All things banksy still rising, same with stik, Mr doodle and Thierry Noir.
There is a saying in the Financial world of trading shares etc.  A saying that I chose to ignore on many ocassions as a young man to my detriment. Whether that will apply in the art world at some point I have no idea.

'Always leave a bit for the next man'.

In short don't be naive, complacent, or greedy  and take your profit.

If you keep them because they mean more than money fair enough.

I did that last year selling a piece for 17k which now sells for 30k +, only 10 months later :). Once I sell up, there's no way back in unless there's a serious crash. The prices I've paid, I can afford a pull back without losing money.

If you were happy at the time with your profit selling for 17K then you got it right. We all bemoan when having sold if it goes up further but it doesn't matter, you made a profit.

I bought BT years ago for just over a couple of quid. When the tech bubble was on the go they kept going up and I sold for just over £9, they went up further to over £12 I seem to remember, but I was happy with my profit. Not long after the bubble burst and they went back where they started.

You have been ahead of the game by tuning in to a specific holding of art work that is on the up trend. Believing in your own intuition has paid off.  Well done mate.

Yeah for sure, those funds then went into other artists. I've got a figure in mind where il be having a clear out so its not a completly blind wait.
  • I did alternative investment management (specialising in art) module at uni. I think that rising uncertainty in markets will lead to a rise in art/wine/classic car prices the same way gold rises. People have to store their wealth somewhere, and arguably a piece of art or a car is more stable than a stock market.
  • Having said all that, I couldn't believe some of the wank people were paying good money for. I hate the art world and the pretentious knobs in it.

Collectibles are going crazy atm, vintage toys, art etc are flying. The Asian Market has a lot of influence in Art prices right now.

I'm an artist and tbh have the same opinion.
Do you know any sites where you can check prices of prints?
  • Flat month for my equity portfolio, gain at just 0.5%. How did yours fare?

Down 0.5%. But overall happy with the position given all that is going on.
  • Good to see so many index predictor contestants. I will leave it open until Monday, so I can see what @WishIdStayedinthePub goes for, before committing myself :-) organiser’s perks.

in truth i’m very uncertain this time round, compared with the first round.
  • I think the outcome of the American election will have a bearing

Auction houses are good for previous results, websites for current stock id take a look at Prescription Art and Hang UP Gallery amongst others.

I think a bloody Chinese virus might have an influence as well, 🤞 for no major 2nd spike, first & foremost humanitarian reasons, thereafter an ever rising FTSE.

Similar. SIPP has stayed around the same since the start of the month. FTSE has remained in the 6000-6200 range although the S&P500 has reached it's all time high. As @PragueAddick said......tech stocks (Apple, Facebook, Amazon & Google make up around 20% of the Dow Jones).
  • Going optimistically for FTSE 100 to be 7200

    Thanks, Prague.

US election ramp and fade versus BrexIt brinkmanship. Shut down redundancies and second wave versus economies opening/vaccine hopes.  Could be anywhere!

Optimistic about 2021 but I suspect markets will be pessimistic about Brexit at 12:30pm on 31st December. 6232.

  • FTSE year end will be 6397

  • Right then here we go. I've gone for 6450, this time we have 24 punters and one IFA, all trying to beat the chimpanzees. The average, (consensus?) comes out at 6379, median almost the same at 6397. Here's the list, optimists first. I've got them in a spread so if anyone sees a mistake, do please shout.

  • Fingers crossed bobmunro wins.
The country could do with a lift.
  • @PragueAddick I've been buried in work - did I miss the Christmas throw a dart in the dartboard competition?  I had a quick scan and it didn't look like there were any takers.
    No you didn't miss anything

Who else is up for a new index predictor call, to end on last trading day of 2020?

New stipulation, choose whichever index you like, but only one index.

Lets close the call for entries on August 31....
Sorry @PragueAddick as you had said entries by close August 31 I hadn't been rushing to put an entry in.

If not too late, can I go for 5980.

All I can say looking at the other guesses is I had never realised how many optimists there are on here!
  • I agree with Blackpool in hoping Bobmunro is right.

Pissed off with Blackpool squeezing my prediction by 5 points.

I agree, I would be very happy to lose this.

Because so may people put their predictions in quickly I thought I might be giving myself too much extra time, so I brought it forward, but did post that I had done it - I think. Anyway, no worries, you are logged in.

Is there anyone you'd recommend to use to sell a print? I bought my daughter a Damien Hirst Souls II print 5 years ago and she's " bored of looking at it now". The gallery I bought it from in Brighton closed down a few years ago and although we've got a rough idea of how much it's worth she's got no idea of how to go about re-selling it nor how much commission she'd have to pay.
  • If you’re still taking bids @PragueAddick I’d being going at 5960.

Just see a lot of downside in the markets to keep the FTSE at current levels for a while yet. Potential for a couple of big needle movers make me feel more optimistic about 2021, but may be end of Q1 before we see those.

Sothebys, christies, forum auction, Philips de pury  are a good start. Check out there previous auction results and there commission rates
