Honeymoon Advice

Thinking of destinations for a honeymoon, Sept 2017...
Any suggestions? Companies to use?

Ideally would like to go somewhere it's unlikely we will go again, without paying 4/5k each as some people have!! However as September, South America seems to be ruled out. Went Mexico one Sept, and it rained 11 of the 14 days!!!

  • I've always wanted to explore the Pacific Islands. It really does look like paradise....
  • Used Destinolgy Tavel agent for ours Mauritius and Dubai. No culture. Just pure relaxation. Just what was needed.

    Was October and no rain.
  • I went in September on mine, Dubai for 3 nights then flew down to Mauritius for 14 nights. Superb! I always use Travelbag.
  • Thanks @cabbie8 was looking at that

41 quid a night Premier inn , walls are a bit thin, but if you can keep the noise down you'll be all right.
  • September is one of the best times to go close to home but out of season.

I would suggest Spain or south of France.

Probably not North Africa unless you can check to ensure you aren't there in ramadan.

Further afield, in Thailand you could consider ko Tao and you should be early enough to avoid monsoon.

    Early September should be good.

Pacific islands I'd suggest avoiding the main Fiji island as when I was there around that time the clouds and rain congregated over the mountain and then the resorts. Small islands around though were superb. May be a bit cold in September, depends if you plan for the start or the end.

Were in Mauritius in October, fantastic weather, paradise island and great for exploring if you like to get off the resort. Honeymooned in Aruba & Curaçao last July but I think your time of year may rule them out.
  • Don't get married, problem solved
  • If Skegness is all booked up then the Cyclades, will still be hot but winding down at that time... Naxos, Paros, Ios and Santorini are all a short ferry trip apart, with stunning beaches and great food
  • Depends on what you want to do? If you are adventurous I would do a train journey across Asia. If you want beaches check out Philippines or Vietnam, less busy and cheaper than Thailand.

I would spend a few days in Dubai on the way back, great for shopping and all the new theme parks are amazing.

We did Jamaica (no she came willingly etc etc) for ours at the end of September/beginning of October and it was great. A daily downpour for an hour but otherwise wall to walk sunshine. Did a two centre thing at Negril and Ocho Reos. I'd recommend it although it was 26 years ago so may well have changed beyond recognition. Still married too.
  • We went to Cambodia, and loved it.
  • Cheers all. Didn't think of Jamaica!
  • Jokes aside; I'd go somewhere like Norway. Sod all these exotic places

  • Take her up the Grand Canyon

.....you can do that in Norway
  • Cornwall, wedding and honeymoon all in one go, lovely scenery, good food and the ale wasn't to bad either.

Barbados, St Lucia, Dominican Republic etc, might be worth considering the Caribbean, though isn't it hurricane season at the time you want to go?
  • I had my honeymoon this time last year. Went to Ecuador, spent a week in the Amazon rainforest followed by a week in the Galapagos Islands.

Loved every minute of it! Definitely meets the criteria of somewhere I'm unlikely to go again (but perhaps not the budget you mentioned!)
  • We went to Russia (St Petersburg and Moscow) and it was brilliant. Odd choice maybe, but the idea was if we were going to have a travel agency organise something for us we should go somewhere that needs a Visa etc. You might want to apply that logic.
  • My honeymoon was 3 nights in Vegas, 2 nights in LA, 2 weeks in Hawai'i and 2 nights in San Francisco and it was perfect.

If you go for Hawai'i head to the island of Kauai - The Garden Island. Prettiest of the lot and far less commercialised than Big Island which is similar to Benidorm!

It wasn't cheap but the weather was fantastic, lots to see and do and it was truly unforgettable
  • Closer to home - Sorrento, Capri, the Amalfi coast in Italy. Would be lovely in September.

Further afield - Hawaii. Maui a beautiful romantic place. Oahu (Honolulu +) a bit livelier but lovely.
  • The Bejaya Hotel on the island of Lankawi Malaysia.
White sand - hot sun and the Jungle as a back stop, honeymoon paradise.
For a bit of culture you could stop over at Georgetown on the island of Penang.
On the way back visit Singapore.
  • Four nights in April 1987 at a country house hotel opposite Rydal Water in the Lake District. Right next to Rydal Mount and the daffodils in Dora's Field were in full bloom.

Absolutely magical - where did it all go wrong? (joke - I love her as much if not more now).

    Cuba is worth considering.

It is a bit cheaper than other carribean destinations - beautiful beaches - There is a place we have gone for the last couple of years where you get a deal with Ice Lolly, then pay at the resort to upgrade to V.I.P. Always look for a resort with V.I.P. option - it is fantastic. This basically gives you a massive pool with swim up bar virtually to yourself, decent room with good a/c, fridge that is re-stocked daily, and access to a V.I.P pub serving branded drinks as well as all the other facilities.

Internet is rubbish - you can buy cards quite cheaply for an hours acces,. I listened to us getting beat at Bury there on Player. so you don't lose track but you can relax a bit too doing what you might want to do on honeymoon. I jumped in teh pool after teh Bury defeat and had a nice cold beer in my extra large Bubba cup!

Another good thing about Cuba is that you change your money in the hotel - the government sets the rate so it is the same wherever. This means you take English money and change as you need!
