  • Jennings succumbed yet again to his fundamental lack of technique, no foot movement whatsoever, just 352 runs in 17 digs in all 1st class cricket this summer 128 of which was against Sth Africa 'A', leave out that match and his current average is under 15! If he can't pick length and move his feet accordingly he should never be picked, if he's in a bad trot he'll need time in the middle away from the scrutiny of tests and the decent (not exceptional) examination of the Proteas seam bowlers. Can he really be the 2nd best English qualified opening batsman in the land? Same old, same old from England selection, harder to get out of the team than it is to get in. Dawson's swift deselection the exception to prove the rule.
  • I thought Westley looked promising. He seems to have a good temperament. He got out to a decent delivery.

Yes and Cook and Root are looking absolute shite and probably won't last much longer, iykwim

    Root c de Kock b Philander 29

    113-3 Excellent bowling.

NB the above cunning plan didn't seem to work.

I decided it was time for me to stop commenting on how our batsmen are doing when Ballance was out 1st Test about 15 minutes after I said he would have the summer of his life and be the top run scorer in the Ashes.
  • 4 down
  • Another collapse looks in the offing!
  • And there goes my last hope that he might turn out for us again. Gutted, absolutely gutted. Such a loyal and committed cricketer, unlike so many money chasing mercenaries out there who change their national and team allegiancies at the drop of a helmet, deserves so much more. </ <blockquote class="UserQuote">

I make it 9 bowling options in this side. A far cry from when Trott was our 5th bowler. He would be 10th bowler in this side.

Broad Anderson TRJ Stokes and Ali as the main bowlers.

Malan and Westley are both fairly regular part time spinners in the county game.

Root has proven to have the golden arm at times for England.

Jennings bowls useful seamers. He's been used as 5th bowler at lot for Durham and has even played t20 as a bowler before.

Cook had a test wicket so that's all bar the keeper
  • The yorker by Rabada that bowled Malan was teriffic.
  • Frustrating weather, the rain has passed but there's a lot of water to drain from the outfield

For your sake I hope they clear it quickly, but the forecast is for more rain http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/se11.

If you are unlucky enough to not see any more cricket, you can console yourself with the fact, I'd like to see England batting tomorrow with only 4 down at the start.
  • Good news. Play due to restart at 5.30.
  • Philander has been bowling so well in this spell. Have lost count of thr number of times he's beaten Ben Stokes' edge

    Bowled beautifully today.
Luckily we probably wont see him or Morkel or Steyn in Tests on this shore again after this series.
  • Good luck to everyone going tomorrow, should be a fascinating days cricket.

Meeting at 9am in the Beehive next to the ground, for a full English and 2 pints of Guinness.

until around 4pm when the heaven will open & no more play.

What I can't understand is that they only got in 60 overs today & so they will try to make up the lost overs by playing an extra 30 mins over the next 4 days - but we know its going to rain by late afternoon tomorrow so that's a waste of time then - but its going to be dry in the morning so why not start at 10.30 instead of 11 ? Ok, some people may not be able to get there early (but its only 30 mins after all) or may not know there's an earlier start, but if the ECB in conjunction with SKY made announcements this evening before play ended and during the highlights this evening then I'm sure most fans would be able to get there in time..........and don't start about the ball swinging due to early morning conditions - its only 30 mins ffs.

It DOES make a difference though (30 mins earlier) - and that's why we play on AFTER the game in Northern hemisphere whereas elsewhere plays extra before the start of play.
Anybody who remembers some of the mismatches on the Cup finals when they started early when whoever won the toss basically won the match because they just put the other team in and had them 3 or 4 down by 30 minutes.
  • Cook our LBW for 88 (bit unlucky)

A real test for the middle order now
  • Apparently Michael Holding suggesting that anything over 300 is a good score on this wicket.

  • Currently 226-5
  • Great change up from Stokes and Bairstow in the last few overs.

  • Shame for Cook, stumps couldn't have come at a worse time for him.

    Still a good knock, nevertheless.

    They look unstoppable ;-)
  • Been impressed with Stokes's attitude, hung in there yesterday when conditions were really tough, so that he could cash in today when conditions were easier
  • 269 for 6 at lunch.
Could of been a lot worse.
  • This is pretty funny watching right now. The saffers have spent ages trying to get Stokes off strike. They get TRJ on strike and he's got 21 from 19! Including a 6 off Morris.

    They've seriously underestimated him.
  • Roland Jones is protecting Stokes from the new(ish) ball.
  • They're really slowing the over rate right now and it's incredibly frustrating. Philander is off the pitch so they are doing it deliberately to avoid having to bowl their 5th and 6th bowler too much.

In my eyes it's cheating. The only way to stop it is to have run penalties at the end of every day/innings.
