He wouldn't be my choice at all .. he's just been sacked as a failure, and yes, it happens to most managers at some point in their careers, but there is just something intangible that tells me he will/would not be a success at CAFC ..
IF IF Nugent could be persuaded to take the job, he would be my choice .. Slade might have laid the foundations, but these last two wins will prove just not mere flashes in the pan .. Nugent knows the players, seems to have got their confidence and has worked out how to get the best from them, something which Slade could not do despite making some good signings
PLEASE MEIRE .. DO NOT APPONT ROBINSON4 -
I just don't see how you can see Robinson is not the man for the job yet Nugent is what experience does he have?Lincsaddick said:He wouldn't be my choice at all .. he's just been sacked as a failure, and yes, it happens to most managers at some point in their careers, but there is just something intangible that tells me he will/would not be a success at CAFC ..

Everyone talks about Robinsons motives behind coming here yet Nugent walked into a job here when the circumstances were exactly the same?5 -
There is this overwhelming support for Nugent and based on the last two games rightly however Nugent has publicly stated he doesn't want the role but wants to stay on which is the right thing to do as he knows the players.
Sadly I think the fall of Slade possibly could have been the players, they are playing with more passion and a smile on their face and unfortunately may have not liked what Slade did in training or set up within a structure.
The players would be in the knowledge bad results and performances would get him the boot and is not uncommon in this current climate of the modern day footballer.

Tosh .. Nugent was Slade's assistant and came in at a bad time for the club .. he's been here all through the team rebuilding process ..cafc_se7 said:

what role he had in selecting players to be newly signed or selected is unknown .. what is clear to me is that after two games Nugent has got the players motivated and performing, something which Slade seemed to be incapable of doing on a consistent level ..
It looks as though Robinson will be the new manager and he takes over a side that Nugent has improved beyond measure in just two games .. an entirely different circumstance to that which Nugent undertook earlier in the year
I wish Robinson all the very best, of course I do, I am a Charlton fan through and through .. just that at this moment, I would have preferred it if Nugent had been given the job so as to carry on the excellent job he's done so far3 -

Unfortunately no manager at this club has had the benefit of backing and resources from the owner.Billericay Dickie said:I believe that Karl Robinson could be the perfect manager at Charlton.
I think that at the right club he could turn into one hell of a manager, potentially another Curbs in the making.
He certainly did OK for MK Dons. Working with one of the smallest budgets his teams always punched above their weight. OK they got relegated last season but that was inevitable with the quality of some of the championship teams.
Given the backing and the resources I reckon he could motivate a team to do very well, however this is Charlton that we are talking about. Will Roland ever give any manager the backing and the time to get things right?
If Robinson gets the job I will back him because the current madness at the Valley has to stop and the club needs to concentrate on getting back to the Championship.
I like him, as manager, more than Slade but as Robinson knows, we are a "basket case of a club " and he has taken the job in the full knowledge of this. As such I can't believe his heart is in it.
l'll give him 3 months, the prat that owns the club can't help himself, this won't be the last manager we have under him.0 -
Think people are placing way too much stock in 2 results achieved by Nugent.
The Port Vale performance mirrored the one away at Vale Park earlier in the season with the exception at home we got the second goal when on top.
Last night was a good win, but... 3 deflected goals and the opposition down to 10 men due to a injury after all their subs had been used.
Hardly a Pep Guardiola rivalling CV is it?7 -

"We" should be patient.
"We" should stick together.
You get on with your job if you take it and stop telling us what we should do.
We're the fucking customers, you know.3 -
I don't think now is the time to be trying to persuade someone to take the job who's never been a full time manager and doesn't want to be our manager.Lincsaddick said:He wouldn't be my choice at all .. he's just been sacked as a failure, and yes, it happens to most managers at some point in their careers, but there is just something intangible that tells me he will/would not be a success at CAFC ..

We need someone to try and get us out of this shit division. I'd be perfectly happy for Robinson AND Nugent to be the men working together to do that.7 -
That's a bit unlikely isn't it. Easter is really late in March this year. Be fired well before then if the regime by some chance has failed to learn from its mistakes.Todds_right_hook said:
Beating AFC Wimbledon is a success in this guys eyes. That's why I hate them so much. Because of Roland and what he has done to charlton, I don't care who we appoint or what the manager has done previously. Paddy's went in via the keeper (and should have been saved) and I'm pretty sure Chicksen's was deflected too.Todds_right_hook said:

Nothing wrong with that, those are the fine margins by which most football matches are won/lost/drawn - if Slade had had a bit more of that luck (for example not missing all those penalties) we'd be comfortably in the play-offs and not even having to discuss a new manager.
Point is - two wins does not exactly prove that Nugent is the new Curbs and should automatically be given a 5 year contract.0 -
So you want us to turn down Robinson and then try and persuade Nugent, who has never been a manager, to become manager, even though he has said he doesn't want to be the manager ?Lincsaddick said:He wouldn't be my choice at all .. he's just been sacked as a failure, and yes, it happens to most managers at some point in their careers, but there is just something intangible that tells me he will/would not be a success at CAFC ..

Oh and if we turn Robinson away and persuade Nugent. Will you still have the same opinion if we lose our next 5 games ?
I understand what you are saying, but you are basing that on 2 games.

Living near MK I have seen a lot of media coverage on MK Dons and Karl Robinson and I have to say I like him and believe under normal circumstances would be a good appointment and probably the best available. Unfortunately the hatred directed towards the owner is also affecting people's views of others like managers and players. I hate the owners and am currently boycotting despite. 45 year love affair with the club but I still want the team to do well and want a good young English manager in charge - o hang on a minute !
I don't get this opinion that he has been a failure, all managers lose there job at sometime and often because they have over achieved at the club they are at and ultimately pay the price and I believe that's the case for Robinson getting a small club like MK up to the championship on limited resources and no training ground was a great achievement
People say he is arrogant I just don't see it that's not how I have seen him come across. So he managed the franchise so what, he is a young manager who needs to work and will see Charlton a great opportunity if you get it right like many others. I can't think of a better appointment if he gets it and we should think ourself lucky to get him because it will be despite our owners not because of. He is a young highly regarded English manager who try's to play the game the right way and big clubs seem happy to loan players to him so if he gets the job I for one will support him and who knows might even start attending games again starting at M K Dons on Boxing Day11 -

Bit harsh. I'm 52 grew up in South London and like many understand the whole Wimbledon / MK thing. However I moved up to Cambridgshire 25 years ago and now live 40 mins from Milton Keynes. For kids growing up in and around the area it is there local football club why wouldn't you support them. They are a well run club with a terrific owner in Pete Winkleman and probably the best stadium outside the top league (Newcastle aside) and Winklman with Karl Robinson put MK on the map and started to create their own history. The Wimbledon story was a sorry one but the fault of this generationNomadicAddick said:

Really? It's different, certainly, but I can't see that it's better than Villa Park, Bramall Lane, Molineux, The Amex, Pride Park and any number of others, including The Valley (although I may be biased on the last one).AddickedAthletic said:

Villa Park is an impressive stadium for sure. Not quite in the same league as the Valley though.0

I meant as in a new modern stadium with great facilities so granted Brighton and Derby but Villa Park come on great in its day but now? and Brammel is big but good I don't think soAirman Brown said:.

Winkleman has spent a fortune on Stadium MK, but has run the football side with a tight and prudent budget, so their ground is far too big for them, which ruins the atmosphere
I'm not sure the occasional concerts held there are enough reason for producing such a large ground.
It's not helped by shoving away fans in the upper tier, which makes the ground look even emptier!

Really don't want Robinson particularly if he is making noises about calling off the protests. It's not going to happen.1
