The fact that there is anything beyond a single finance clerk whose job it is to process donations into the hospital's account is what is wrong with the situation. Instead you have the self-aggrandising pompous exec on a six figure salary who made this decision, no doubt flanked by a suite of pen-pushing sycophants, the dozen other board members who are suitably renumerated for their 45 minutes a week they spend on hospital business when they are not on the golf course (5 figure part-time director's salary plus lavish expense account of course), and some 'inclusion guru' who is paid a good sum of money to ensure no one is offended and spends most of her time laminating posters dictating 27 ways of avoiding discriminatory language.
Meanwhile a 77 year old woman down the corridor from where this million pound farce is taking place is being told she will need to wait another 9 months for a hip operation due to lack of funding.
only just read this thread. Been a long time since I've read anything so ridiculous as this story. Find it quite insulting actually that a Trust would react in this way.

for what it's worth, over the past four/five years I have spent too long in hospital, about 5 weeks in total .. the nurses I have had the 'pleasure' of dealing with have been without exception professional and if not all very friendly, at the worst, VERY helpful .. now and then the prettier ones had to put up with sexist banter from a patient under the misguided notion that he is a comedian .. the nurse(s) in question took it well, brushed it off and smiled through it .. BUT I have seen that more often than not it annoyed them but they didn't rise to the bait or make an issue of it
In the Ludlow case, yes the chaps in question were in it for a good cause, but why not dress as doctors rather than go for the 'Ooooohhhhhh matron' sexy little nurses approach .. A good laugh, little harm done perhaps, but I know that a lot of nurses will be thinking along the lines 'here we go again, more caricature of a negative nature' ..

There is no sensible comparison to be made to drag queens or TV presenters, and it's not "PC gone made!". I've just asked 5 nurses who work in my office and none of them found in offensive.
Had to attend hospital this morning for a check-up and asked the attending nurse what she thought.
She just laughed and said that she felt the hospital trust had taken it out of all proportion. In her words, 'they should accept what has been done for them in a good cause'.
I wonder why some nurses find this demeaning though? Is it blokes dressed up as female nurses, or anyone who isn't a nurse dressed up as nurses?
As for lack of respect, I'd bet my life that those who do get dressed up as nurses or doctors etc. to raise money for these types of charitable causes have noth but respect for the professionals involved.

Easter eggs in the tradition of Christianity were chicken eggs painted red (to represent the blood of Christ, obvs) in Sunday School. What you're talking about is the commercialism of holidays. It's not about 'offending' other religions at all - there's no evidence of any other religions being offended. It's a commercial thing. As you concede, why would a corporation limit itself to one religion? It's not PC gone mad, by your own admission.
80m eggs are sold in the UK each year. But fewer than 28m people identify as Christian. So what's the problem in removing the religious connection? Especially if it opens up the tradition to more people?

For me, the idea that the heads of the church have any say in the governing of this country is utterly fucking insane. It's literally acceptable insanity. Muslim beliefs are as insane as Christian, Jewish or Scientology beliefs to me, and apparently to the majority in this country.
