Terrible! Not really sure where we go from here. Some change is obviously needed but with no 4 day cricket now for a few weeks there is little chance for those outside the current squad to keep in the groove.
It has got nothing to do with Root being installed as Captain. We have lost, I think, seven tests out of the last ten. We throw our wickets away too easily. We need more grit and stick ability. That was a pathetic capitulation. Let us not try to dress it up. It is all very well to say that we are playing a more positive brand of cricket but it is not working in Tests. Perhaps the Management need to be changed.
It's the way we lost that's got everyone fuming. 2 days to survive, and we barely lasted half a day
Exactly.
The pundits all said batting conditions today were good. We should have been capable of batting the day out at least even if we were to lose eventually tomorrow.

Absolutely dream conditions for batting today! Terrible collapse.
I fall asleep on the sofa after an early start to catch a flight, at the time we were 4 down. I wake up and I'm getting g post match analysis! What happened?
gutless, feckless, witless, utterly shameful dereliction of duty by just about all of them with bat in hand. Two or three across 2 innings got wicket taking balls, the rest of it was absent technique (Jennings, Ballance) and selfish fuckwittery. Bar Jimmy, they all ought to be made to publicly explain their transgressions, any insulting crap about "it's the way I play, I went out to play my natural game" to be dealt with by a week in the pillory wearing signs over their groins marked "Kick Me" and refunds payable to all who attended this calumny out of the players' fees. wasters
England don't really have the obdurate, bloody-minded type of players who can bat for two days to save a test. They get all itchy and nervous if they're not scoring. It's like T20 has turned them into ADHD patients.

You're being far too soft on these pitiful embarrassments to their country. I'd force each of them to cough up a first born child to act as a guarantor of future performances. Perhaps we can also organise a GOT style shame march between Trent Bridge and Lords.
Stoneman fits that bill. I think you'll find that one of Jennings or Ballance will remain in the team - more likely Ballance because of the Yorkie connection, and that Stoneman will come in to open with Cook. The next Test is at The Oval (i think) , so it will be Stonemans home ground. Out will go Dawson too.

Pathetic!
I think it would work if we had some experience around him, but Cook doesn't seem as though he has been particularly helpful, nor Anderson or Broad.
Jennings, Ballance & Dawson need to be dropped without doubt, they are not good enough.
Hamed, Rashid plus another batsman.
For once I wish I had been wrong.

We don't seem to have any batsmen who show any level of consistency,,other than to constantly collapse.Root.being the exception.
