occurrence.
