Sorry, in the interest of fairness it is also worth pointing out that, strange as this may seem, illegal possession of a firearm can be a far more mundane crime in the US than it sounds. It can have to do with not having the right paperwork for a gun, letting a permit expire, etc. It would be like letting your car registration lag.
