  • It's quite depressing that Huddersfield and Wednesday got promoted with us when we won League One and they've both progressed nicely and made the playoffs this year.

    The Roland effect!
  • Proves what you can do with the right owner and the mentality that you want to get somewhere.

  • Quite an achievement for a team to be promoted with a negative goal difference - in fact they are the first to do so from any division.

Absolutely, unlike the wanker running us.
  • congratulations to the Terriers .. just shows what a few f b gs can achieve ((:>) ..
at the very least it means that one Yorkie team is in the premier .. I bet Leeds and Wednesday fans are doing some serious head banging
  • really good for them to go up and shows what can be done with a club when run properly i do think they will be a one season wonder and will be chucked in my pre season relegation bet as with those fuckers down the road.
  • Huddersfield will really struggle next season - still the cash will help.
  • at 8/13 i think its printing money on them to go down, but the money they will get should set them up for a good few years, glad they went up purely for the fact it will annoy the wednesday lot who i cant fucking stand. millwall of the north.

don't count your chickens, most people thought Bournemouth would go down, but look at them now.

if they can survive the 1st year which imo will be v tough, even poor premier league teams like palace are chucking silly money around.

Bournemouth were a much better team than Huddersfield are now, they won the Championship that season (pipping Watford who've also stayed up) with 90 points and a GD of +53 after scoring 98 goals!

As often is the case, the team that won the playoffs (Norwich) did go down
  • I find it amazing that teams that were in the fourth tier ten years ago and seemed to be perennial strugglers , like Bournemouth,Burnley,Huddersfield, Watford(maybe 20 years ago) now grace the premiership - as everyone is saying, just shows what good management and ambitious ownership can do.

Doesnt matter in Huddersfield's case now though does it... they've found the pot of gold with promotion to the top flight now - they'll probably come back down but with the parachute payments they'll only need to worry about further troubles if they're not sensible with the money.

Their Chairman though appears to be one of the very best in the Business so cant see that happening so even relegation to the Championship should see them competing in the top half of the table...

Thats the worrying factor about Crystal Palace now, even though they could get relegation they should in truth be one of the better Championship sides

A team that goes up, is sensible about not spending too much or ruining the team spirit by bringing in "disruptive big names" should do really well if relegated (e.g. us in 1999 or Burnley). The longer teams stay in the PL though, the more "corrupted" they can become, with their wage structure and payroll getting bloated with deadwood...
  • Another set of 'ultras' in the Prem for Palace to have to compete with. That aside I'm pleased for Huddersfield.
  • I'm happy for Huddersfield. They've a good young squad and have deserved it throughout the course of the season. The only team to challenge the top two and we're able to grind out wins. Wagner has done very well this season and Andy Hughes is obviously a good guy with a Charlton link.

Another youngster from our academy has gone onto better things. It's just a shame that we didn't fight to keep hold of these players (THD, Harriott etc).

Congratulations. Shows how poorly our club's run.

Slade did not want THD despite what he said publicly, not a regime issue but that of the manager.

Even if that is the case, I still see it as a regime issue, as they change managers more often then I change my pants.
  • The shit I got on here when I knew Chris Powell was a charlatan. A terrible Manager.

Well, well, well, a lesser quality Playing squad and look at what can be achieved.

Think outside the box, back your Players and dare to dream. We did and are living the dream.

Always thought you'd found your Powell in Wagner. Congratulations. Think Wagner will do well in the top tier.

And looking at Dean Hoyle and then thinking of that f***ing clown Duchâtelet - today should be a wake up call to the few Charlton fans who think we will ever progress under that tight-fisted clown.
Thanks, look we will do nothing in the Premier League but for little ol Huddersfield this is major.

I just want us to take the money and so what if (when) we cone back down.

We are a similar sized club to you. The key thing for us was having a Manager who was committed (good start) and capable
    What ambition.

It's a very odd situation in my mind.

Had we not been bought by Slater and Jiminez we might have been promoted that season. We might have finished lower. But we might also have been bought by the right owner.

Instead they spent a few bob that summer and ensured with a manager all could get behind we would be promoted. They then could not afford to keep us going and we finished a solid 9th. The debt started to rack up and we were sold to RD. (We know what happened next)

Part of me wishes we had never sold to Slater and Jiminez in the first place as we are literally now in a far worse position than before they came in.

  • Any idea if there was a promotion clause in THD transfer fee?

I agree to an extent but football, when you support a club like Charlton, is about remembering the good times. The memories from that season, the attachment I have for that group of players who I consider to be my favourite Charlton squad. The cementing of legend status for SCP the likes of Yann, Jacko and Sols becoming fan favourites. The celebration of this club winning it's third major honour. Those things mean a lot and the memories are what it's all about. Personally I would not consider sacrificing those years even if it meant no RD.

If I was a Wigan supporter looking back 10 years later, that moment of beating Man City in the Cup final would still be the highlight, even if it was followed by relegation

well done @LeedsbasedTownfan thrilled for you but enjoy the day and back off from the back your players bollocks, you know fuck all about our ownership fuck all and you have never walked in our shoes.
well done again but dont ruin it with that bullshit

Fair does, I just feel bitter about how absolutely shit Powell was and your fans questioning why we got rid.

We got rid because he was the worst Manager we have ever had.

He has better players than the ones that just for us promoted. He didn't believe though, negative, negative, negative.
Just won promotion to the Prem at Wembley and not only are you still feeling bitter about something long in the past but you felt moved enough to post on Charlton Life about it! I'd have a look at yourself bud and maybe invest in some self help books-if you can't be 100% happy on a day like today then you never will.
Still just bitter we stopped their 1000 match unbeaten run in 2011.

Off the top of my head I think Palace are the only side in the past six or seven years to have gone up via the play-offs and stayed up the following season. As you correctly state, if a side isn't good enough to finish in the top two in the Championship, it's a hell of a leap to the Premier League.
