Millwall on the move?

  • Where's the incinerator in that artist's impression?
Or is that going ? (Can't see that happening TBH)
  • Bumping an old thread rather than starting a new one..... .
I like the look of the stadium and it looks like the entire area for miles around is having a makeover. No more huge rubbish incinerator or train tracks or industrial units and it looks like they have swept and washed the place.
But as a Charlton supporter I do like the architecture and the nod to the past in the way it includes railway arches.
  • Looks like it is a new front with the old stands behind it from that picture, although the article suggests expanding the stadium.

Any expansion would only be needed for the away end so maybe feasible.

Typical Addick thinking of them as railway arches! I see it as a nod to the colosseum where gladiators fought lions!
i also see the bars on the windows as a nod to Belmarsh 😂
A nod to the Colosseum would be abandoned ruins where “sport” has long since gone.
I think if the go with a makeover it will be scaled back somewhat from the fantasy pictures, probably build crap housing  for maximum profit just clad the original fronts in feather edge to give it a back yard shed feel.
  • Half a mo, where has the car park and the community centre gone? I thought these were the two main objections to the original plans.

    Snouts in the trough?
  • Let them have as many new stadiums as they can pay for. No problem.
The issue for both Millwall and West Ham is both left atmospheric and authentic original grounds, and they will never get that impassioned feeling back again.
My advice to Millwall when designing their new ground is to employ an acoustics expert.
If it is the third one by the way will it be named after dramatic film music # den den deeeennnn # ?
  • Is it a new ground, or are they just rolling the old turd in glitter?

The anger in this thread is both comical and a fascinating insight into the minds of some.

I'm easy either way. It's really not worth the vein popping.
Genuine question BBW, PWR,  club initiative or lewisham council?
Who and what is PWR, before I get a whoosh? :)
    Poorly written rubbish
  • This is a joint venture between Berylson and Nimer. It’s obvious that’s why Duchatelet has been left holding The Valley. It’s us on the move as well as Millwall. The new stadium will take its name from both clubs heritage. ‘The’ from Millwall and ‘Valley’ from Charlton. The New Valley. The reason that it’s possible is that it’s not being constructed in Deptford but on the peninsular. Will be announced when Tahnoon Nimer informs the fans of ESI’s two year plan and five year plan. The stadium like The Allianz in Munich will be coloured red on Charlton match days and adjustable in hue to whatever shade of blue Millwall are wearing at that time. Likewise the Millwall crest. Will be a wrench for both clubs but you cannot stand in the way of progress. A 60k stadium will be essential for Charlton in The Champions League and Premiership and opening half a lower tier stand for Millwall games will be straightforward. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Hi. Could you quote some of the anger please. I've had a look but can't find any.

My Millwall mate says it's the location of the train station that Millwall fans are most excited about.

Away fans will have to walk the length of the ground, so no "Coward's Way" available.

He also suggests a groundshare on the cards while they do the work, possibly at The Valley.

Great plan from SHG and dare I say a bit of a scoop?

One thing they do need to get right, is plenty of parking/storage for redundant Police vehicles/riot shields when Charlton are at home in the Premiership/Champions League that can be easily got at in a quarter open stadium, when two toothless 50 year old Spanners are bashing the shit out of each other whilst Millwall are losing to Carshalton Athletic in the 2nd division.

    Certainly.

You got me. Steam was coming out of my ears as I typed.

    They can f*ck right off.

Champion Hill will do them - although a ground share at the Dildo Stadium would be interesting.

Me and you (you and I, for the cultured), Charlton House, tomorrow, midday, I'll bring a musket.
  • That's behind a paywall Covered, at least it is on my PC. Can't read a word of it.
  • CBA with those links. Who won the rights to build properties, their owner or Lewisham council? Either way shock horror the ground is O.K. and there's no relocation to Kent.
  • That story was written before the meeting at Lewisham, but yes, it was unanimously approved a couple of weeks ago.

I don't think any reporter actually sat through the meeting to cover it, which is dire even by SE London local journalism standards.

The planning papers/webcast are all here if anyone's really keen/bored (the doc "SDC Presentation" give you a basic overview) https://councilmeetings.lewisham.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=194&MId=6565

A developer called Renewal (controversial because of links to a former Lewisham Council leader) was given planning approval: http://www.newbermondsey.com

It's a bit like Greenwich Peninsula where the council isn't directly building anything, but would very much like it to happen.
  • That development looks horrific.
