You're right, plenty of sub-5k gates at Upton Park. Was thinking specifically of it being lowest crowd at The Valley since before Selhurst.letthegoodtimesroll said:
Surely the crowds at Upton Park were pretty low as well. I'm no doubt wrong but I thought there were only 3 or 4 thousand of us turning up there for most matchesMrLargo said:
Must be pre-Selhurst, so at least 31 years. Another impressive stat for Katrien's LinkedIn profile.LargeAddick said:Lowest Saturday crowd for how long I wonder?

Yep, it's a fantastic feeling to compare our crowds in our wonderful stadium with an owner worth over €500m with what was our 6th season with no home and no money :-)letthegoodtimesroll said:

We had a home during those 6 years, it's just that like West Ham today we were renting it.0

Must be lowest fa cup attendance since 1920s or ever?0

Yesterday's turnout was probably more a reflection of poor performances by Charlton teams in recent years than it was an anti-regime thing. FA Cup apathy set it long ago at the Valley. I doubt none of us really expected that result or performance. If we get a home tie in the next round then the gate for that will be the one to watch because we now expect a strong team will be fielded by Russell and it to deliver a better performance and an attempt to win the game. If the crowd is still that low for that game then people can claim it will be down to the regime.7

I agree. I mean, we haven't even reached the quarter-finals since 2014 . . .letthegoodtimesroll said:Yesterday's turnout was probably more a reflection of poor performances by Charlton teams in recent years than it was an anti-regime thing. November 30th, 1927 - first round replay against Merthyr Town was watched by 3,875 at The Valley. That appears to be the only lower FA crowd to watch Charlton in a home FA Cup tie since they joined the League in 1921. That was played on a Wednesday afternoon, when most people will have been at work!kentred2 said:Must be lowest fa cup attendance since 1920s or ever?

And I doubt if many Merthyr fans were in the crowd, so it is probably safe to say the number of Addicks present on 5th November 2016 was even lower than in 1927.Airman Brown said:

Not sure we actually won any games at home in that cup run, anybody remember for sure ?0 -
Know it's not available but would be interested in the breakdown of ages of those there yesterday. The couple of crowd pics I've seen shows a high weighting of Over 55s.0
-
Didn't lose any, either. We were only drawn at home once, against Oxford, which was called off and played as an evening match.1

And what's your problem with the over 55s?AFKABartram said:Know it's not available but would be interested in the breakdown of ages of those there yesterday. The couple of crowd pics I've seen shows a high weighting of Over 55s.
Do you want to say that to my face?
There were a lot of youth in their Adidas originals in the Lib and quite a few kids where I was siting too.
Typical ageist comment from CARD who hate everyone ; - )1 -
How can we possibly be trying to compare yesterday's attendance with games that were played at Selhurst Park or Upton Park? No comparison is possible. Back then we were without a home and seemingly without a future and still the loyal fans stuck with the club and our away support was a hell of a lot better that it is now. We have been back at The Valley for 24 years. The years after our return all saw increases in the fanbase culminating in the years of sold out home games in the Prem. What has been done to our club by the shit owners that we have presently cannot be compared to the years before our return.16

Agreed. The only comparison would be our if RD took us from The Valley to share with Palace or Millwall now. When we shared with Palace and West Ham our numbers were, in effect, an away following. Imagine how many would do the same now...E-cafc said:How can we possibly be trying to compare yesterday's attendance with games that were played at Selhurst Park or Upton Park? Thank you to everyone who took part in my mini survey. Here are the results:
Q1. Did you attend the Charlton v Scunthorpe game?
Q2. If you did attend, what were your main reasons? (Please tick any reasons that apply)
The majority of fans gave reasons of loyalty or habit for attending the game. There is clearly still a strong attachment that many feel to the club. Some seemed interested particularly in this game, 19% sating that a consideration was because we might win, whilst were keeping up unbroken attendance patterns. Only one person who attended did so because they thought it might be entertaining. Thats half the number that attended because they wanted to give their support to the regime. Perhaps the most enlightening figures were the options that no-one selected. No-one went because they are enjoying the current Charlton experience - a clear sign on Roland's failure and Meire's incompetence if ever their was one. No-one went to sample the facilities - take note KM, nobody cares about this stuff; it's about the football. Of the four people who added their own reasons to the list, three stated that they went because it was cheap whilst one said that they had nothing else to do.
Q3. If you didn't attend, why not? (Please tick any reasons that apply)
Of those who didn't attend the runaway leader was because people have issues with the regime and/or are actively boycotting. 20% said that there feel no affinity with the team. Next up were more general reason with 14% stating that they are bored with football generally and 12% stating that the FA Cup has lost its magic. One person was put off by the protests, whilst four didn't attend because their friends weren't attending. There were two added reasons for people not attending. One bought a bottle of rum instead. One went to see Dartford. I don't think it was the same person.
Q4. Who do you consider is culpable for the low attendance? (Please tick all that apply)
Katrien Meire headed up the list of culprits, 82% considering her as contributing to the low attendance. So much for the success of your T20K group, Daisy. Meire just pipped the absentee owner to the top of the list 79% considering him at least partially culpable. Interestingly, despite the identified poor football at Charlton and the lack of enthusiasm for the FA Cup, Keohane outstripped both the FA and Russell Slade, to take up the position of third most culpable. Those bully boy goons of yours and the engagement of the cops have a lot to answer for, Tony. Three people stated that CARD were partly culpable, whilst three pointed fingers at other fans calling for a boycott. Two additional responses, one jointly blaming RD, KM and TK and one stating that its due to the FA Cup's fall from grace.
Q5. Who do you consider is the most culpable for the low attendance? (Please tick only one)
The final question asked who was most to blame. Our incompetent CEO takes most of the blame here 54% thinking she is the biggest reason for the low crowd. 35% put the blame of Duchatelet's shoulders. A handful of other culprits were stated. But the overwhelming feeling is that it is the incompetent one and the absent one who are to blame for this mess.5 -
Bloody hell Stig. You'll be telling us the Pope's catholic next1
