  • She gets cabin fever after ten mins indoors funnily enough and goes for long runs to avoid us (me and 4 boys , too many to keep up with )
  • Mrs oohaah , doing her 5th marathon,  hit her target of doing it under 4 hrs , 3.58.49, ten days before her 40th, she stuck rigidly with a 4 hour pace maker, said she see a fella with a Charlton tattoo on his calf but couldn’t speak keeping up with that pace .
For the sake of the family and her own sanity it was a must she hit the target , think she was 4.05 last proper time and had done it with her mum previously in 5hrs 30ish .
she walked to Bank afterwards the nutter .
The boys chose to play footy/watch Grand Prix rather than go watch, so I was ferrying them around whilst glued to the app which is brilliant but stuck a couple of times for dramatic effect to make me think she’d stalled .
I passed a bloke, possibly the same, with the Sword tatt on his calf, going through the scummy bit of south London. I gave him a 'go on Charlton' as I passed, hopefully it gave him a little boost.
  • I did the Curly Wurly Parkrun today (aka Somerdale Pavilion) great fun and a lot less confusing than it’s seems. My best 5K time for a long while.
  • Did the Ally Pally one today. First time for a while. 24.16. Those hills seems to steeper every time….

You need to try that one in winter. The muddy hill claims a lot of victims

@Leaburns_Dead_Leg is that your local parkrun? I run that sometimes, agreed not as confusing (or as nauseating!) as you'd think
  • My local one is Bushy Park, quite a trip out for somerdale, just over 2 hour drive.
  • I went for a PB at Victoria Dock, was never on though. It is a fast course in a nice setting so worth a quick DLR from Woolwich or Elizabeth Line from Abbey Wood. Sutcliffe near Kidbrooke is still the fastest PR I've found.

For those coming from North Greenwich, the cable car is free before 10.30am if you show your parkrun barcode.
  • Smashed my PB (set at Victoria Dock four years ago) at Donaupark in Vienna yesterday -  30.04.

I'm now on my way home and preparing to go sub-30 expecting to return to my normal 34/35 minute pace next weekend! We'll see!
  • I’m in NY for work for the next couple of weeks, was gonna take my barcode as I assumed there would be one around Central Park which would’ve been cool but looking it up and there’s none that are of a reasonable commute from Manhattan which is a bit damp squib. Harumph

I chose to run without having any breakfast and to leave my phone at home in setting a new PB 40 seconds better than last weeks time.

Since running my first half marathon I have barely run compared to before running it but my 5k times have improved massively. I had plateaued during the summer
  • Unfortunately my running/park run days have come to a shuddering halt, never to be resumed, after finding out last week that I need to have both my hips replaced..  I thought it hurt quite a lot to run (as well as walk and cycle)..the consultant was amazed that I'd been doing it... Am gutted as have loved getting into it. Apparently I need to take up swimming now.

Course PB at Charlton yesterday - 31:35, my third-fastest ever. I'll have that. And kudos to whoever ran there yesterday wearing one of the protest shirts.

Oh no! Hopefully you are near a good pool/lido. If you're within reach of Charlton Lido they do good swim doctor sessions there.

Discovered this weekend that the reason there's no parkrun in New York City is partly down to New York Road Runners having their own very similar events, most of which are also on Saturday mornings but there are others during the week:  https://www.nyrr.org/openrun

Otherwise your nearest is out in deepest New Jersey, a 7am train and $25 taxi away! https://www.parkrun.us/delawareandraritancanal/course/

That was me ! The shirt has found its place at last. Sorry I didn't see you
  • Anyone get in for London 2023 ? Got my rejection mail today, won't be going for a charity place again as its been a rule slog in the current financial climate and am still 25% off of my target with only 10 days until they stop the fund raising for this year's event. 2024 il probably do it again, but it's a lot so soon. Congrats to those that were successful 👏

9th rejection in a row for me but see some not getting a place after 13 or 14 consecutive attempts. The ballot definitely needs looking at as seen some people getting places 2 years running. No idea how they'd manage that though. I did it for charity 2 years ago so like you find the fundraising a bigger headache than the training. Only thing is Great Ormond Street is their charity of the year for 2023 and one very close to my heart so I am tempted to try and get a place with them.
  • Got rejected again. No inclination to use a charity place as feel I am using others to pay for me to do something I want to do.
  • As above, another rejection and not overly comfortable with the charity place route. Will reassess next year. Sister in law has similarly had no luck in 13 attempts.

Yeah I struggled with the pushing of mine. Most of the funds I raised were from % of sales of screenprints of my work, certainly wouldn't want to do it year after year and with only 6 months between events this time round, it was ballot or nothing. I'm doing LLHM in April, so il still have an excuse to run over the winter as I'm gonna go for a sub 2 hour time
