  • I can’t see it happening but I’m rather hoping now that KR either resigns or goes to Oxford. It would be priceless to see the reaction and incredulity of the football world as Charlton soldier on without a CEO, Chief Finance Officer and team manager. Laughing stock might niggle with RD.

The next step will be to reduce the size of the team and squad - RD will take over managing and play a 4 1 1 formation with his team of 7. We'll still lose but will save on salary.

It doesn't seem to have bothered him for the last 4 years.
  • I'd forgotten this brilliant Robinson quote from after the Peterboro' game:

“I’ve said if you don’t think you can achieve it then please tell me now. If you don’t believe, just go home. Don’t bother. You have can the next six weeks off, we’ll pay you. We’ll pay you over if you don’t think you can achieve something."

Looks like they didn't go home, but they certainly didn't bother.
  • He has accepted blame for last night. Now those who have been asking for him to accept blame should be happy on that front.

    I'm over the moon
  • The season is over. He will not be sacked ( and cost money) until new owners take over and start again. I would like to hear his views on what looks one of the best squads in the League being so poor in its performances.
Any new owner must be concerned now, what are they buying.
A demoralised club ( including supporters) at least there is scope for improvement.

He accepts the blame after every game. There is a common denominator here ...HIM- he is the problem when it comes to on the pitch matters.

It is just when he does, he doesn't really.

    But has he taken responsibility?

"I have to take responsibility - I am the manager. We wanted to make some tactical substitutions with 20 minutes to go but we lost Pagey and Sols through injury, and Pearcey was struggling too, so we couldn't make the changes we wanted to."

I'm responsible, but it's not really my fault, it was the injuries.

The defeat is my fault because I am the Manager. We took the plaudits at the start of the season and now I have to take this criticism. Would any manager be able to deal with the number of injuries we have?

It's definitely my fault, but is it actually my fault? Or is it the injuries?

"The players are all very disappointed - I saw all of their faces in the dressing room - but, as the manager, I have the take responsibility for the defeat."

Technically speaking, I am responsible. But look at the players, look at their bored, lazy, overpaid faces. Maybe it's the players' fault.

Karl, let me explain this to you. Ultimately it's Roland's fault. No one can succeed under him. But you turned up, crawled up to him and Katrien, waffled on about how happy you were with our summer transfer window after we signed Joseph Dodoo, and now we're predictably crap and you've got neither the personality nor the tactical nous to do anything about it.

And yes, we have had a lot of injuries. But if getting your players to turn out in pre-season friendlies on 3 consecutive days is an indicator of your general fitness management programme, then it probably is your fault that half the squad can barely stand up.

Please, please, please just shut up and be quiet for a few weeks. I can handle the defeats, I'm used to that. But listening to you talk makes me want to bury my head in a bucket of quick-setting concrete.
I think this is fair - it is very hard to succeed under Roland which is why many of us will do what we can to get him out. But I don't think that fact absolves Robbo totally of blame. He can try different things, but continues to flog a dead horse in terms of his system. If you try and fail, at least you have tried.

    whelmed...
  • Karl wants the takeover to happen to get a pay off to walk into another job on a similar salary and a signing on fee

I think any of us in whatever industry would do the same.
  • Has he been sacked yet

He can drive himself there. He has a car.
  • He has accepted blame for last night. Now those who have been asking for him to accept blame should be happy on that front.

does that mean he's having the next 6 weeks off?
  • The only chance we have of promotion is a new manager who might shake things up. Could be JJ, could be Euell, it is a slim chance whatever, but we have absolutely no chance with Robinson - he is far too rigid tactically. We have trouble scoring goals yet he doesn't really try to address it - if he tried and failed I wouldn't criticise but he just keeps palying the same way.

I actually think Magennis is a terrific player at this level who could play in the Championship, but he has been given a role that doesn't suit his game and it has destroyed his confidence. He is too easy to isolate and even if he wins a header, there is nobody playing off him to capitalise. This has been evident for a long time, yet we do absolutely nothing to address the issue!

Bang on the nail!! Feel sorry for him, totally isolated up front and while KR keeps playing this system nothing will change.

He won't walk and he won't be sacked whilst the current owner is still here. No point carrying on about that sadly but whilst he talks a good game, he knows deep down that is not rated by now the majority of Charlton fans.

The Prostate Cancer quiz night 2 days after the Shrewsbury home defeat summed it up for me. Scott Minto thanked everyone for coming and then went on about what a fantastic job Robinson has done at the football club with what is going off the pitch and how it makes his role more difficult.

A round of applause? A few cheers of well done?

    Nothing.
Total silence for a few seconds until one fella shouted out "Love you Karl"

200 plus people in that room and no one applauded him. His heart must have sunk to realise that you are not rated by your own fans.

There was a smattering of applause. Still embarrassing though. It was the exact opposite of Henry's Bromley Addicks meet where he was walking on water; and how long ago was that? It's all about results.

    Why we can't play 442

Charlton boss Karl Robinson explains difficulty in changing 4-2-3-1 formation

Charlton boss Karl Robinson says he can’t start with two strikers because they are not fit enough.

Addicks fans have been pleading with Robinson to change his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

Michal Zyro and Nicky Ajose have been starved of first-team football this season, leaving the Liverpudlian with Josh Magennis as his only viable number nine option.

He stuck to his 4-2-3-1 line-up in the defeat to Blackpool on Tuesday evening, the club’s third reverse in a row.

Robinson said: “People talk about playing two up front, but we don't really have two strikers fit enough to start. Zyro is more of a winger than a striker.

“You’d love to change it to chase a game with ten or 15 minutes to go, but people will say ‘bring Nicky on’ but we’ve brought Nicky on and not much has changed. He still needs to get fit.

“He’s barely played any football this season. Tactically, I very rarely get many things wrong in relation to that.

“It was weird on Tuesday, we made two substitutions because of injuries. We had Pearcey [Jason Pearce] carrying an injury, Zyro and Reevesy [Ben Reeves] weren't meant to complete 90 minutes and so I only had one substitution left.

“That’s why we waited so long to make that substitution. None of our substitutions were to go and win it against Blackpool, it was protection mode. That’s a bit unfair to be judged on that.

“I made a mistake [with my substitutes] against Oxford, I admitted to that. We’ve generally made positive substitutions and I’m very proud of the staff for what they're all trying to do. It’s been difficult. But we've needed strikers since the first of June last year.”

Robinson believes he has been flexible with his formation changes in recent games.

The Addicks transitioned into a 4-3-3 shape in the second-half of their 4-1 loss at Peterborough last weekend.

Robinson added: “People talk about tactics, if you look at our last four games, we've actually gone though four different systems, 4-2-3-1, 4-1-4-1, 4-4-2 or 4-4-2 narrow.

“But people don't always see that during the game. I think if you look against Peterborough, we started at 4-2-3-1 and spun it to 4-4-3, we pushed Ez [Ezri Konsa] to sit and pushed Jake [Forster-Caskey] with Reevesy to play them a little bit higher.

“And in the first five, ten minutes of the second-half, we started getting a foothold in the game because of the change. But it’s fine, I respect what people say.”

    We've needed Strikers since June...

So why sign two more wingers in January and loan out Ahearne-Grant then??? - Instead he played KAG as a Winger too and got nothing out of him... KAG goes to Crawley, plays as a Striker and scores goals!!

Also its more than just bringing Nicky on for 10-15mins as he's not getting a chance to affect the game (We saw that with Karlan) - Instead start him, get the goals we need and then sub him off to protect the lead rather than doing the opposite!!

Not to mention Ajose hasnt done much when he's come on because he's being put in the No. 10 role BEHIND Magennis rather than as a Striker and so alongside him!!
