Grace just became the first person to shoot 62 in a major. What an incredible round
don't quite get this - surely it should be the score you hit against par. Royal Birkdale is only a par 70, so he hit 8 under par. I'm sure there are loads of players in Opens who have hit a 64 on a course playing to a par of 72.
If you take it to extremes a Pro could probably hit a 58 around Barnehurst, but I don't think it would be worth shouting about
looks like Spieth has this in the bag. Only 2 players in the top 20 not under par are........Poulter & McIlroy and are dropping back as every hole goes by.
I may be in the minority but I prefer days like yesterday when its wet & windy are there are doubles & triples being scored than today when its a birdie fest. I think it was a mistake not to let the rough get up. You can be 30 yards off line & still not be in real trouble.

But surely the fact no one has ever made a 62 highlights how much more difficult it is to go 8 under on a par 70?
I think Sky are being unfair about Spieth's raw ability. He's the best putter we've seen in a while and his iron play and stats are always top notch (hence this course being "Spiethy"). He's pretty straight from the tee too, but because he doesn't murder the ball like Rory or DJ he doesn't appear as dynamic.
He's a class act as well, I've not seen a new champion spend that much time with fans before. And at only 23 (24 next week) it would take a brave or foolish person not to bet on him winning 10+ majors.
One thing about this afternoon is the players get help that us mere mortals don't. How many times have you carted your tee shot into the rough never to see it again ? These players have spotters & the crowd help find it (not in a million years would anyone have found their tee shot on 13 unless they had 100 people over there) and then they also have the crowd help stop the ball going into deep rough, bushes or gorse by hitting then or their rucksacks, handbags & packed lunch. Spieth got 2 or 3 of these lucky "bounces" and then had the temerity to get a free drop from the practice ground as there were a few TV trucks in his way - and that was after he took an unpayable lie & went back 100 yards. Yes, I know its all it the rules & legit, but he got the breaks of having the crowd there so perhaps he should have taken a greater penalty, having been 120 years offline, and dropping in an area where there is equipment.
Smashed the sweepstake at work. Given how many were in the field, I drew three names (one from each "pot", which were Most Likely/Medium Chances/Rank Outsiders), and got Spieth and Poulter (and, lol, Mark O'Meara, who quadrupled the first hole).
He made it sweaty then made me £50 with that eagle and subsequent birdie. Wooo

I make you right Golfie. Reckon if he came down to Redlibbits for the monthly medal, I'd kick his arse

Kucher must be bored waiting for them to sort this out.
