I am not keen on Bohemian Rhapsody particularly, but I was around when it was released, and always thought it was supposed to be ironic and overblown from the start, I have never believed that Queen thought it was in any way serious music, but made at the time for pub/karaoke singers and air guitarists. It is easy to hate for being an exploitative money spinner, but less easy to hate because Queen were trying to present it as great music, which it isn't, and they weren't.
Don't Stop Believin' - Journey. I've never been able to understand why so many people seem to like it.
Id never heard of it to be honest until the end of Sopranos
For that reason its in my fav songs playlist as it was the best programme id ever watched.
To be honest there are loads of songs in this thread in my Fav songs playlist, but its normally from memories at that point in my life rather than the actual song.
Nothing has me scrambling for the emergency off button faster than when "You're gorgeous" by Babybird comes on the radio. Probably not a great... but seems popular. That and Louis Armstrong with "We have all the time in the world". And a few others have already been mentioned, like brown eyed girl and American pie
I don't understand it when some people claim that the likes of Jay Z or Kanye West are 'geniuses'. And they do it in a way as if to say 'ah because you're not on the right wavelength to grasp what they're doing, that's why you don't see it'
I've never got the 'greatness' around those two, not one bit. And I don't hate rap music.
Agree, compare anything that Jay-z or Kanye have done compared to Evidence of Dilated Peoples, Tech Nine, Phonte, some of Nas, Big K.R.I.T.
Big K.R.I.T - "The Vent" to me is the song I would use to introduce someone to the other side of hip hop. pure class
Almost all Elvis. Just sounds like a comedy singing voice. Any voice that can be impersonated down the pub after a few is a shit singing voice.
You've lost that loving feeling. God awful song. Don't know (or care) who wrote or sang this but pure shite.
Agree with Bohemian Rhapsody. Massively over rated.
God yeah, he only inspired John Lennon, James Brown, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, and countless others.
For the record (excuse the pun) It was Phil Spector
I'm not sure if I agree about Presley influencing James Brown. They liked each other a great deal, and Brown attended Presley's funeral. I can't hear the Presley influence on Brown. I can hear Brown's influence on Presley during Brown's funk era, just as you could hear the influence of the Stax sound on Presley (Presley would record at Stax, but bring his own entourage; the only Stax musician he used was the great Eddie Hinton on guitar). James Brown would be my Mastermind specialist subject, by the way.
You know that Adele that you've got nowadays? Sounds like shouting to me. When she sings, it's shouting. You know that heartfelt soulful cresendo? Shouting.
The Fugees. Especially Killing me softly. Load of clap trap. Amy Winehouse made my ears bleed. Rod Stewart. Rubbish. Absolutely bloody awful in fact.
Nail. On. Head
And his whole celtic thing as well. Your music's shit, p*** off, and I don't care that you've got a football pitch in your back garden. Can't stand his music

Never liked Stairway to Heavan myself.

Love Amy and Fugees are good too IMHO but Rod? Right up there with Van as best British male soul voice
