Just to clarify that comment, it was not a direct reference to Charlton, because I don’t want them to be in any league lower than The Championship. But, I must admit there are some attractive things for me about lower league football away from the club, and away from all the glitz, the glamour, the money and the hype of the Premier League. It is all a bit rough and ready in the lower leagues in all senses, and feels a little more how it all used to be. Whilst we all naturally aspire for the greatest possible success for our team on the pitch, football in this country now appears to me to be such a bloated, unethical mismatch of funds and opportunity, that getting the right backers does come with the threat of the poison chalice that you drink at the top table with inherent risks to the heart of any club. But I’m sure many of us will cope with that moral dilemma if we’re tonking our way up the leagues towards the Prem.

A threadbare squad decimated by injuries as we approach the busy festive period. Not a cat's chance in hell of actually paying a fee for any new players during the Jan transfer window. I've no idea if it is Saudi money but I ask because there have been big changes with the kingdom with a more liberal (that is very relative in Saudi terms) crown prince taking control and looking to change the social and economic model.
Part of that could be more investment in areas such as football to compete with Qater and the UAE who are already involved.
Why they would choose Charlton is another question but that is for a different debate.

While the Saudis are looking to diversify their economy away from its oil dependency, I'm not so sure football is a wise investment!
If Saudis are involved, don't expect any deal to get done in a hurry. In my experience, they can be really quite painful to deal with business-wise.
Yup, had experience with Arabian companies and they seem to be an arse to get last bit of payments from. The trick is to overcharge them 20% because they never pay that 20% or wait 6 months to a year to get round to doing it.
