Dartford has early morning Sunday trains to Greenwich and Blackheath too

Sunday is looking like good running conditions, not too much sun or wind at current.

Just found out I'm gonna have to defer until April. Trains seem to effect my line more than I thought, they ain't committing to a start time on Sunday and I definitely won't be able to arrive before 9am

Absolutely fucking livid and devastated at the same time
Can you not park nearish the start then Uber to as near as you can get?

I am in the same boat for the royal parks half next week.
    Don't drive unfortunately.

Thought I'd start the month challenging myself to a 5 mile run from home with a bit of a bugger of a hill in it halfway. Glad I've done it, so I won't feel too guilty sitting watching the marathon tomorrow. Hardest game in the world that.

Managed 4hr 35 mins, first time I've ever ran a full marathon so I'm chuffed with that. If anyone has a £1 or 2 spare to donate for whizzkidz , I'd be more than grateful 🙏

Well done. Great effort and a good time 👍Very envious of you as it's something I've always wanted to do, but I've convinced myself not to try now. Or have I? I see there's one running along the banks of loch Ness. No, I must stop myself thinking like that. B)

  • Well done @shine166 great effort and like...um...other things, you'll always remember your first one.

Brilliant effort @shine166. Considering it wasn't that long ago you started running, to do that in your first marathon is fantastic. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Nice one Shine166. 3 weeks after a marathon is apparently when you get a big 5k bounce, so find a nice flat Parkrun.

I ran 4hr13 at Dorney Marathon nr Windsor, flat tarmac but a bit repetitive as you run up then down the lake 8 times. Had to walk a little from 22 onwards but was a couple of minutes faster than my marathon in April.

Sister in law applies every year and never gets in so signed up for the virtual marathon. I ran with her for the last leg, we stopped for a comfort break at 20 miles. 2 miles later we realised her tracker app hadn’t resumed properly. So she ended up having to do over 28 miles 🙈 Thank god she realised then and not any later.

@Fanny Fanackapan and any others interested, my friend Annabel is a big Charlton fan and friends with the Jay’s. She ran today in memory of Ben

    Thanks, AFKA,

I only learned about this from Ben's Mum, Sharon, via FB today.

Wish we'd have known in advance as I'm sure quite a few Lifers would have supported her.

Cheers all, such a good day. Nearly went to shit at mile 2 when I couldn't connect my earbuds to my phone. Could have been a long day with no music, but luckily the atmosphere was great.

Cheers dude, yeah may 2021 I started. Was weird looking at the splits yesterday and every single KM being quicker than I could do a single one just 12 months ago !. I think in another year I could make it a sub 4hour marathon.

Did my last long run prior to the royal parks HAlf at the weekend. Just under 11.5 miles.

My eldest told me this morning at breakfast before we left London that your first marathon is obviously a personal best - and the challenge is to set a new pb in each subsequent one (if you can take the pain again!).

He did it in 4hr 34m yesterday and has now got the bug! An absolutely fantastic weekend (apart from The Valley on Saturday). We saw him at The Rose of Denmark, Canary Wharf and at The Mall and once again the best of the human condition was evident throughout the course - both runners and spectators suspending 'me' and doing something for 'others' selflessly. It does restore faith in humanity to witness it up close.

He beat me by 1 min !. Its a proper buzz, I can see how it gets quite addictive.. although doing a local half with 100 other runners will never feel the same again lol. The crowd were incredible, such amazing support.. actually got quite eery running through the tunnel when all you could here was feet stomping!.

He said the tunnel was tough - alone with thoughts (and doubts). He also said the last 5k was brutal.

Yeah I was pretty much finished at mile 21, the saying about the first 20 miles.. being a warm up for a 10km race , is bang on.

that tunnel's useful as it's the only place on the route you can be sick without spectators seeing

    Fantastic first marathon.
  • Mrs oohaah , doing her 5th marathon,  hit her target of doing it under 4 hrs , 3.58.49, ten days before her 40th, she stuck rigidly with a 4 hour pace maker, said she see a fella with a Charlton tattoo on his calf but couldn’t speak keeping up with that pace .
For the sake of the family and her own sanity it was a must she hit the target , think she was 4.05 last proper time and had done it with her mum previously in 5hrs 30ish .
she walked to Bank afterwards the nutter .
The boys chose to play footy/watch Grand Prix rather than go watch, so I was ferrying them around whilst glued to the app which is brilliant but stuck a couple of times for dramatic effect to make me think she’d stalled .
