He didn't see enough due deference and worship towards him and reacted.

Continual abuse of Roger Johnson will motivate me to attend.

I wonder if his language as a player could actually get him arrested. If he ambled through Bluewater using the language he does surely he would get done, it being a public place and all.

On the pitch at the Valley is a public place, with children usually being closest to the players, surely that wouldn't make him above the law of the land?

Is swearing in public a criminal offence?
    Yes.
Then why haven't I got a life sentence?
You have to swear in the presence of the police to be arrested. And they will do so only if they believe your swearing is causing annoyance to local residents.

So, maybe you're just not very good at it.
You can swear at a police officer and not commit an offence.

Jeez it's only 10.20. give them a chance.
Is that the time already, wtf is going on at the club this morning, where's this new signing Rusty promised us 'was nearly over the line' after the Bury game.

I doubt we’ll hear anything. Bouazza swore at us in a similarly abject loss at Blackpool in 2008. Nothing ever happened about that, at least externally.

I’d like to think that Slade will have taken Johnson aside to have a word. There’s little point turning it into a media story now as well.
  • It will and should be dealt with internally, There should be a suggestion of a public apology although cannot be enforced.
The reality is there is no evidence and that is what the player will point to if he wanted to be a complete arse. The fact of the matter is that his future in the first 11 is now over.

    Yes.
Then why haven't I got a life sentence? In fact, 95% of the population would be behind bars. Oh and furthermore, if a player could apparently be arrested for swearing in a public place, what about all the fans swearing at him from the stands, isn't that also a public place? Do they get arrested too?
S4/5 public order act. Look it up

Katie doesn't start work until half 10 either.

  • I personally felt the performance was so poor that I did not want to clap the players off.

Decided it was a more powerful gesture by refusing to clap them and shaking my head in disappointment towards them.

Cannot see the point of giving them verbal abuse.

No, pretending you are a professional footballer is....

I do have some sympathy for Roger Johnson (I'm safe in Denmark, at least). With ten minutes to go with Charlton attacking the Charlton supporters end, a number of the 'ultras' refused, on several occasions, to return the ball when it crossed the goal line, instead choosing to kick it into the stand. At ten minutes to go, Charlton were, at least, in the Bury half for significant periods, fashioning a couple of half chances. As a Charlton player, I would have been pretty pissed off.

ultras? what are you on about

I went to half a dozen away games last season, and each time I was deeply embarrassed by a section of our support at some point. I wouldn't call them ultras, but I think I roughly know who @c4fcdenmark is referring to.

That said, ValleyGary and co. insist nothing was particularly focussed toward Johnson, so it's still very hard to accept he had any right to say what he said.
Not been to so many away games the last few seasons, but the last one I was at (Bolton) there were some pretty spectacular morons within our fans giving it out to Pope and Fox. Sounds like it's getting more frequent.
We really have a proper Millwall-like element now that started a few years back.

I went to Preston away at the end of last season, there were about 300 CAFC fans. No vocal support whatsoever bar 4 complete pikeys off their face constantly screaming abuse at fellow fans, "SING UP YOU C**TS" - though only songs they 'sung' were incest song and 'Preston's a shithole'; our players "FOX YOU'RE A CUNT", "YOU'RE FUCKING SHIT MAKENIOK - F**K OFF MUG" etc etc, and the Preston keeper "I'M GONNA RAPE YOUR WIFE YOU C**T".

They'd come by free coach and were in my opinion more interested in provoking a reaction from Charlton fans, they knew everyone was trying to ignore them/getting pissed off with them. Really really unpleasant oxygen thieves. There was a middle-aged bloke (one of their dads?) in Stone Island clobber standing with them and scanning the crowd everytime they shouted abuse to see if there was a reaction.

With everything else going on, having vermin like this at games really is the icing on the cake!

If I ever heard that at a football game, I would seriously do the people some damage, no need for that in any walk of life. I would have also reported them to the police.

Calling a player names is one thing, threatening a sexual attack on a players wife is not even remotely acceptable.
Agree, but was there alone, and they along with the smirking meathead 'guarding' them would have done me more damage.

Smirking, stone island-clad, meathead - didn't need to be there to picture the guy.

They could do. But, in all probability, the police don't think it's worth it.

people are gonna be pissed off, 4 hours each way if going from the south east on trains and trams, a team that played woefully and some defender of very bad qaulity giving it to fans, fuck him hope he never wears the shirt again.

I have no problem with people flipping them the bird and giving them a telling off after a poor team performance.

    I just decided against it.

Exactly. Had the same problem after the Oldham game on a packed bus back to Manchester. These twats constantly singing the Lisbie and Ambrose songs to the obvious distress of local old ladies on the bus, but there was just me and my brother, and 10-15 of them, and I am not NLA. Still pissed off with myself that I didn't do anything, but it only takes one blade.
Nothing but trouble these Sheffield United fans....

Wonder what it'll be like on Saturday if he plays? You've got to think that the vast majority will be oblivious to this?
  • i sent a few tweets out after the game and all were getting retweeted by brum fans anyone know why?.
  • but it only takes one blade.

I think I might have put that better :-)

They are still jealous that we got Johnson and they're stuck with Morrison... Maybe not

You would have thought members of the FA Council might have read the bit in the Respect Charter about players showing dignity in defeat,
