In my opinion, these were exceptional circumstances and I believe that I/we had to make a stand against a man that was destroying everything that this club stands for. It stopped being the Charlton that I love and therefore I stopped going because I couldn’t support what this regime was doing. No one knows what will come next, but the day he goes I will get season tickets again for myself and my son, as I know various family and friends will also do. Or you could look at Blackpool. Different fan bases have different opinions and circumstances.
I get the view that you watch your team no matter what - but when there are bad owners ruining clubs (not just us) not everyone feels that way. They think it's more important to do whatever they can that might help move their owner closer to selling.
Having different opinions isn't a bad thing. If everyone just got behind the team he may have stayed on and continued doing things his way. Without pressure from the fan base it's likely it would have taken longer for him to appoint more suitable managers and stop sacking them every few months.
And yet if everyone boycotted the budget would likely have been lower and we'd have a weaker squad.
Everyone needs do what they feel is right for them. Having a different opinion on attending/boycotting/protesting doesn't make someone any more or less of a fan - for some being a fan isn't only about supporting the team on the pitch.
Despite some saying they don't want the boycotters back, if things move in the right direction I think the majority will prefer seeing bigger crowds and a better atmosphere.

For the vast majority of the nearly 50 years that I have supported Charlton we haven't had great owners. We have had plenty of bad times and some good. I've supported the team through relegation to the second and third tier and not thought twice about not continuing my support. We've left The Valley and played at Shitehurst and Upton Park and I was there. What this owner has done, however, went to another level and I could not be seen to support that by paying my ticket money and turning up every other week like I had done for so many years. The only way that I could show my displeasure (other than the protests) was to refrain from attending matches. I was as disappointed as anyone on that sunny day in Sheffield, but to try to blame SCP for the outcome that day, with everything that was going on behind the scenes, is ludicrous and ignores the great job that he had done prior to Roland's arrival and, lately, under difficult circumstances.

There Is no defence for what he has done. As a boycotter I have no regrets about that decision, nor would I criticise anyone that continues to go, but trying to rationalise the behaviour of that cu@t ... !!??

I've supported the team through relegation to the second and third tier and not thought twice about not continuing my support. We've left The Valley and played at Shitehurst and Upton Park and I was there. What this owner has done, however, went to another level and I could not be seen to support that by paying my ticket money and turning up every other week like I had done for so many years. The only way that I could show my displeasure (other than the protests) was to refrain from attending matches. How could it possibly be? It's possible that some of the consortium hadn't even heard of Charlton a few years ago.
He has had a long affair with CAFC as have myself and my family but his blinkered views are not too relevant to the future generations, ie. my 12 year old boy, who has attended since he was 4 and very nearly gave up on CAFC due to the last 4 years. We really do need these children for the future.

I really haven't enjoyed my boycott, especially as my son had finally twigged that he should be a Charlton supporter instead of a Barcelona supporter.
Fortunately he still considers himself a Charlton fan and, despite being only 15 now, he understands why we are not attending.
I get the view that you watch your team no matter what - but when there are bad owners ruining clubs (not just us) not everyone feels that way. They think it's more important to do whatever they can that might help move their owner closer to selling.
Having different opinions isn't a bad thing. If everyone just got behind the team he may have stayed on and continued doing things his way. Without pressure from the fan base it's likely it would have taken longer for him to appoint more suitable managers and stop sacking them every few months.
And yet if everyone boycotted the budget would likely have been lower and we'd have a weaker squad.
Everyone needs do what they feel is right for them. Having a different opinion on attending/boycotting/protesting doesn't make someone any more or less of a fan - for some being a fan isn't only about supporting the team on the pitch.
Despite some saying they don't want the boycotters back, if things move in the right direction I think the majority will prefer seeing bigger crowds and a better atmosphere.
Hopefully we can soon move on from RD, can start rebuilding the club and repairing the split fan base.
