I can understand him being pissed off .. as soon as the first goal went in the shouts of 'we want Roland out' started .. it would have been far better for the 'fans' to have shouted encouragement as up until then, although having been outplayed, the team was hanging in there ..
I thought that CARD had declared a truce for a month .. is that not so ? .. too many who turned up on Saturday were looking for an excuse to 'protest' ..
Johnson was unwise to do what he did (I didn't see nor hear it) but after a very physical and demanding game I can understand his frustration .. AND incidentally, Johnson's performance was not too bad ..

F F S give the man and the team some leeway for a few games

...against Bury.....in the third division......where do I buy a season ticket again? show me, show me
Then don't bother buying until we're back in the premier .. fair weather fan, keep away until then we don't need your whinging and whining .. We're in the third strata playing 3rd strata teams .. get with the team and behind the club or go shopping with mummy on match days
Does RD prefer you to spit or swallow?
    fuck you you little tosser
    Hahahahahahaha grow up
  • @Henry Irving and @LuckyReds .. call that abuse ? .. hahahahah .. what a couple of silly wallies you are

Not sure if it was abusive or simply too stupid to waste effort on actually replying to tbh mate. So I flagged it rather than waste my time.
  • @Lincsaddick usually i find us agreeing but that was an absolute shambles the weekend, i know your a bit up north compared to us but 4 hours in each direction to watch that, im not saying i expect us to win every game but at least fucking try, and the way i see it you pays your money you can moan about whatever you want without being offensive, as lots have said roger wasnt singled out they were shit and the performance was shit, what does he expect us all to be happy with being outplayed by 2nd favourites for the drop, its a shame the team couldnt perform and he had to stoop to abusing the good fans that travelled as i dont think we will get that attendance in a further afield away game this season, cheers roland and team for ruining what could of been a very enjoyable day out.

So it's OK to tell people they are a "fair weather fan" and to "Keep away" or to tell them to "go shopping with "mummy" Weird (meaning weird)

fair enough .. we have people who presumably weren't at the game making comments about something they're not interested in because they have decided not to go to games .. were you at Bury and did you hear Johnson's supposed insults to our fragile fans ? .. if so then I withdraw my comment about you being a wally .. I'll change it to insulting dickhead

Thing is I disagree with your fundamental opinion that the team didn't try but agree that the set up and selection was a bit shambolic .. so we 1/2 agree ..
in my opinion, the team did try hard enough .. the facts (as I see tem) are: that the team was inferior on the day to the Bury team, I think that the team was badly selected and we were overpowered by a more prepared and settled outfit .. I just do not agree that the CAFC players who turned out last Saturday didn't try, care or give a toss .. they did have a go and they lost .. and as has been said on here by a few, including me, if fans can give dogs abuse to the players, then they should be able to take a bit back .. f f s I can understand a few children possibly being upset by bad language, but grown men and women at a football match ?? .. do me a favour ..

The fundamental difference between the give it/take it argument is that Roger Johnson is being paid to wear the shirt that all 1100 Charlton fans, there to support the team, love and adore.

Perhaps 'RoJo' should learn to simply like the fans and club he's meant to be representing, and he'll be liked in return.

Not only that but Johnson didn't get any stick to begin with, he only heard the groans and frustration of the away following, at another shite collective performance.

The give it/take it argument should only really apply to players of opposing teams. Players we aren't meant to have an affiliation with.

I agree that the team didn't mean to be useless by intent.

However what has struck a chord with me isn't the generalisation of 'dogs abuse' going one way and t'other, it is what was actually said. The words and sentiment behind them.

'If you don't ******* like it, don't come'.

Pretty specific. Not part of a tit for tat exchange 'you're a dick', 'you're a bigger dick', which might be interpreted as the rough and tumble exchange of pugnacious banter, not that at all.

Have you considered what this means, and do you think in any context that is the right sentiment a player should express to fans?

i remember some time back a charlton fan ranting after the england iceland game, and we all agreed he was quite correct, wayne rooney in south africa after the draw with algeria said its nice for your fans to boo you - on both accounts were the england players not trying?, im not offended by him just think hes a professional footballer - im not a professional fan, and call me a fair weather fan but if they turned out like that everyweek i wouldnt attend as i work hard for a living to have some wanker that calls himself a professional footballer shout and swear at me ( as a charlton fan ) or customers in the words of the ceo.

  • very relevant and accurate comments .. as I typed above, I think Johnson was out of order .. BUT .. he did it in the heat of the moment and in frustration .. the reactions on here are misplaced, OTT and YES, I know we are all entitled to an opinion ..
@ValleyGary I believe that you've played the game at a decent level, if you tell me that you have never ever said or done untoward things during or after a game I will write to the Pope and recommend you be renamed St Gary of the Divine Valley

Fully appreciate 'in the heat of the moment' reactions - ie in the game - but he had enough time to collect himself after the whistle. In my view this just indicates stupidity and/or arrogance beyond belief. If he was so angry and had a sliver of common sense then he would have just marched off the pitch and down the tunnel. But, as we know, he possesses neither, and, sadly, no real skill either.
