Peter Perrett at Islington Assembly Halls last night was amazingly good. His son Jamie is superb on guitar and they have the great John Cowsill on drums. Mixture of Only Ones classics and stuff from his excellent new LP. PP in great voice.
My first gig of the year was on Monday, the Spanish band Hinds at Concorde 2 in Brighton. They were enormous fun - they're playing the Electric Ballroom in Camden on Tuesday.
More coming up this week - Personal Trainer at the Dome in Tufnell Park (not been there for about 30 years!) on Wednesday, the Bug Club at the Electric Ballroom on Thursday.
As I knew (only decided to go last minute). Kasabian without Tom, is like Oasis without Liam. It’s got no attitude or swagger. Just Serge prancing around singing when he felt like it, which wasn’t enough. The audience sang more than him. 9/10 for the audience, 7/10 for Kasabian.
I saw Junodream at Electric Brixton last night. I went on a friend's recommendation and thought they were excellent, playing their biggest gig to date.
Note: I took pictures when the lighting was either red or white, and definitely not when it was red and blue.
State Champs at the Forum last night. Accompanied my daughter, not really my thing, but they are very good at what they do. Just a shame they are followed by a load of wankers. Daughter took an elbow to the side of the head when a fight broke out in the most pit and the security waded in to break it up.......and the less said about the much hyped support band (The Home Team) the better......utter shit.
Personal Trainer at the Dome in Tufnell Park on Wednesday were great - strange to be in that venue for the first time in about 30 years but good to see it back in use again.
The Bug Club at the Electric Ballroom were great fun, but it was a strange crowd - a little band of hyped-up mosh-pit idiots doing their best to barge into everyone else. I nipped to the back for the encore and it looked like it might have got a bit nasty towards the end.
I went to see Black Foxxes at the Camden Assembly last night. My advice is don't go to this venue. We arrived just as the band came on, climbed the stairs and ended up on the top stair in a short corridor leading to the main area, unable to see the stage at all. Tickets were still on sale for the gig yesterday, but the venue was either vastly overbooked, or someone took a backhander on the door. It was, to be frank, dangerously packed. We left after five minutes and went to the pub; I still haven't seen Black Foxxes!

Sounds like a similar experience to when I saw Declan Welsh there a while back. It's a very small venue and it was insanely busy. Literally couldn't move. It's also like a sauna.
Comments
- Soft play, Village Underground. Small gig for them, will be sweaty
- Wombats, Earth hackney. New album launch(ish) gig
Managed to get pulp tickets at o2 for June also. Really looking forward to seeing them inside an venue for the first time (always outdoors before)
Soft play, despite the name change, still one of the best live bands on the circuit, even if I am too old for this shit.....

Not in any hurry to go back there TBH.
A few years ago I thought I’d not heard much from them for years.
I searched on google and they disbanded in 2011.
