Some people are really lucky. Or corrupt.
But when those individuals are potentially tied to someone who is a convicted felon, who is capable of starting a war without any other approval as a distraction for the further scrutiny of certain files evidencing he's a wrong'un, sacking generals and anyone else who opposes him, pardoning the founder of Binance in exchange for support of his own Crypto business, sending a lawless army to create terror in states where he isn't supported and so much more, then it's going to be quite hard to bring charges against them.golfaddick said:

Then we should, perhaps, look at the platform these contracts were placed on - Polymarket - which has been banned by governments in multiple jurisdictions. It was originally blocked in the US amid regulatory scrutiny. It is a total coincidence that the second Donald Trump administration eased the regulatory environment for Polymarket and at the same time appointed Donald Trump Junior, as an advisor, after his firm, 1789 Capital, invested in Polymarket.
The Democrats are calling for such prediction markets to be made illegal. It's not just the insider trading element which, of course, is disgusting. It's the fact that these can actually alert parties to the imminence of any such event happening which in the case of military action can have disastrous consequences for not just the US but the world.8 -
Luck has nothing to do with it. Simply part of a group that are treated as above the law.bobmunro said:

The Democrats are calling for such prediction markets to be made illegal. It's not just the insider trading element which, of course, is disgusting. It's the fact that these can actually alert parties to the imminence of any such event happening which in the case of military action can have disastrous consequences for not just the US but the world. The media has been doing the best it can to mislead people. I have been reading and listening to US military related material for almost three years now. It's not how the media paints it to be. One recent example, SecWar Hegseth sacked a colonel who worked for their Army chief of staff. You'd expect the usual criticism from the media but I saw many current service members on Reddit which is - mind you - a left-leaning platform, saying how they had always disliked said colonel. They were happy that he was gone! I've seen cases like this a lot of times ever since Trump overwhelmingly won the election in 2024 ie. the media says one thing and those who actually know the issue say another. I used to hate Trump too but I became curious as to why he defeated the Democrats so easily in 2024 and learned about a huge lot of things. I noticed he was very popular among the service members so I put my bias aside while listening to veterans on podcasts. I learned about his policies which directly affected the military personnel positively, plus the reasons why Obama and Biden were almost universally hated. I'd hate those two as well if I'd served under them, not to mention the civilian issues like the border issue - this is what you will never get to see or understand through reading the news reports or articles published by the usual media outlets. They all hate this administration (possibily with their own purpose of financial gains) so they're biased.I watched the Pentagon press conference from start to finish last night and then went on the internet to see what the journalists say. Some of the comments made by those "journalists" really made me wonder if they watched the same press conference as I did. So this is another example. I had possibly been misled for more than 4 years during the first Trump administration. There're a lot of other things I wanted to explain but I think it'll probably be futile. Trump has a lot of shortcomings. There's no doubt about that. But he's not the stupid monster the media depicts. His cabinet is especially full of excellent people. Rubio, Hegseth, Bondi, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Caine, just to name a few. According to the media, Gen. Caine for example, got his current job by kissing Trump's ass but in reality, he has proven to be one extraordinary appointment and the very best CJCS in recent years. He's also the total opposite of the CJCS in Trump's first term, the seemingly arrogant Gen. Milley.
I'd just like to point out that I was like all of you as well before. My interest in the military stuff gave me an opportunity to learn the truth but it was totally by accident. I didn't want to listen to people on the conservative side either and thought they were all uneducated. Turned out the stupid one was myself. So be aware of misinformation. As for insider trading... first of all, wow, talk about it as if the Dems had never done that?? They are all corrupt. Secondly, if you have followed military (and politics) news for a while, you'd know how to predict if some major event is going to happen just by gathering all the information of military elements movements you see from public information platforms. There're a lot of open source Intel handles on social media alone. Traders I think easily have access to the information they need, too. There were signs even a month or two before both the Venezuela hit and the Iranian conflict. Some people bet on random things like if Beckham would divorce Victoria, it's totally natural that countless more people bet on the Venezuela hit or the downfall of the Iranian regime. It was not obvious for you doesn't mean it's not obvious for other people🤣 I was even slightly surprised the strikes hadn't happened earlier judging from what I'd been following online🤣
This Trump administration has made a lot of financial cuts which have ultimately made Trump and his staff the enemies of many big companies and organizations. Those people are certainly doing everything they can to remove him from office, which apparently including controlling of the media. It's not hard to figure out. Finally, let me add one more thing - I deleted a similar comment the other day from another thread but now I am upset again seeing the above quote. Anyone opposing the removal of a dictatorship is either seriously brainwashed by the disgusting media or just ignorant. If you have never lived under a dictatorship, then you have no right to be against what the people from other countries desperately want, who have suffered under a regime like the Iranian one for decades. The Iranian regime, by the way, was one of the leading sponsors of terrorism in the world!! FFS.6 -
CAFC_CAT I watched Trump's speech live yesterday. He sounded mentally ill, talking about the beautiful sound of the ballroom being built and the 'beautiful ' drapes, whilst people are being killed and the world put into turmoil. He did not sound like a man who had just started a major war, just a senile old man.9

Can someone delete the political posts on this thread please, there’s to much sensible advice for it to be shut down. Sorry to make this request as I realise the unnecessary work that has to be undertaken because people can’t keep politics out of threads.5

You are correct but the owners of this forum have specifically stated no politics on more than one occasion. We are being effected by this probably more than most people on this site, but I still respect the owners wishes of no politics, something unfortunately you seem unable to do. I won’t reply anymore to your political rantings.ME14addick said:

I was referring to the press conference done by Hegseth and Caine. As for Trump's speech style... One of his shortcomings is that he can't compete with most of his predecessors in this regard bar perhaps Biden who was old and a sad sight to see. He's not a great speaker. But why focus on his lack of public speaking skills instead of what he is doing for the Americans? It's scratching the surface. You'd rather have a president who says the nicest thing but pushes for detrimental policies to the welfare of the citizens? It's really weird (and sad) that Western people voluntarily embrace the erosion of their own cultures...
As for the war, like I said, no one has the right to question the attack on the Iranian regime except Iranian people. Deliberately ignoring the turmoil BEFORE the attack when thousands and thousands of protesting people were being killed and literally begging for an international/US interference is IMHO disgusting double standard. Not to mention what those people have been suffering over the years before this round of volatility.
I'm not 100% pro Trump. I hate his policies on the Russian-Ukraine war. I view this very objectively and am merely pointing out the fact that you've been blinded by many years of brainwashing opinions. It'll never change unless you dig deeper and put your preconceptions aside for a bit. But I'm definitely wasting my time regarding the Trump issue. I made the above post only because I couldn't close this page without saying anything when I saw comments criticising the elimination of an evil evil regime.2 -
CAFC_CAT I have been delving deeper which is why I hold an opposing view to you.
I listened to Hegseth, Rubio, Vance and Trump, each of them gave a different reason for starting the war and a different end game, that's why I cannot take any of them seriously.
Gas & oil prices are soaring as they always do in a war. Nobody is going to be better off and safer because of this action.

That's how threads are shut down, by calling my views 'political rantings'. I merely pointed out that Trump appeared mentally unwell when he spoke yesterday. If you didn't hear the speech, it may help if you do.CharltonKerry said:

£125 for Mrs Chaz on max PBs and £25 again for me on half max. Jnr got £25 on his 20k or so. Shouldn’t complain but yet another £1m winner here in Merseyside which wasn’t one of us

Another month of bugger all on PBs - but that's not surprising as we divested our two max holdings to now hold just a grand each for a chance (remote) of winning one of the big ones!1

ME you were extremely nice to me in the past when I was still using my old account on here. And I will always be grateful for that. It makes me sad that you are blinded by the media and don't consider one iota the well-being of the people at the centre of this conflict. The word "nobody" suggests that Iranian people don't deserve to be "anybody" in this conversation. Nor do the neighboring countries threatened by Iran-supported terrorism for decades. Instead, oil prices are the things you are more worried about. Chilling...ME14addick said:CAFC_CAT I have been delving deeper which is why I hold an opposing view to you.

Gas & oil prices are soaring as they always do in a war. Nobody is going to be better off and safer because of this action. This is a matter of principal. If half of your people hold the same opinion as yours, ie. totally ignoring the Iran dictatorship, the ruthless killings, I really really have to leave this place. It is scary. And to the other poster, sorry I ruined your thread. I work in the financial industry as well. Politics is the most closely related topic to financial trading. I pointed out how to predict these major events by following useful information sources. I’m leaving right away so you can enjoy your investment discussions.👌1 -
