The first of a double header yesterday saw @shirty5 and myself witness Cove lose 3-1 at home to Wallingford in the Combined Counties League. Roughly 50 fans witnessed a niggly first half end up with very ugly scenes with players of both sides ending up in a free for all. Amazingly only one player was sent off. Fortunately all died down and it was left to see the Cove goalkeeper have a fantastic game throwing himself at everything, otherwise Cove could have conceded 6 or 7.
Onto the afternoon's entertainment Walton and Hersham ran out easy 4-1 winners against Fleet, Walton are now promoted from the Combined Counties Premier Division South. Walton's Centre forward Jordan Adeyemi is a class act. Steve Gallen, go and watch him.
'Sports Hub', not sure how I feel about that. It looks very swish, a bit like the Aveley shots I posted a couple of months ago, and I'm sure with semi-synthetic pitches and massive ground rents that sort of ground sharing model is the way to go, but I do prefer the ramshackle nature of grounds that have slowly developed (and in some cases decayed) over may decades.

Yes I agree - a few years ago I went to watch a game at Stamford FC in Lincolnshire - modern ground with sports facilities attached - felt soulless - no character - I think one of the only modern non league grounds that has managed to pull off some semblance of ‘character’ is Dartford

Go to Sawbridgeworth, "ramshackle" is very appropriate. I much preferred Cove, Walton was too plastic and soulless.
Canvey Island 3 Felixstowe & Walton United 1 Isthmian North Division Playoff Semi-Final, Attendance 1,059
Canvey now face Brentwood in the Play-off Final on Friday.
*One for the train spotters, British Rail sign on the Canvey flag. Ironic really as there are no trains on the island. Though there is a 'Station Road' in memory of the old monorail.

Ticked this pre-season with us in the late 90's early 2000's.
I saw the mighty Elfsborg play Djurgården on Monday night. Not the best of games, the Stockholm side bringing around 1,000 which is fantastic by Sweden standards, Elfsborg would have had a maximum of 75 for the reverse journey, should have won.
I bought tickets this morning for the Spain/Germany women’s game at Brentford for the Euros.
I am currently on 99 grounds, and would like the 100th to be a special one. Will find out this week if I’ve been successful in the ballot for Germany vs England at the Bayern Munich arena.
If that fails, then I’m thinking of doing a trip to Stockholm for Sweden vs Norway.

Nice Fila top there Elfs - jeans could do with some alteration length wise however 😃

When I saw the great man earlier he said I was well kitted out, although a little short.

Mathias !!!
Loved him playing for us - not a goal machine - but he put a shift in EVERY single match for every minute he played

Matt Svensson finally got to meet his hero Les Dennis.

When he asked you if you liked his clobber did you reply “well I don’t really know Rita”?
I went to Brentford's new stadium last night for Germany Women 4-0 Denmark - my 200th ground. It most reminds me of The Amex when it was smaller, similar roofs, concourses and they can change the lighting colour for some reason. I don't know what pubs are like as the station is 100 yards from the ground. This is the view from the away corner:
Then went to Margate 4-2 Glebe today, good time of year to use groundhopping as an excuse for some motorbike miles.
Kings Langley v Mickleover Sports in the Southern League Premier Central yesterday, a cracking game finished 2-2 but could easily finished with more goals.
Beaconsfield v Plymouth Parkway saw a 3-1 home win in the Southern League Premier South. A cracking little ground, cheap admission with a free programme, teamsheets being given out. A very well run club. Plymouth brought around 30, an incredible turnout given they had to travel 200+ miles.
Saturday was an historic day for Basildon Town as they played in their first ever FA Vase match. 1st Qualifying round away at Brantham Athletic. Two coaches travelled up the A12 and were rewarded with a 2-1 victory and a home tie against Clacton in the next round. I am not sure the Brantham locals quite knew what hit them as the Basildon Town crowd fuelled by lots of pre-match entertainment did not stop signing the whole 90 minutes.

Looks a pleasant little ground.
I have a mate who follows Basildon Town, they normally get about 20, so to take two coaches was a great effort.

Felixstowe and Walton v Bury Town yesterday in the Isthmian North finished 1-0 to the home side in front of a very healthy 500 plus attendance.

There are 3 group games there but it didn't let me select seats, so it might only be solo ones left.
