What you have to accept is that refs will miss things. But what I don't accept is them inventing something that didn't happen. You can't miss something that didn't happen and you can't say 'I'm sorry I didn't see it'. Didn't see what? Refs know they can't give a decision they havent seen, but how do you see something that hasn't happened. I think it stinks! Inventing things is a form of cheating.
Think, they didn't want pelters from the spanners in the JS.
To be honest next he referees hope he sustains a serious ACL knee injury or a broken leg resulting in him being in total agony. That would be a good punishment for all his cheating against us yester and in the past. He deserves it.
That decision is a fucking disgrace. Archer clearly thought Bauer was going to raise his leg to obstruct the kick, but it never happened. Every Charlton player could clearly see what had happened and they celebrated accordingly. Stroud should be brought to book for that - he is 6 yards away with an unimpeded view.

This. In spades.
Is there any sanction on referees for blatantly inventing decisions? They get held down a division for a while and offered extra training when they fail to red card someone for 'last man' type "professional" fouls, but is there any provision for the system to acknowledge when game changing choices like that one are perpetrated? Do team managers still get to score the officials? Has there ever been any mileage in managers giving refs zero? Or was that always just counter productive?
Apologists for Stroud will regurgitate familiar guff about 'humans make mistakes, yawn yawn' but this wasn't a mistake. At the most generous interpretation, Stroud was baffled by Archer not kicking the ball away, he wasn't alone. But that's all that happened: Archer shaped to drop kick the ball and got no further than dropping it. Neither he nor the ball was touched by anybody to cause him to not complete the kick. There is no scope in the scenario for Stroud to make a mistake, there is nothing to misinterpret, ergo: he made something up and that can't be justified, excused or mitigated in any way. There are only 2 credible explanations: 1) Stroud is wholly unequipped to referee football matches or 2) He cheated
As the smallest of the 'lesser' sides in the PL we got used to being on the receiving end of bad decisions from referees apparently dazzled by the stature of the glamour teams and their big beast managers. Graham Poll v Fulham; a match handed to Everton by I can't remember who in 1999; Shearer bouncing off someone half his size to win preposterous free kicks at The Valley; to name but 3. But this one stands alone as the basest malfeasance perpetrated (by match officials) to which we have been subjected in my quarter century of Addicktion. Stroud is currently number 2 in a short list of despicable organisms currently associated with Charlton Athletic.
The decision to yellow Gregory for the foul on Rudd was just as bad in my view. Or maybe worse. He recognised it was a foul as he gavery a yellow. But the rules state that if it's a foul it's a red. Keeper standing up ball in hands deliberate sticking out of the foot to trip him (I just watched it again!). Should have been again straight red!

I just cant accept why Referees cant come out after matches to explain decisions - Even if they do it through the Managers with Robinson coming out saying: I've spoken to the Referee who has explained he didnt give the goal because he thought Archer was impeded, upon reviewing the footage he's admitted to me that he got the decision wrong and has apologised for that fact!!
I don't want to hear supposed apologies from referees in these situations, I only want to hear that they've resigned citing their inadequacy, which would show they had an atom or two of decency; or that the panel has sacked them, which would indicate that the refs panel is configured for the good of the game; not the interests of its employees. I'm not holding my breath for either.

Couldn't agree more. There would be a lot more respect for the officials if this was the case. I'm a ref and I will always speak to the players and managers to explain any decisions they disagree with.
It makes me laugh when premier league managers moan about the quality of the referee. I would like to see their reaction to some of the referees in league one
Stroud was ACTUALLY a Premier League Referee 2007-10!!

A bit harsh. Everyone in football makes mistakes. Should they have to resign or be sacked too? Stroud's mistake yesterday was to second guess what happened. Having to try to explain that away would show him up as the fool he most certainly is.

Rude
Just because I'm a student doesn't mean I'm always pissed...
I'm actually supposed to be writing an essay in environmental policy but I can't be arsed so I'm procrastinating on here...

he cost us a win against them. THEM!! for that he should resign and apologise personally to every Charlton fan and expect a slap from each while he's doing it. (slap is optional of course)

I thought it was a disgarceful challenge - it wasn't a 50/50 or even a 60/40. There was no excuse and it was dangerous - of course it was a straight red!

But he didn't have to second guess. The clips show he was looking straight at the (non) incident, with an unimpeded view.
Appalling decision - nothing wrong with the goal. Even though there are a couple of red shirts in offside positions in no way can it be said they were interfering with play. Would love to see the assessor's report on his performance. The least he can do is offer an explanation, but I won't hold my breath!!

When does kicking out become violent conduct? Looked to me like Rudd gathered the ball in his hands, then Gregory deliberately kicked him in the ankle. Straight red in most peoples eyes I would have thought.

It doesn't even need to be violent conduct. The rule is if the ball is in his hands and you foul him you are off. That's it. No question. The ref called it a foul (obvious) but bent the rules to not give him a red (outrageous).

Couple of good interceptions, a great tackle on Konsa who he marked out of the game. Stopped that driving run of Konsa's with very good shimmying technique.

This truly the land of opportunity for all. I thought clubs used to have a limited opportunity to object to certain referees handling their games in future - surely Stroud must be now given that honour. If he ever comes back to the Valley a certain amount of ridicule will be guaranteed.
